Although Papo & Yo offers an emotive expedition with a stirring storyline, the game’s puzzling fails to match the ambition of its gripping plot.
I don't get how a game about a boy with an abusive, drunk dad can be fun.
I think the puzzles are supposed to be be the "fun" part. Sadly they don't sound all that great.
That is only what the game represents. The game isn't about a boy with an abusive, drunk dad. It a symbol of it. There is more to the game then that. You talk as if you play the drunken dad and the goal is to beat the boy or something.People play dozens of games where you murder, main, destroy and rip people to shreds all the time. So how do you have fun doing that? But somehow people do. @ madmad. It actually is pretty fun. The puzzles aren't the hardest in the world or anything but they are fun to solve none the less.
I like probably 20% of the puzzles. To each their own. They are pretty simple for the most part.
I think what he's say is because the topic is pretty depressing, it would be hard to make an "enjoyable" game out of it. Just like it's hard to make a movie about a messed up family that's fun to watch (Maybe Royal Tenenbaums, but that wasn't really fun or funny...)
Guessing you never saw the game "The Binding of Isaac" ... "When Isaac’s mother starts hearing the voice of God demanding a sacrifice be made to prove her faith, Isaac escapes into the basement facing droves of deranged enemies, lost brothers and sisters, his fears, and eventually his mother. The Binding of Isaac is a randomly generated action RPG shooter with heavy Rogue-like elements. " His own mother tries to sacrifice him to God... Yet the rest of it is pretty fun. http://store.steampowered.c...
I disagree. People play games about the end of the world, fighting zombies that used to be people, dealing with horrible crippling disadvantages, living in broken cities, fighting wars where you buddies are being killed, watching people being tortured and murdered. Why do people have no problem fighting wars where millions are killed or fighting zombies that used to be innocent people or living in a messed up apocalyptic world but get depressed because the guy is using symbolism to portray his personal life? Abusive fathers and violence towards children make you depressed but people giggle and grin with glee as you kill soldiers, chop up zombies that used to be people and revel in the fact that you are playing in an apocalyptic world where half the population is dead and the world is a gigantic wasteland or killing people in inventive horrible ways. No one finds that hard to enjoy but this is a problem. Do you see how messed up that is? I supposed I would be better if the boy was going on a rampage with a gun shooting people using the monster to eat people. I suppose that would be more acceptable?
So much hate for this game. This game is amazing and delivers a deep message. Puzzles are easy sure but it's rare to find a puzzle game that actually has hard puzzles.
Agreed. Pointless to argue with uninformed and ignorant people that have not played it. It is a fun game
one of the best psn games i have played. im glad i bought it
I don't have a problem with the puzzles being too easy. They're just too repetitive.
this game has some magic :) btw reviewers i think are to technical about this game.
I think I need to play this.
I agree... I think you should. I also think the score is fair. Papo & Yo is an indi game, and faces some technical issues. On top of that, many things in the game which you'd think would me dynamic (plants, boards on the ground, etc) cut right through your character as you walk through them like they're not even there, taking away from the realism of the world. The game seems to hold your hand pointing you in a direct path, not really wanting you to deviate or explore, which would be great considering the world is really cool. Assets like buildings will have roof line protruding from the middle of them, like they were just stacked from a 1 story model. I'm not cutting on the game, I'm just saying that as fun as it may be to play, it is not a 9 or a 10. It's not a turd either. If you like Ico, I highly recommend playing Papo & Yo. Just don't expect it to be AAA quality. It is a good indi game with some noticeable visual, technical and gameplay issues. I see too many posts where people are defensive because they like the game. It's okay to like something, but be honestly critical at the same time. EDIT: Oh, and if you want it to be more challenging, don't use any of the hint boxes. You also get a trophy for beating it without using the hint boxes.
