This article's results were padded by sales; like that makes an exclusive good or not. They make it look like the PS3 and 360 are neck and neck in terms of exclusives.

"When it is all said and done it looks pretty even." My @ss it does.

360 won:
* "Had most exclusives in the year" (padded by Kinect, Arcade, and 30-40% rated games)
* "Had the highest total exclusive sales in the year" (sales #s)
* "Had the bestselling game in the year" (sales #s)
* "Had the highest top 10 sales average in the year" (sales #s)

PS3 won:
* "Had the best game in the year" (quality)
* "Had the highest overall critic rating average in the year" (quality)
* "Had the highest overall sales average in the year (sales #s)
* "Had the highest top 10 critic rating average in the year" (quality)

So PS3 won all quality categories and a sales category.

360 only won 3 sales categories and the 'most exclusives' category padded by poor games and multiplats (PC/360 or other combo; not 'True Exclusives').

I just checked out http://factsvsfanboys.com/ and that site it so biased toward the PS3 its funny.

That site does everything it can to exclude top 360 games for reasons like "well Live Arcade games are basically HD PS1 games" but they include PS2 HD remakes in the list. It makes me LMAO that someone would buy that domain and take the time to keep it running just to spew their "anti 360" propaganda.

It's interesting that they fail this article when this guy seeemed to do alot of work..

We have seen plenty Metacric articles, sales articles, and a billion flamebait exclusives articles on N4G.com that make it through with flying colors with some of the laziest research ever.

Many of them are flamebait from the title to what's beyond. But, THIS particuliar one failing is interesting indeed.

It's literally the combination of VG chartz and Metacritic..but done year by year.

I give the author props for originality..as many site will literally copy and paste one VG chart and milk it every week.

The only thing that should be noted is you can compare year by year but these reflect lifetime sales of titles and not what they did that particuliar year.

Originally it failed because it lacked a lot of the elements that are there now. It got approved now because the author went back and improved on the article.

That's the point..The flame passes with flying colors..some of it is from you know the Kotakus and the IGNs as well as the no name fanblog sites..I just gave the guy a little props for doing a lot more work than even the big boys and the flame N4G standards like CVG and that 'fake' Xbox site.

At the end of the day, I guess that's what brings in the hits..you now got the 'Official' console sites joining in as well..

A bit of a thought provoking piece with one huge, glaring flaw. For sales data it uses VGChartz. VGChartz, the fan site run by the Neogaf user Ioi who was banned from those forums for posting bogus sales numbers back in the day, is notorious for getting their software sales wrong. Often when software data is made available by the developers themselves, we've seen VGChartz numbers off by more than 100%.

But as a fan site, there's no one out there to hold VGChartz to account for inaccuracies with their data, and as software sales are rarely made public - how can you even verify the data they present? All we do know is that when data is made available, actual numbers from devs and VGChartz are usually miles apart.

I applaud this piece for trying, but VGChartz simply isn't a reliable source and shouldn't be taken seriously. There's a reason no one in the industry looks at them. Microsoft's Greenburg once even mocked them via twitter. "LOL'ing at sales reports from VGChartz, why do people release info as official when there is no source or science behind the #s?"

What's sad is the site makes the bold claim "GC Spotlight is one of the few places you can go where only cold hard facts are used." I admire what they're trying to do, but you might want to rethink what you classify as "facts".

For me PS3 has the best exclusives, and that's why I'm always playstation first... 360 Has good ones too, Lost Odyssey was/is one of my all time fav rpg's, Gears is good. Playstation seems to have more, and usually comes out with a steady flow of new exclusives... that really hit a wide range of gamers.

I am a Ps3 gamer at heart but you just can't say that because let's face it it's all opinion. But the Ps3 does have a lot more exclusives though. When I bought the Ps3 way back in 07 I knew the games would come and they sure have. Both consoles are great systems now really but there will always be a preference factor involved. I do like the fact that the Ps3 provides different genre of exclusive games. But I feel that the Ps3 really needs a awesome new rpg game. It's lacking a bit in that department.

as for halo and forza being the best of their genre, thats your opinion. i dont have a gaming pc i have a 360...i do like halo, fable, alan wake, and the witcher but best in their genres? thats debatable.

i know most wont agree but a game thats similar to halo but better imo is the crysis series. if we're talking about fps in general, ill throw the rainbow 6s and fallouts over halo also.. probably some more. skyrim/oblivion + dark/demon souls > the witcher and fable, dead space + uncharted + starhawk > alan wake and gears..midnight club la > forza, those are just some similar games that top the 360 exclusives but im not here to debate opinion.

theres many similar multi plats and some exclusives on the ps3 that are just flat out better than the 360 exclusives in their genre imo. they need to step their games up a little bit to be considered the best in their perspective genres.

