We’ve maxed out the technology of the Xbox 360 and the PS3, according to Artur Falkowski, producer of gorgeous upcoming FPS The Adventurer – who suggests the team is now readying itself for the next gen.
I think we can all agree that we need next gen consoles. No, not Wii U, I said NEXT GEN consoles!
who is he?
lol i was thinking the same. Devs have maybe maxed out the 2 machines (which is not true, for PS3 at least) but i think there is no limit to creativity and PS3 360 provide enough horsepower to allow good stuff. Wii U will prove him wrong for the next 5 years !
As far as "untapped" hardware abilities I would say the 360 has more left than the PS3. SSM, GG and ND keep pushing and pushing PS3 limits and have been for a few years now. On the 360 ONLY Epic seems to push the hardware, and now 343 seems to be pushing it further (sorry Bungie, you didn't) as well.
technically i know who he is and what studio he represents(Polish ppl, some of them was involved with some bigger projects), but i think he is not right person to cry about "technological peaks" he may cry about small dev team and lack of time and cash to optimize code, making changes to engine etc, sorry for him, coz optimization never comes easy and is time consuming, no "CODE GURU One CLICK Wizard-Creator" here... sorry. For PC they have a chance to make some nice game, for x360, too but it may look dumbed down, but for ps3... even they are not optimistic now :)
DarkTower805 are you kidding the 360 was maxed 3 years ago everytime a new ps3 exclusive comes out it looks better than the games before it
Lol, in an article like this I really can't tell if that's sarcasm.
HA HA AHA HA HAAAAAH! OH, that was a good one. LOL!
"reached their technological peak" I agree with that. But I also think there's a lack of quality titles that can even compare to NES titles when it comes to imagination and lore.
these developers are talking about technological peaks and yet they can't deliver a game that's worth every penny spend. 2.) I understand some developers at least try to set an distinction to there craft, but here's the thing, anytime you try to be something other than yourself you end up being the same as everyone else. All I can say is this, stick to the basics and try your best not to forget the fundamentals. If you can stay true to that logic you can break every rule in the book. Thus, becoming something truly unique.
I care about games and not tech, I don't need 1080p in every game to make me happy, thou I'm getting a PC to play RE remake in 1080p.
Wow SDF out in full force on this one.. Wii U has you guys living in fear doesnt it? Nothing said about Wii U at all but here comes Sony's biggest defenders to trash talk something far superior in every way to what they can afford. Cheer up kids. Maybe your parents will buy you a new console.
You mean just two people who's comments you should have no issue ignoring unless you, yourself, have an insecurity?
These articles about about pointless, its clearly a matter of opinion based on the work each dev is doing. On one hand we have devs coming out saying there's plenty of room left to work with current consoles and the next says they have reached their peak. If Naughty Dog were to say they can't do anymore then what we have seen that it carries more weight then The Farm 51 who have made 3 games ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... and say they they have reached the tech cap. I'm sorry, but right now the two are worlds a part and The Farm 51 telling me they've reached the tech cap of either console is hard to believe.
Blah blah blah, maybe the devs need to build a new engine. I still think there's life left in the ps3. Now on the other hand 360 is definately maxed out. Wii u is still in the air, because we don't even know the specs. I for one would love to see 1080p at 60 fps. I know when I play call of booty I can see the envirement fluctuate while I move around the analog stick. Let's hope our next Xbox makes 1080p running at 60fps with jaw dropping graphics. I'm sure that will make the hardcore gamer happy. It might help get rid of all the gamers negativity.
I wouldn't necessarily say that the 360 is maxed out. Just as it is with the PS3, it takes the right developers to push the tech. Witcher 2 on the 360 shows as much. I'm not saying that the PS3 doesn't have a certain edge when it comes to power, mind you. I'm not a big Sony fan, and I still consider this to be true. But, under the right circumstances, the dated tech of both systems can still impress. At the end of the day, however, I still feel that this generation has been a bit too drawn out.
Really, the witcher 2? I'll have to check that one out. Just for the record I'm not a fanboy I own both consoles and I do play my 360 more than my ps3. I just know that when I go back and play older titles on my ps3 like god of war, I'm still impressed. I dont see many 360 games that awe me like certain exclusives that Sony has to offer. On the other hand I like how mw3 runs and looks on the 360 than on the ps3. I bought both versions and can tell a difference. I am looking forward to halo 4. After that lets hope Microsoft announces something about there next console.
@Sandman Yeah. You should really check out some videos of the game taking place in the woods of Flotsam. The amount of detail being rendered on-screen at one time, along with the quality of texture work and lighting on display is truly impressive. I strongly recommend giving the game itself a try though. Simply one of the best western rpgs this generation. Not to mention the fact that the developer, CD Projekt, are some of the greatest guys around and hold a great view on development and customer appreciation.
I hate it when devs cry about a console reaching its peak. If they really think that then start making games for PC of course they won't do that because they're full of shit to begin with.
I think I will let naughty dog tell me when ps3 has reached its peak or any other exclusive developer
I've never understood that line of thinking. JUST when developers and everyone get comfortable and understand the technologies ins and outs ~ they all want to jump ship and move on to the "unknown" and release garbage. Then you get fantastic games that NO ONE plays, because they are last-gen. WTF is this madness? If you finally learned how to use a device and software tool-set then it would stand to reason that you would stay there and make some powerhouse games. Not move on to prettier graphics and shitty execution and questionable game design because "its new tech and you are getting familiar with it"
I hear what you're saying but you have to understand a lot of devs are tech junkies and like working with cutting edge hardware and software. It's like buying a smartphone, at first it's awesome, it takes a while to learn all the new and cool things it can do, but after a few months you get bored. Imagine having that same phone for 7 years knowing that there are other phones out there that can do so much more but you can't have it yet.
The only thing I was really interested in from this interview was the commentary about the behind doors meetings from E3 for Unreal 4 and Nintendo's/Microsoft's next consoles. I think this is the first time I have heard a developer openly say they have seen a demo of what MS's next machine can do.
Seems like I've read this article a million times. There were articles back in 2009 saying 360 reached its graphical "peak".
To me they reached their peak about 2 years ago. For example, I wouldn't say Uncharted 3 or Mass Effect 3 looks much better than Uncharted 2 or Mass Effect 2. The games coming out now don't look much better than the games that can out 2 years ago.
Yes, because some no-name jackass like this guy can say he maxed out PS3, when he has yet to so much develope a game for it? Riiiight. On top of that, this Adventurer game looks like sh*t. Graphically and gameplay.
With all things considered, I'd rather take someone who has actually worked on these consoles first-hand than just ignorantly come out and say he's just a "no-name jackass". But then again, he is just a producer and not a programmer. So I can't tell if he has really dug deep into the technical side of the consoles.
When more devs. put their time into PS3 like say... Naughty Dog... I will let them get away with this statement!
See, this is the kind of bullshit devs say because they want the technology to run FOR them not designing systems for the tech. After seeing SoTC running on the PS2 doing things it's not technologically supposed to, this kind of argument, along with the fact they utilizes a 3rd party engine has destroys any possible merit he says.
I don't know, I think games have a little way to go yet, look at The Last Of Us, Two Souls on PS3 and Halo 4 and Gears Judgment on Xbox 360. Those games are far superior looking than anything else on their respective consoles.
Everytime Someone mentions Next Gen I Post this link and say Look at "Beyond Two Souls"
