ThunderBolt: Over the past few months, several happenings in the gaming community have caused the issue of sexism and misogyny to become focal points not so easily ignored. There were three catalysts to this: the reaction to the Hitman: Absolution Saints trailer, the funding of Anita Sarkeesian’s “Tropes vs. Women in Videogames” Kickstarter project, and what direction Crystal Dynamics is going with their series reboot, Tomb Raider.
Tomb Raider I, II, III Remastered is available now on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Lara Croft is back in a classic remaster of the original PlayStation 1 hit title. Is the remaster any good though?
We've gone on many adventures with Lara Croft. With another reboot in the making, Wealth of Geeks felt it was a good time to go down the nostalgia rabbit hole and remember the best of those tomb-raiding thrills.
For me, Legend should be alot higher (along with the other two ). Shadow, I enjoyed it, but has too much has fluff, as modern games tend to do. Playing the remastered series, and apart from the controls, is very good.
I really enjoyed the first 2 games, Legend and the first of the reboots and the rest I didn’t get into so I never finished.
Completely subjective list. I really liked Underworld, I preferred Lara's design. That said I loved the horror/uncharted feel of the reboot. I think all the TR games have strengths and weaknesses. None are objectively better in every way.
Like the film or television industry, the world of gaming has seen its fair share of reboots over the years. While some of these video game reboots have had
It seems now-a-days, people arguing misogyny in gaming don't really understand what it means. Agent 47 was not wearing a badge that says "Kitchen Hussie Slapper" on his person. Meaning? He didn't kill them simply because they were women. Misogyny is hate, dislike or mistrust of women. He killed them because they were trying to kill HIM. What? He should not defend himself because they were women?
"Lara Croft is literally the poster child for strong, capable, independent women in games. As was Samus Aran, who also had much of her prestige and power taken away in Metroid: Other M."
Metroid manga, read it. Samus has posttraumatic stress disorder. Naturally she would show symptoms as soon as her voice actor starts to speak. Let's not forget, she did not talk much in her old metroid games. But as expected, women not speaking = overwhelmingly bad@ss/strong.
"What seemed like harmless fun was called out as glamorizing violence against women, and it’s hard to argue against that assessment as the trailer slows down and lingers on all the gory details. The standout scene for me was where Agent 47 breaks the one nun’s nose in slo-mo so we can admire it."
And here is where it gets juicy.
So what you're saying is :
1) Women should not be in violent video games. Because let's face it, if they are, then they might get hurt. And we can't have violence againt women in video games. But of course, we can have Lara Croft (in the old TR games) shoot god knows how many men.
2) They did not show those violent slow downed scenes againt the Saints so we can admire violence against women. There are always slow-down scene in violent video games, not just when it's happening to women.

And to be honest, it looks like the Saints were kicking more @ss than the guys were in this video.
Unfortunatly, articles like this will continue to be made, despite using buzz-words like "sexism" and "misogyny" and despite ignoring the obvious hypocrisy and their points/arguments.
It's all good when men are killed in video games, but when women are killed in video games, they were killed because of their sex. It's time to take the battery-starved sexist-detection goggles off, people.
A better example of hypocrisy on this issue.