Firstly, Rainbow 6 and Fallout above Halo? How can you even compare those games to Halo? Rainbow 6 games this generation have primarily third person shooters and even then, aren't comparable in terms of quality/scope. Fallout is an RPG as opposed to a shooter albeit in the first person perspective. Your comparison makes little sense here.

Crysis and its overall quality leave a lot to be desired (story, multiplayer component and features etc) and again, doesn't offer any real competition whatsoever.

I actually prefer Uncharted to Gears but only as far as the single player is concerned. Multiplayer wise there is no competition. Uncharted's MP is just an after thought in comparison (hence why it didn't even feature in the first game). There are some on here who would go to extreme lengths to even argue against that even if objectively, the truth is quite clear.

Your post lists some very specific games that you prefer and they make don't really form any real comparison. Take how you list Midnight Club La, an arcade racer against a racing simulation. The new Forza isn't out yet so I'm sure you're not comparing it to that.

I completely disagree with you about exclusives bring flat out better on the PS3. Whilst Metal Gear and LBP have no comparison, 360 exclusives, in my opinion not only stand up well but are superior in some respects:

*Infamous vs Crackdown: Crackdown in my opinion and even as a form of objective scrutiny is a far superior and innovative game (not including the sequel). Infamous feels generic in comparison. In crackdown, the developers (the person who made GTA may I add) really nailed the whole super hero element as well as what makes sandbox games fun. The way you leap through buildings, attack objectives in your way, transform cars and play all of it via co op....it was and still is an amazingly fun game. I completed infamous and I never understood the hype. Basic electricity attacks, poorer platforming, less original compared to the orbs etc in crackdown, lacklustre combat compared to the sheer unscripted chaos you can unleash on crackdown, poor implementation of good vs evil choices.

I don't think the Sony exclusives are as amazing as many on here make them out to be. Still, I do concede that the 360 needs more exclusives but not because of any pressure from Sony. The multi plat games plus 360 games are more than enough.

Still, I own a PS3, 360 and gaming PC and I'm getting the best of all worlds. I actually game on all of them equally in terms of time spent. I have my preferences and I still maintain that, as a multiplayer centric gamer, the 360 is the clearer console of choice.

I'm at work so I don't have time to elaborate further, although this post is long enough already.

Basically, each to their own. I actually sincerely believe that the PS3 and 360 are equally as good lately.

God of War has always been a huge blockbuster seller. All the main entries have sold at least 4.25 million & God of War III has sold over 5.3 million copies in 2 1/2 years and is tracking towards passing 6 million lifetime sales, that's not far off the best selling Gears of War game.

I think God of War: Ascension will outsell Gears of War: Judgement and Gears:J will be the worst selling Gears game yet for 5 reasons; 1) Gears of War 3 was a massive disappointment to a lot of people, 2) It's releasing far too soon after Gears of War 3, 3) It has a different main character which will put off some gamers, 4) A different developer is handling the bulk of development, 5) It the first time a Gears of War game isn't being released near the xmas sales period.

As of right now GoW:A is destroying Gears:J in overall and weekly pre-orders in the USA (source: Vgchartz), both franchises best selling regions, I'm 80% sure God of War: Ascension will sell more unless something goes horribly wrong or Sony don't market the game well.

If its a single player game that has excluisve content it depends if it rlly interests me enough to get it on PS3. Not to mention everything being on 1 disk on PS3 compared to many more examples of multiple disks or DLC vouchers for the 360's Game of the Year editions, etc.

I think a lot of the exclusives that made up Microsoft's numbers the last two years were Kinect titles. Aside from the casual sector, Microsoft's exclusive line-up the last two years has been relatively lackluster. Let's hope they pick it up again next-gen

No. If you want to bring in XBLA games, then also consider PSN only games, and you have a major difference. Then, you can aslo take out Kinect games, or compensate by including PS Minis as well.

Oh this old chestnut. I'll say that for their respective fanbases, both companies do enough to satisfy them from what we've been told. So from that, PS and Xbox fans clearly have different standards. PS has the more diverse selection and will continue to.

Though, Sony have been more dedicated to games, new IP, new experiences, and have done for years. You'll see their strategy very much mirrors that of PS2 in its later years , except with more exclusives. The release of a PS2 masterpiece -> Shadow of the Colossus. The release of a PS3 masterpiece -> The Last of Us.

Multi-platform means it's on multiple platforms.
