Cross Buy is a great development that not only makes Cross Play a near-revelation, but instantly makes PS3 games with the feature a must-buy for Vita owners -- giving reason to choose the PS3 version over 360.
If I wasn't so poor and had money to blow then I would get one. Getting the Vita version free is a good idea.
Still questions to be answered. Like: Physical PS3 copy and digital Vita copy? Or both digital copies? Would like to know what Sony is planning for distribution of these games.
I would bet on digital only. There's no way to control such thing with physical copies I guess, people would cheat.
According to this: http://www.shoptonews.net/2... Both.
@ Pirate Thom I think that's what GynGa was trying to say. If you buy the PS3 version digitally or physically you'll get a voucher to download the Vita version for free. I think @MattyF was asking can you buy the PS3 retail copy, and get the Vita retail copy as well, thus @GynGa saying "There's no way to control such thing with physical copies I guess, people would cheat." But anywho. It's a great idea, I too said they should do this, but I didn't expect it to be free. The only problem is that now you'll have no choice but to upgrade to that overpriced 32GB Memory Card ($100) to benefit from all these games. But even then it's a pretty fair trade-off, and will lead the way to ushering in the age of all digital.
If your mem card isn't full enough. You can temporarily backup your other "games" on the PS3/PC until you can get a better storage space for the Vita.
@DigitalAnalog That's true, but personally I'm one of those people who wants it all, all the time......That sounds kind of kinky :D
I love that Sony does this First we can get Blu-ray movies with DVDs and digital copies and now we get Vita games with PS3 games
Sony should have made this day one!! At least I only bought PSVITA games exclusive for now.
Perfect! Esp for PSASBR!
Glad I already got mine.
Well not very many people would be willing to buy two copies of the same game, they would choose one or the other. So it always made since to do this but I'm glad they actually pulled the trigger on this.
Cross buy is a great addition by Sony but it does not make Vita Essential for PS3 owners. Vita is still very much in murky waters as a must own device if you ask me.
Nobody asked you..
I don't know about you but if you wanna play your ps3 games anywhere then the vita is a must and cross-buy helps justify it even further. Not only that but Vita has a much better and smoother interface for all your multitasking needs. If it wasn't for that MGS4 patch my ps3 would be under the bed with my 360 until December.
Even so this cross buy isn't really free to PS3 owners like me since we still have to spend $270 on a Vita with tax, plus $21 for memory card
what are you talking about? you will also get a PS vita for free if you get the game no need to spend that. I'm amaze of people like you!!! you also want the ice-cream? given in your mouth at your bed by the model in the poster publicity? while you play with your new vita? lol
My point was, we still have to be convinced to invest in the platform in the first place. And the only way I would be convinced to buy a PSV is exclusive content that will never appear on the PS3. Why spend money on something just to be able to play the game you already own on the go? I certainly don't have the time for playing handhelds outside of my home and in that case I'll just play it on the PS3. But I understand why a lot of people will love this, those who are particularly big fans of PS3/PSV
A bit off on the pricing, but yeah I see what you mean. This is clearly for PS3 owners who own a Vita as well.
No it doesn't. That's like saying the Gameboy player for the SNES made a Gameboy a must have...(or vice versa) This adds nothing to either console... but also takes nothing away. Why would buying a $250 machine be "Necassary" to enjoy games you have already bought and can play? A cool additional feature, but nothing else.
i hope this works for physical copies as well. they could include both in one case.
Damn it feels good to be a gangsta..
Great! Now THIS makes sense as no one was gonna buy twice the same game. I'm buying those games to make my Vita games library bigger. Still pissed MGS HD Collection didn't do this...
LOL that would be so awesome if it applied to the MGS HD collection as well. Of course it wouldn't considering that game is already out and this being barely announced today. At least we know it could be a possibility for future MGS game both available for the PS3 and Vita. I am being optimistic, but as of right now, this is only for Sony first party games right? Cheers.
Yep, I know, but Kojima should have thought about it. What's up with the famous transfarring system? It won't go anywhere without crossbuy. It's a shame.
Yeah true, this would be perfect with the transfarring system. I am sure with that, they would work something out with Sony to best capitalize on both systems. Cheers.
"Cross Buy Makes Vita Essential For PS3 Owners" I bought mine at launch ;o)...
This will definitely get more PS3 owners to get the Vita
Alright Sony, thats a smart move to get more Vita's sold. Now get it even into higher gear by selling PSVita through PSN to current almost 70 million PS3 owners by throwing in a PS+ & Vita deal for 199 to max 229 bucks, shipped to the buyer on PSN. THAT would bring in a lot of PSVita sales with the current 70 mln PS3 owners. Combine this with the new Vita update that makes it a controller for PS3 with multitouch (unlike WiiUpgrades weak one touch bulky tablet) as we've seen with LBP2 in Sony's conference on Gamescom yesterday and you might outsell the WiiUpgrade this Christmas...
