Hirai: Gaikai deal will propel games industry to the cloud

He also stated that consumers were increasingly moving to the mobile space, and he felt that cloud technology was related to that movement, hinting that the the future of PlayStation could be cross-platform (Industry, Kaz Hirai, Mobile, Next-Gen, PS3, Tag Invalid, Tech)

"“There are a variety of OSes,” he added. “But we’re focusing first on Android. There’s also Windows, iOS and so forth, but we don’t have the resources to make it compatible with everything from the start.”" - Kaz Hirai

The future of consoles is cross platform with phones, tablets and pc's.

glad to see
sony is joining MS and others in the idea of a digital future.

If they can come to an agreement on such things like DD and cloud then i would hope they come to an agreement on cross platform competition.

I wonder what valve thinks of the whole cloud gaming thing. I bet they are looking into it at least to stay current with technology.

So far google fiber will be expanding next year & I am sure people will pay for it since it's a good deal!

Seems to me they're trying hold options for "in-case" scenarios that may appear next-gen. Sony completely overlooked the online phenomenon on the PS3 hence was severely disadvantaged initially from the 360's standpoint. It seems they're doing the opposite and trying to prepare for any possible directions the gaming industry might face with minimal losses.

The cloud has been talked about for 5 years now, this is a really slow take off.

I am still reluctant to be part of cloud gaming and cloud based things i prefer to have more physical medium of storage.

slow take off? the cloud has already landed. email, games, movies, etc.

@ disagrees

Look the cloud is here. Blame your internet speed for any lag.

ISP incompetence and greed will keep it grounded.

Not to mention people like physical ownership and like to sell games when they're done, and people like to buy pre-owned games.

Discs ftw!

I am looking forward to seeing how Sony will implement Gaikai in the Playstation side of things.

It should be interesting considering there are so many things they can do to improve it now.

If they release it and the service works well, it could be the defacto thing in upping itself from the competition.

There are still so many if, when and how questions in regards to this, but I am optimistic about it.

Gaikai has tech to speed up downloads significantly and stream everything of coarse. Sony will take all the advantages and apply them along side of phyical media I'm sure. Everyone should benefit somehow whether it's much faster downloads with Gaikai tech, complete streaming, or maybe PS4 streaming to PS3. So many options:)
