Shinji Mikami the one who turned RE into a action series and the countless supposed "REAL" RE fans that bought Resident Evil 4. blame them, they spend countless hours whining and complaining about "oh they miss the old resident evil this, oh they miss survival horror games that" but yet they are the ones that led to its demise in the first place.
PS. i could give two S**ts if you disagree its the truth you hypocrites.
RE4 was almost perfect, all it needed was a few more scares which was always stated by RE fans after it launched...you know as a reminder to Capcom when they made RE5, they almost did get it right.
I cant believe people actually agreed with you there. RE4 was a scary game, and it was really good. I could understand if you were talking about ResidentEvil5. I feel as if 5 is where it started going downhill. RE4 is considered one of the best horror games out there.
I can believe it because it's true. Here is a good rule of thumb.
Any game in which you have a rocket launcher isn't survival horror.
It's a simple as that. It's an action game with horror elements and the chasm that exists between those two game types is infinite.
If you play the early RE titles or something like Siren Blood Curse and then play RE4 it is actually more than Rocket launchers. The entire feel of the game is different and it has nothing to do with the 3rd person camera. It's the game and how it handles the prospects of survival. RE4 is a good game. It just isn't survival horror in the classic sense.
Wrong, Shinji Mikami's vision of Resident Evil 4 was much different. It kept not only camera angles and the innovative over the shoulder view but it had much scarier theatres to roam in, it focused more on psychological terror due to Leon being infected by the Progenitor virus plus it was announced that Leon was supposed to die in this entry.
Don't believe me. Watch these trailers and enjoy.....
RE4 was initially supposed to be a co directed with Kamiya and they both came up with what would later be called DMC. but shinji felt is strayed to far from the premise of the series. so that got scrapped, then RE4 went through dev hell and each demo that was made featured Leon infected with the progenitor virus and with symptoms of hallucination featuring the famous Hooked man and other paranormal activities. but what you fail to realize that shinji also feel that, that too was a little far fetched for RE4 and the series in general. then we got what turned into the RE4 we know today, which was also shinji's final vision of the game. so do me and a everyone else a favor, KNOW your facts before you spout bullcrap. thank you :)
Well hopefully with games like Slender shining throw we will start to see the genre bounce back a little but in terms of Resident Evil, they basically wanted to open the audience up and make it more of an action title, it's just not scary anymore.
"what happened to survivor horror?" It changed to suite the casual gamers of today because there are more of them and thats where the money is. Screw the loyal fans. Who needs them when we have an endless supply of casual gamers.
Survival horror, just because YOU weren't scared doesn't mean others weren't, spooky mansion check, creepy ass journal entries check, limited ammo check, scare tactics *dogs crashing through windows, hunters ambushing you out of no where* check, flesh eating zombies check etc etc.
Don't take it that I'm talking down to you, but saying old school RE games aren't survival horror is like saying Mario isn't Italian.
but i was never scared when zombies were after me i never felt frightened when my ammo was out. never felt like i had to survive the entire time i was playing it always just felt like an action game with limited ammo and zombies.
maybe im confused maybe i don't understand what survival horror is. either way i felt scare in silent hill and amnesia the dark descent.
The thing is: The earlier consoles did not have the power to achieve his vision, so he resorted to fixed camera tricks and jump scares when designing his game. The gamecube on the other hand allowed him more flexibility which, as a result, turned into the Biohazard series we know to date.
Most people don't tend to observe carefully, biohazard 4 wasn't successful simply because it was more "action-based", it was the fact the character had full control of himself and his surroundings: jumping through windows, climbing roofs, breaking through doors, etc etc. The character was more dynamic and fun to control as opposed to stop-n-gun/item management gameplay the original series was known from. To be honest, you could see the original mechanics age the longer the series progress. Heck, that management was utilized in AoTD. Sadly, the Biohazard series now is trying to repeat it's mistake again.
But then consider this factor, he did not intend Biohazard 5 the way it is now. Looking at Vanquish and SoTD, you can see that had he have his way, he might have changed the formula through next-gen consoles.
As of now, we can only see what he has in store for us in "Zwei". And if the mechanics truly have changed, you can see how much of a visionary he really was back then.
God I miss the old top down RE's. So much fun. I only like the RE now because you can play couch-co-op with a friend. Though it is a completely different game from the RE series. They should've really thought about calling it something different as soon as the over the shoulder view started.
I bet if you ask a lot of gamers what their first RE was they would end up saying 4. If you look at the older REs, which are some of the greatest games ever, the gameplay style is too slow for most gamers today.
Many people don't want to solve puzzles, find key cards, read police reports, and have the feeling of dread around them. RE also feels like it is starting to take its self too seriously now. Playing through 4 & 5 and seeing the trailers for 6, it just feels like it lost its campy charm from the first 3 games.
PS. i could give two S**ts if you disagree its the truth you hypocrites.

RE5 sounded better BEFORE they added co-op...if they went with their original idea it would of been amazing.

There are more examples... But basically EVERY Resident Evil has had rocket launchers... So I wholeheartedly disagree with your statement! :)

Get your facts straight before spouting nonsense on impulse.
some of the local people i have talked to have told me they always thought resident evil was just an action game.
