A brief synopsis of the book is as follows: In the year 2044, the real world has become a disgusting, decaying wasteland. Most people live in trailer homes that have been stacked on one another to provide more space and simplistic plumbing, electricity, etc. Think of it like an apartment building combined with a townhouse combined with a trailer park, and all very dilapidated. To escape this, the world now uses a virtual world called the OASIS. It’s like a virtual internet where quite literally anything is possible. Everyone can be someone else and no one would know. Whole lives are spent in the OASIS leaving the real world behind. Enter Wade Watts. Our protagonist. An 18 year-old who spends every waking minute logged in.
