7 Reasons to own a Wii

Despite how you may feel about the Wii you cannot deny that it has been a success. As of March this year it has sold over 95 Million units, which is more than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, it introduced gaming to a larger, more mainstream audience and has helped push technology into new directions; can anyone say for certain that there wouldn’t be a Kinect or PlayStation Move if we didn’t have the Wii?

I do love some of the Nintendo Exclusives but my problem with the Wii was always the remote, I never liked it and that put me completely off. It has nothing to do with graphics when games like Zelda are on there. This is one of the reasons the Wii U appeals to me, sure you can still use the wiimote but you don't need to with the new tablet-controller so it's a win for me personally.

Eyup.

While it was supposed to be the wii's biggest draw, I felt the Wiimote actually hampered the experience of a number of games. Was still great for shooters, however.

Everything said and done, I've owned a fair number games for the system over the years, and I feel I got my money's worth, easily.

Yeah I agree, the good games that are out for it do make up for the crap that gets turned out! I always made sure to avoid anything of party games or mini game bundles!

I think for a lot of people it was the control that they couldn't get to grips with, I don't think the term waggle was ever used much before in game reviews.
What I like about these games is that they show that when used correctly and properly the Wii was/is a great console, it just got flooded with shovelware which meant people didnt see the gems hiding.

And several hundreds to do not.

If you are planning to buy the "no reasons", then you have a very wrong idea abut how to spend your money. Other consoles have bad games, too.

Despite what some say, the Wii has a great list of games to play, and the virtual console is amazing. The wii is cheap right now, and the games are cheap. Go pick one up!

Define "cheap" cause i would like to play some of the zelda and metroid games i missed...i haven't been keeping up with the current crop of games...but if i could find a wii for less than 100 bucks then i may hold off in getting a wiiU.

timbow19821445d ago

Not sure if it's the same in the US but in the Uk the Wii's are very low priced now, I picked up a second hand one for less than £100, I wanted to make sure it was an old style Wii so I could still play Gamecube games on it like Zelda: Wind Waker.

omarzy1445d ago

Gamestop in the US has them used for 80 dollars i believe, but i would hold off if you are getting a Wii U. The Wii U will play Wii games so it is a better option and the game will probably be even cheaper by then.

optimus1445d ago

@omarzy... That sounds like a good deal but i would like the backwards compatibility of the wii in order to play the zelda and metroid games of the gamecube. I didn't know the newer versions were not compatible.
I don't think the wiiU has compatibility with the gamecube, if it did then yes i would hold off and just get the wiiU cause i know it will have zelda and metroid games of it's own...but i would still like to play the older zeldas and metroids as i heard a lot of good things about them.
