Congrats to Microsoft. 19 straight months as the sales leader. Looks like Microsoft will have good momentum heading into next gen.

Price drop plus AAA 1st and 3rd party games will bring on the best year ever. Hell Internet Explorer with Kinect will sell the console.

Go out with a bang before xbox 720 MSFT might be thinking.

Internet explorer will sell the console?

Yes devices being able to connect to the web with a browser sell hardware lol. People also buy divices for Netflix, Blu-ray drive, web surfing.

It's such a wanted feature for multi room households to be able to surf the web on the big screen, HDTV makers are racing to support it.
Xbox will have on of the best non pc browsers but with voice and gesture control.

Kinect enabled Internet Explorer on the 52" HDTV in stereo will be a social casual surfing experience not seen before. Will be like a rebirth of kinect but for surfing. Webcam, skype, video chat etc etc

Disagree all you want but Tv makers noticed this and beat MSFT to the punch with MSFT's very own strengths hence HDTV makers starting to add kinect-like capability and web browsers.

Took MSFT long enough partnering way back with Sega and the Dreamcast.

Anything can happen. PS2 was huge all around the world, but the high price point of the PS3 destroyed any momentum it had. If Sony makes the PS4 have a competitive price point things could change. Sony also has to advertise the diverse amount of games too. They need to pull in sales from younger audiences for games like LBP, the hardcore audience with games like Killzone, and I think you know where I'm going with this. If they market it the right way and if the Xbox has the same problems it had this gen with RROD then the PS4 could be very successful.

I think both MS and Sony have learned their lessons this gen. Microsoft with the RROD and sony with their PS3 price/vita and other things. It does seem like sony has paid the bigger price so far with losing their U.S. market share. Things have to get better for sony in the next 6 to 9 months or the PS4 may be delayed a bit longer. Anything can happen but Microsoft has to be happy about where they are right now.

PS3 hardware did alright after PS2 hardware problems. Are you saying a late PS2 hardware revision last generation is good enough but a late 360 hardware revision this generation doesn't count and will threaten the generation after?

Never heard people worrying about PS3 before it came out because early PS2's.

When you consider the 360 hasn't had a price drop since 2009 and is still selling over 200k a month in north America alone going not its 8th year on the market, it seems the 360 is going strong. I expect a price cut at the time or just before the 720 announcement and will spark sales once again. Profits made from the 360 will carry over to the losses of the 720. Very similar to how the ps2 assisted in cushioning the ps3 cost which was priced at a loss like most consoles are marked as.....excluding the wii.
nukeitall  +   1275d ago
Yeah, I'm really wondering about that. The average selling price of the Xbox 360 is really high and they haven't had a price drop for 3-4 years while the competition each have had at least, some two and maybe a third one soon.

MS is definitely going for profit here and so does Nintendo it seems with the imminent release of Wii U and no price drop on Wii in sight.

M$ win in the U.S for sure, just like Sony wins in Japan and Europe. I don't see the PS3 overtaking the 360 in worldwide sales until M$ release the 720. Eventually though, Sony will equal, then pass 360. Its inevitable. Sony sell consoles in territories the 360 hasn't even heard of. The PS2 is still a great seller in India for example...

But by that point who will care other than Sony?
The fanboys will be busy fighting the 720 VS PS4 war at that point.

Sony winning in Europe is not true

I said they will tie late 2012, and so far it seems I'll be right. Each month the PS3 outsells the 360 globally by just enough...

The 360 and ps3 are pretty much tied. With under a 2 million difference, I am comfortable saying Sony has managed to eliminate the gap. However ms is strongest during holiday season and has not had a price decreas since 2009 so ms still hold a couple cards in this hand to play. It will be interesting to see which console maker comes out on top (excluding nintendo) at the end of this generation.

Either way I own both a 360 and ps3 and will buy day 1 a 720 and ps4.

With good sales for both Sony and MS I am pretty confident the game support will still be there from 1st and 3rd parties for both next gen and that is all that matters to me.

I also predicted it be so close, both sides will claim victory.

Yep, looks like it from all the disagrees.
nukeitall  +   1275d ago
Xbox 360 sells the strongest during holidays, because that is where there user base is. MS always post very strong numbers during the holidays.

Last year, during the holidays MS outsold the competition almost 2 million consoles worldwide without a price drop. That is like 180k consoles a month!

PS3 I doubt could close the gap by next gen. Not that it matters Ps3 and 360 are both great in their own right.
