Blizzards Next Project is Starcraft Online?

Quoted as 'China's leading online game operator', Netease is reported to be considering licensing agreements with foreign online game developers.

Of particular interest is this quote: "Caijing Magazine reported that the first foreign online game to be operated by Netease, which used to rely on independent R&D, will be Starcraft Online, developed by US-based Blizzard, quoting an industry insider as saying." (PC, StarCraft, Starcraft II, Starcraft: Brood War)

after reading the other posts in there, i'm about 99.9999% sure they are just referring to starcraft 2. either it's what they're calling the online server system, or if that's what they call it over there because they are so into playing strategy games online.

Well, any mentions of "Starcraft Online" makes me cringle =D

Whether it is SC online (as in WoW) or SC2 I don't care - SOLD!

Hopefully their next MMO is the first MMORTS with Starcraft. The oppurtunity is right there for them to take control of another genre.

^^ I don't know how that would work - but I would sooooo be there!!

I can just see myself riding in a battlecruiser and blasting that yamato. It would be cool if they implemented it in a way that it feels like an RTS. The only catch is you only get to control 1 unit.
SRuN4  +   2635d ago
You wouldn't have to control only one unit. Instead you'd play like you normally would except instead of a max of 8 it'd be alot more on HUGE maps, with far more diplomacy options within your race, etc. Theres alot of ideas but I just dont feel like typing them out.

If its true, i guess you can forget the whole "PC gaming is dead" thing...

I had an idea where blizzard created an MMOeverything, heres how it goes:

Terran race get a first person view because they get all the guns, classes like ghost, marine, firebat, medic, etc. The first person race

Protoss get the standard 3rd person view because they have melee and spellcasters very akin to current MMO's.

Zerg get a RTS view, with a small number of units that they spawn and choose, with the player acting as their queen. Obviously the individual units are def weaker than a single protoss or terran player, but they strategize with their multiple units to overcome enemies. The camera is locked in the middle of all the units and follows them, so the player has a relativley wide view point, and they can send their units to alternate paths around the bad guys and so on, but they can't explore the whole map, if you know what I'm sayin.

With this, all playstyles can face off against each other in a game that appeals to everyone from Halo, WoW, and Starcraft fanboys. I mean, zerg need to be able to zerg things, so they need multiple weaker units, otherwise it just wouldn't be starcraft.

It could be the ultimate game ever, AMIRITE?

I think it would feel more natural if they all have the RTS view. It would be like playing the original starcraft only with more freedom and more teamplay involved. I would even settle for the graphics in SC1, there's just something about it that feels so right.

Surfer girl basically said it was going to be a diablo mmo.

"What is this new Blizzard MMO?
Demons, the Blizz don't do new IP."

if either one is true expect a subscription from me, plus pre order.

But Why?
Why would Blizzard pit a fantasy MMO up against a fantasy MMO? I can see them doing a StarCraft MMO as it would be a Science Fiction and wouldn't completely compete against World of Warcraft. Diablo pretty much would. I mean WoW even uses Diablo jokes.

The spy in pcgamer reported last month that this would be announced this year, and thats its going to be a planetside stlye mmofps

I think it would be wise for them to Bring back Diablo...
The starcraft universe is alive and well with SC2...it's time to bring back diablo!
Hooby  +   2635d ago
diablo universe is a swords n armor and magic game just like WoW. A diablo MMO makes no sense to me. Different setting, more serious story and such, grimmer, but its swords n armor. Fantasy. As an above poster said Startcraft MMO makes much more sense especially since if it was announced in a couple months it probably wouldn't be done for another couple years, giving Starcraft 2 plenty of time to settle with people.

Starcraft Online huh?
Let's see, 50% of the people will play stealth classes to be cheap and there will be one fantastically overpowered class that consistently remains overpowered while people who play said class complain that they were gimp "once upon a time that hasn't been reality for years", oh and there will have to be a class that tries to hog every weapon in the game, and a class that wants to be able to do everything and give up nothing.

Rogue, Warlock, Hunter, and Druid... Wonder what they'll be called in SCO.

Never thought of a MMORTS before. Would be a lot like EVE, but to an even grander scale! You'd have a small army instead, for each player :)

I wonder if it would work though. Sorry to say, I am a Blizz-ho, and would gulp down any game they sell! =P
