In just a few more days Ubisoft will launch Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles for the DS, a portable prequel to last year's retail hit, critical hit-or-miss Assassin's Creed on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In anticipation of the game's release, the publisher let IGN delve into the near final build of the Nintendo DS version for a few chapters of assassinating, interrogating, and pick-pocketing.
Clearly, expectations need to be lowered just a bit when booting this prequel up on your Nintendo DS. Developers can pull off some really spectacular things on the handheld, but the hardware isn't current generation level of power. Gameloft, the Nintendo DS game's development studio, works with the game's strengths and its weaknesses to build a game that has the spirit of the console game… but isn't quite as elaborate.
