Eric Lempel – VP, Sony Network Entertainment, via PlayStation EU Blog writes:

"Hi, everyone. One of the key announcements coming out of Gamescom today is that the next PS Vita System Software Update (v1.80) is coming your way late August, and will add support for playing PSone Classics on your PlayStation Vita. I know a lot of you have been looking forward to playing original PlayStation titles on the go.

In addition, you will be able to make various setting changes while games are running and take screenshots of your gameplay.
*It might not be possible to take screenshots in some applications, or in some parts of applications.

Listed after the break are a few other new features that will be added with the 1.80 update."

cant wait. i only want a few ps one games. tony hawk, dave mirraBMX, road rash 3d, and GT1 or 2 would be incredible but i doubt it right.. isn't that like impossible or something...?

this applies to all existing ps1 games already on the store or are they having to remake them again to be playable on the vita?

I have several ps1 games and it would be cool to sync up the to the ps3 and play them on the vita instead of psp.

and not a damn will be given...just sayin, most smart phones can run a ps1 emulator.

I wonder if those emulators are compatible with the saves I have on my PS1 memory cards. I wonder if I can play those games on the big screen, as well. I also wonder if the controls will be nearly as good; after all, the Vita's controls are virtually identical to any Playstation console's controls, as opposed to the generally lackluster touch controls of smartphones and tablets.

Somehow, I don't think any of these things are true of the emulators...

@hicken 1.yes if you dump the saves to your computer, 2.yes...hdmi out, 3 no..they dont have buttons

the games dont cost anything though

It's about time. This should of been ready the day the Vita was released!

Spenok1922d ago

I agree, but late is absolutely better than never.

jlukee1922d ago

True! I'm hoping they might be able to get ps2 games to be compatible as well sometime in the near future. That may be wishful thinking though. :)

Yes!

I knew it would pay off buying all the Final Fantasy PS1 games when they were half price the other month!

Back of the net.

Finally.

Also, does anyone have any issues with the current latest firmware? I think it's 1.69, but my Vita always freezes on the Friends and Messaging screens every time I go on them. This has never happened before but with this firmware.

I haven't had any problems with the current firmware. Sometimes it doesn't respond to me touching it, but I think that's because of my new screen protector.

Man it's gonna be awesome playing all the ps1 era RPG classics on my vita :) just bought Legend of dragoon and it was cheap on the PSstore, looking to transfer Grandia and FF7.
