John Carmack: "Cloud Gaming will be an Inevitable Part of the Future of Gaming"

As part of his keynote speech John also mentioned OnLive as a key player in cloud gaming. He is of the opinion that it is inevitable that cloud gaming will be a strong part of the future of gaming. He said that everytime he meets Valve's head honcho Gabe Newell, he mentions to him that he should really look into cloud gaming as Valve has the Steam ecosystem and customer base. (Industry, John Carmack, Next-Gen, OnLive, Tech)

After further review.......
Cloud is gonna kill off Gaming!!!

I spoke alot about the Cloud and how it's gonna take over but after seriously thinking it through the Cloud is gonna hurt gaming.

Sure it will be cool at first but then with a small handful of companies controlling the Cloud everything will cost an arm and a leg.

Sure you will have F2P games but your gonna have to pay a monthly fee just have access to the cloud.

Pay for the Internet monthly
pay for Cloud access monthly
5 different Cloud Service each with there own fees
Pay for F2p micro-transactions
Be plagued by Advertisements before your game starts
more in Game Ads
Some may even charge you by the HOUR like they do in South Korea!
NEVER EVER own any of your games
Internet gets knocked off-line you CAN'T game
No Mods
Less quality Indie games
Less original content cause the Cloud will cater to the Mainstream

The Cloud isn't gonna be nice to us!! So I say as Gamers we reject it!!!

No, actually, some people don't have internet. You'd notice if you leave your cave and get to know the people in the world.

Sad as it is, some people don't have internet.

everyone has internet. Via phone, via computer... Its basically standard. If you dont, then you are the one living in a cave. Its everywhere. Hell its free for lower end connections.

i think he is right moving forward cloud is gonna become a much bigger part of gaming and IMO that's a good thing

Cloud gaming, the way it is for now, is a great thing, and if it stayed that way it'd be great.

Unfortunately, we can't help but fear it will become a shithole, because when the money-train rolls in we all get screwed.

Yup I hope it is a Part of gaming. There's no reason as to why we shouldn't have retail, download and cloud gaming. All 3 of these forms can live in harmony and complete unison and we gamers will benefit.

Is CaptainObvious still a user on N4G?

I feel like his powers could be used here.

A PART, not the whole thing and I'm perfectly fine with it! My internet went out earlier today and I was still able to play MGS4 during the time.....
