Musings on the Future of Multiplayer Gaming

"I love Team Fortress 2 and many of its predecessors (as well as a solid chunk of its contemporaries) just as much as the next guy. If the gameplay is fulfilling, fun and clean, you can put two people in a room and say, “You, in the red! Fight the one in blue!” all day and I won’t question things. The day is quickly approaching, though, when players are going to start asking what the next step is. They might just start wondering what new forms multiplayer gaming can take. The companies that provide the answer, that know what it looks like before we do, like Valve did with Counterstrike, those will be the originals we remember, the Goldeneye titles."
