I’m back again, just a different game. This time, Sonic the Hedgehog. I think we can all agree that there are a ton of things that need fixing, but I’m only going to tackle five points. Some of them are very important, while others are just little things that make zero sense to me. Enjoy!
Just do that again and everything will be fine.
2D, sprite-based, great music, fantastic gameplay.
Sonic 1 and 2 were PERFECT Sonic games. After that it just kinda got off-track.
There's that stunning looking Sonic HD Remix that had a brilliant demo a while ago. I wish Sega would hire THAT guy.

(I'll try and stick to the mainstream/canon titles.)
Sonic 1 - Great.
Sonic 2 - Incredible.
Sonic 3 - Phenomenal.
Sonic & Knuckles - Awesome
Sonic 3 & Knuckles - The epitome of Sonic's greatness, the greatest Sonic title, IMO. (When you hooked Sonic 3 up with Sonic & Knuckles)
Sonic 3D Blast - Fun, but many found it so-so.
Sonic Adventure - Terrific.
Sonic Adventure 2 - Very cool, very fun.
Sonic Heroes - THIS IS WHERE THINGS WENT BAD.
Sega never got back on track after Sonic Heroes. So while the Genesis titles were by far the BEST, things didn't really get bad until Sonic Heroes.
I still play the original Genesis titles on my PSP during my breaks at work all the time. They just NEVER lose their ability to be fun. I couldn't tell you how many times I've beaten the Genesis titles.
Nintendo can bring Sonic back to its glory days - something about Nintendo and platformers...its like the invented the genre
Other than that, everything else in this article has been stated before. In fact, it was stated during the Sonic 06/Unleashed era. I think Sonic's doing pretty well now, better than he's been in a long time at least.
...but the 3D levels were only 'OK'. There was certainly a preference for the 2D levels.
Step 2: Go back to retro 2D gameplay... like Mega Man 9 and 10.
Step 3: ????
Step 4: Profit
Step 5: Repeat as necessary...
I like your idea but I for one do not want to play another sonic game only in 2-D.
What sonic needs, is his entourage cast as playable characters. I feel like we need to know more about the rest of the group and why they're on the adventure.
don't be afraid to add rpg elements to the game, having rpg elements to an action adventure game always work wonders.
Choa garden! this will single handly bring sonic back to many hearts, and what more can you say.
NO! I loved him because of the clever level designs, reflexes and building momentum to reach top speed, like it was in 1 and 2.
... I don't want to go on a 2D or 3D rollercoaster if I hardly have to control him.
Sonic 1 and 2 had that perfect blend of fantastic level-design mixed with some cool short 'fast' section where you could 'flow' into a nice speed.
It was kinda ruined with Sonic 3 and/or Sonic and Knuckles, where Sonic would suddenly grab something and you would stop dead in your tracks hanging onto a vine or whatever. Very annoying.
