10 Ways to Ensure Success of the Xbox 720

From the PlanetXbox360.com feature article:

"With Nintendo’s Wii U just around the corner, I thought that it may be a good time to begin looking forward to the next Xbox’s launch. For one, when considering what Microsoft has done in the past (shortcomings and successes alike) it becomes a tad bit easier to form a picture of what they may be planning to unleash come fall 2013 (the time period I expect that the new console will hit shelves). Here’s a list of a few things Microsoft should do to ensure that the Xbox 360’s successor is not a flop." (Call of Duty 2, Condemned: Criminal Origins, EA, Microsoft, Next-Gen, Perfect Dark Zero, Rockstar Games, THQ, Ubisoft, Xbox 360)

Good list, for me it comes down to launch exclusives and price...

Big factor.

Really important in trying to draw in early adopters.

I'd like to have a way to put my old save data from my 360 onto the new consoles. Also to have my Xbox live account transferred too.

Sorry but that list sucks to me. For the most part a lot of things named are a given.

10. Don't call it the 720.
9.MS has never forgotten about the hardcore. That is a Sony fanboy lie. CoD, BF and most of the hardcore games that people actually buy are on the 360. And sales matter because it is a vote with your wallet.
8. No mass failures. Like that was on purpose. And before some idiot says they might rush it remember they started working on it back in '05.
7. Don't make the HD proprietary. That one is should be number one. Or maybe BC.
6. Don't have a bad launch line up. Does that really need to be said.
5. Don't just make a cheap PC. They have over 200 Computer Architects in-house. They aren't just buying off the shelf.
4. $699. Yes, you're right. That one also seems like a given.
3. MS spend a ton of money getting timed exclusives and they go out of their way to make their system easy to program for and to support developers with engineers.
2.I agree the hard drives need to be huge. TB huge.
1. Of all of the gaming companies MS has been the one to really push variety. A lot of the complaints has been that the 360 does too much. Looking at the leak and the announcements of Surface and Smartglass it seems they have not lost sight of how important it is to do many things.

But two out of ten isn't bad.

Games games and more games; the Xbox LIVE content is cool too but don't lose focus on the games...

It should JUST be about the games. I can do everything else on a rusty old laptop, I want my console to use every cent of its power on bringing me amazing gaming experiences.
dcbronco  +   615d ago
I want it to do as many things as possible. Having two separate CPU/GPU units makes it so that they don't interfere with each other. People need to get used to machines having many purposes. It the way it's going to be from now on.

1. Release it

Free online multiplayer. Bare bones Xbox Live Silver, with Internet Explorer and multiplayer for free. They can keep their chat and party and cross chat and cloud for Gold, I just wanna play online for free.

I agree with this!

Sony is on the verge of going out of business and people still demand a service that cost the company hundreds of millions a year to run for free. Cause and effect, folks.

But Sony did that to themselves.

I know, I know. You just want good games. And you only care about the games.

As long as it has some good launch games it will do o.k... I know for a fact that Just Cause 3 will be one of those titles.
eadycole  +   615d ago
The launch titles definitely have to be tight. Also, Microsoft does need to take plenty of time as to not release their product prematurely. There were VERY little Xbox 360s available upon the launch date. Not to mention the sloppy hardware and software designs. Very nice list, though.

Cheaper xbox live. I would like it to be free but I'm worried it might compromise the features and security it might have.
JOLLY1  +   615d ago
How much a month would you like it?
ReDDeaDDan  +   615d ago
You get what you pay for. Xbox Live is something that other devs should aim for and its worth every penny.
chrisarsenalsavart  +   615d ago
Make sure the hardware goes through all quality control check before being released.
I am a playstation fan but i must say my starwarsx360 is the coolest machine i ever owned.
And after 7 years of fanboys war,
I must confess, i cannot find to many bad things to say about xbox360.
Xbox720 And ps4 Day 1 purchase for me.
JOLLY1  +   615d ago
There sure is an Xbox hater shooting up the disagrees.....
SlapHappyJesus  +   615d ago
Oh well.

Like some ass disagreeing with everyone negatively effects the content of the posts themselves.

Let the kiddies have their fun. They will grow up one day . . .

1. Long lasting FUNCTIONAL hardware we don't want a repeat of the red ring.

2. Games, Games, and more Games.
ReDDeaDDan  +   615d ago
You contradicted yourself a few times during that list. The next Xbox needs to be for gamers, keep the third party support of the 360, ease up on the kinect, have a huge spec with a big price. We already know that a subscription payment plan is on the cards so the more spec/price the better. Personally as a gamer, I don't want an entertainment machine (they are ten a penny), I want an absolute powerhouse of a console that sweats the blood of hardcore gamers everywhere.
sugadaddy  +   614d ago
Number 7 will never happen. Sony, having seen MS' success here, will probably go with proprietary hard drives with their next console offering--it already happened with the Vita. Who doesn't enjoy paying $100+ dollars for something you could get for half the price?

Number 2 pretty much lumps in with the above. Oh joy! A hard drive that costs more than the console itself!

How about we ask for something nice instead? Like quit making people spend $50 a year just to play the games that they bought? Being forced to stare at an advertisement every time I start my 360 is fine but when I'm being forced to pay on top of that? Well know, ain't that just swell? Microsoft's ability to double dip and then turn around and convince gamers that paying for online is a "feature," an affordable one at that, is laughable.
