GamersNexus: "If anyone really wanted to see the genesis of this series, they just had to look back to an older sci-fi title that let you "choose your path," as the tagline claimed. Casey Hudson first flexed his story muscles in the 2003 space RPG, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR). He was joined by Mass Effect Senior Writer Drew Karpyshyn (who also wrote parts of ME 2).
After careful story analysis of KOTOR and Mass Effect, we reveal that the two really are shockingly similar."
Naughty Dogs' Uncharted and The Last of Us share similarities (and will probably share more when we play LoU).
Valve's Half Life, Portal and Team Fortress share similarities.
Epic's Gears of War and Unreal Tournament share very close similarities.
The "legendary" id Software's Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake and Rage are all practically the same game re-skinned.
I could really keep going but I won't since I'm sure most people will get the idea. Everyone needs to slow-down this Bioware hate train before more people end up looking like idiots.
All these other companies did this and they haven't even tried to make up for their blatant rip off of gamers. Yet, for some odd reason gamers give them a pass, but Bioware must be the devil.
CD Projekt RED
/cough/cough
Really though, everyone knows this. It is especially so in the original, but the overall design and structure of the Mass Effect games maintained many similarities throughout the series.
They've dedicated an immense amount of time in creating a different universe. I think a bit of slack can be given to them retreading similar plot elements + archetypes that predate KOTOR by thousands of years.
I personally don't agree with that either.
