Do people not remember Cloud or something? Sure, he's dull as dirt in the rest of the FFVII Compilation, but so many people pass him off as being boring or an asshole in the original game when he was nothing like that at all. He was talkative, he was emotional, he was often goofy or said silly things. But a jerk? Hardly.
Sometimes I wonder if the people who call him a jerk only played the first hour of the game then quit, because Cloud's peresonality brightens up as soon as you leave Midgar (when he decides to fight for the greater good, instead of doing dirty-work for money). And that really isn't too far into the game at all.
Last time I checked lacking any charisma is not the same as being a jerk. Nowhere near in fact.
Cloud, like may on the list, just don't come off as someone you'd expect to come to lead a rag-tag group of heroes tasked with saving the world, or become like a near Christ popular figure. Gordon Freemen because few if anyone knew of the role he played in saving the world - which he didn't.
