What is really nice about Xbox Live is MS is the only one on console or even when you include PC online services, that actually has a team of paid employees that moderate the online network.
They handle everything from cheating, abusive language, scammers, child related cases and banning of said users.
MS also tries to have Xbox ambassadors (read volunteers doing it for reward) that attempts to help others with practically any question. They are really trying to build a self good community.
They are the only one that puts that kind of resources into it.

There are two features you can use on Xbox Live that is extremely easy to use. They are:
1. Muting of individual gamers.
2. Muting everyone.
Not having a microphone would mean when you do want to communicate, most will not bother having bought one.
When I play Gears 3, we talk and we talk a lot and because of that we win a lot. It's a lot of fun and I only add people to my friends list that has a microphone. No microphone and no communication, is no friend!

Party chat makes it soo easy to get a game going among friends. You can just stay in the group until a spot opens up or until everyone is ready. Anyone that has tried scheduling a game with a team of people knows how valuable party chat is.
i love sony i really do but i think they make stupid decisions most of the time, they said that they want to sell a lot of vits by the end of the year yet they dont have a lot of games for it yet and refuse to drop the price, im really afraid for the vita cause its the perfect handheld, it just need more games
This is not going to work, me and I am sure many others mute everybody even if they don't talk so if they get muted enough they automatically cant talk to people in a game. They spend $60 a year to get a experience that can be taken away. It may sound good on paper, but in reality this will not work.

My boyfriend who I share a flat with owns one. He also has his own Ps3. I don't have an xbox live account. In fact I don't touch the xbox.
I tinkered with it a few times...didn't like the community much. Bought a Ps3.
But I know that complaining about nasty racist bigots to microsoft does diddlysquat.
It's pleasing to hear they are finally doing something to address the issue.
