Deep Silver: "Family" trailer didn't sell Dead Island, co-op did

The somewhat controversial, heavily emotional "Family" trailer for Dead Island caused a great deal of reaction and discussion when the video was released, but according to Deep Silver executive producer Guido Eickmeyer, it ultimately did not help the game garner 4M sales across three platforms.

Instead, he states, it was the co-op gameplay.

Never touched the co-op....sure it did help but certainly was not the main selling factor. Plenty of games with cleaner releases for the MP/Coop crowd.

i played coop with basically everyone i knew. I think coop was a HUGE HUGE reason alot of people bought this game.

DarkTower8052016d ago

I bought 2 copies to play co-op, but ultimately it was the trailer that first sparked my interest so it's a combination of both being the reason why it sold well.

BuLLDoG9092016d ago

shows what DS know, i bought the game a couple months after release, the only reason i didnt buy it on release was the whole co-op thing, but when i found out it wasnt half bad as singleplayer i picked it up,
traded it and rebought the goty edition.

heres someone who bought the game twice, and almost passed on it altogether because of the whole co-op spin.

You may have never touched the co-op. But that doesn't change the fact that it was still what sold the game, as well as it did.

The RPG aspects were seemless between co-op to SP. Only game that does that, that I know of, is Borderlands. (and maybe Dead Rising)

also canthar there isn't many COop games out there. Something easy to say but get a friend and look thru them all and there isn't many.

no the trailer got people into getting the game but you've done goof on it.

I never actually touched co-op in this one. Still loved the game. If I could make the request that you leave in the duplicating items glitch, personally i loved the game a lot more after i could duplicate a weapon i really loved! For me it was the electric machete!

MysticStrummer2016d ago

No. The trailer made me want the game. Co-op kept me playing it even though it was the buggiest game I've ever played in my life. There is no way in hell I'd even consider buying the GotY edition. The fact that anyone named Dead Island GotY is a huge joke to me.

seanpitt232016d ago

I tried to connect to coop but it never worked for me but it wasnt the reason i bought the game.
