1UP Preview | God of War: Ascension Gives Kratos an Extra Layer of Rage

Francesco Dagostino writes: It's impossible to even mention God of War: Ascension without talking about violence. Kratos, after all, is one of the angriest characters in videogame history, and he's always been famous for his gory fighting style and his "ungentlemanly" attitude. But the extra layer of violence that the Santa Monica team has applied to Ascension has often been criticized as intolerable, and therefore the game has, ever since E3, attracted attention for all the wrong reasons. I say "wrong" because, whether or not you are okay with the things shown in the trailers for the single and multiplayer modes, it's time to start treating Ascension as a videogame, and sadly leave to the side whether or not glorifying violence in this way serves any purpose for the media and specifically for the gameplay of this title. (Gamescom 2012, God of War: Ascension, PS3)

Still looks awesome. Day one buy! Who doesn't love God of War? (other than those people who despise it for having the same gameplay in every game even though there are a lot more games out there that play the same every time, but still love it)

i love GOW, people wil find ways to hate on a game and some hate it because its a sony exclusive

i hope after this GOW goes in a different time period and continues, i don't want GOW franchise to die

sackboy can be sony's mascot all he wants but Kratos belong at the very top

I always wondered why they havnt explored his title more. He is the God of war and we know that this means more than just violence. War is strategy, retreat, and cooler heads. Maybe we will c just how he became so violent above all else. It is a phenomena game, though, and I am happy they are making it better. But honestly, just more gow is enough for me.

agreed. they gently showcased this in GOW2 when perseus or some spartan asks Kratos or his Lord how they (the spartans) should proceed concerning the matters at the time.

it showed how Kratos was still looked upon as a strategist whom many followed

Good catch. And now we get to c him long before gow2, so maybe we will get a violent but smart God of war.
