Yes some older code still exists but they've totally gutted most of the systems and overhauled them. So on a technicality you can say it's the same engine, but in a totally different context than say CoD/Madden/insert any other yearly franchise that looks the same as its predecessor.
It does come from the character 343 Guilty Spark. Either the guy above only plays MP or he doesn't play halo at all because it's a very important and prominent character in the entire first trilogy.
Halo 4 is looking like an excellent and worthy sequel, and the music is beautiful.
Don't get me wrong I can't wait for Halo 4 but I want to see more that amazing gameplay not live action stuff.
It's like E3...they showed a 2 minute live action trailer then had 30 seconds at the end showing a montage of some cutscenes. I man we had a level shown but I want to see an epic Halo 4 story trailer.
I think we'll get one more closer to launch, but I think 343i want to avoid what Bungie did to Reach and recreate the same experience we had from Halo CE. They don't want to spoil the story too much for us, so they're just giving us tidbits and small gameplay footage of the campaign.
Riding Giant Mechs? Hope I seen that right! A mission on that giant truck while it's moving would be epic. Love the darker yet still halo art style. Looks like Halo Wars art direction which is the best look of all halo's.
You wont be dissapointed - my brother was never a Halo fan only because he thought it was too mainstream like the same reason people here hate on COD but when he played Halo 3 he was hooked and went back and played the other 2 Halo plus read all the books.
I recommend you give Halo 3 a shot if you already have a 360, you can pick it up used for about 15 bucks and the amount of content that H3 holds is worth way more than 15 bucks.
Also if you end up liking 3 and cant wait till Nov for your Halo fix pick the Halo CE Anniversary game....madnessss!
Please don't take this as a fanboy remark because I'm not taking shots at halo. I feel that killzone has great music too (IM NOT SAYING ONE IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER) seeing as the composer for the killzone games in none other than Hanns Zimmer, the same genius behind the dark knight, inception, etc. Halo and killzone both to me have GREAT music!

Dont mean to sound fanboyish, but what sony/wii exclusives are BAD? ID say all the console makers push out quality exclusives, some just release more than others. Even if this game reviews with perfect 10s it would be on the same level as games like mario galaxy, uncharted, zelda, MGS4. No better no worse. Its just that microsoft releases less exclusives annually. so it many be about quality, but other release quality AND quality.
I'm not saying anything bad about Sony or Nintendo. They make marvelous games(especially exclusives). I'm just speaking about Microsoft. They seem to try to go all in when it comes to the few exclusives that they have.

You are talking "standards" not graphics. Standard wise Gears 2 does stand up to Uncharted 2 and IMO surpasses it. There is much more do to in Gears aside from just looking at graphics. There is just so much more content in Gears 2 than there is in Uncharted 2. Uncharted 2 has a great cinematic gaming experience in it's single player campaign. It's multiplayer aspect is horrible as well as the overall AI.

COD is linear. 2) Drivable vehicles- while in COD the most you are limited to is on rail segments ( hope this will change) 3)Amazing music 4) Genuine sci-fi- eg. the Superintendent from HAlo ODST, COrtana.
Halo really is in a class by itself. Truly the definition of masterpiece. The imagination, the creativity, the music, the story, and the gameplay is second to none.

The story and dialogue in Halo 2 was probably some of the best in the series though imo. Campaign was a let down I guess, especially the ending, but learning about the Covenant was really cool. Music was amazing as well.

I'll agree with Microsoft recycling their exclusive franchises these past 3 years, but this game looks way better than Reach on a graphical level (though I am curious why they've removed motion blur even though it was in Reach. Seems like a step back.)

There's no reason to downplay games that others enjoy. In a way I agree with your argument but the same can be said of other companies. And while some games DO get stale over time—IMO Halo is not one of them. Give me a solid Halo every 2 to 3 years and I'll buy it so long as the quality that I've known to expect comes along with it—it's the same like I do for quality games on other consoles.
Halo 4 is the best game this year. Usually games have either Quality or Quantity but Halo 4 has both. I cant wait to get the Halo 4 console bundle on Nov 6.
I have played many fps but Halo 3 was simply the best. I never had Xbox live because of a number of issues with my old Xbox 360. No network adaptor, 256 MB memory card and expensive Xbox live but i still enjoyed playing split screen with my brother and friends almost every day.
That same excitement has only been matched and perhaps surpassed by Socom Confrontation on my PS3. Partly due to the fact of never experiencing Halo 3 online multiplayer. Finally i will get my chance with Halo 4 on release day to experience it fully

I'm not really understanding the hype behind the graphics for this. I've never owned a 360, so I can only assume these types of graphics are almost unheard of for an xbox exclusive.
IMO Gears 3 looks a whole lot more impressive than whats been shown of Halo 4. Obviously there's still time to improve the textures/details before release, but even still......it just looks meh too me.
What exactly isn't attracting you about it? The facial animations are a BIG step-up from Halo: Reach, we finally have a true 720p Halo with FXAA, and from the looks of things 343 still retained the open-world/sandbox feel of previous Halo games.
Dammm I'm impressed, 343 seems to be doing a helluva job with so much pressure to deliver on a franchise that has a huge fanbase with high expectations. As a longtime Halo fan, I was rightfully worried when Bungie stepped away but now I'm thankful micro has put the future of 1 of my favorite franchises in very capable hands.
