"Capcom’s always stuffed Resident Evil chock-full of unlockable goodies, though out of all the extra content jammed into each release, nothing has quite carried the same clout as The Mercenaries. Since its inception in 1999’s Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, this action-focused mini-game has remained a series staple. The mode eschews the exploration and riddle-solving components of the main story, instead focusing on unrestrained gun battles as players seek to rake in the high-score by vanquishing as many B.O.W.s as possible. Its addictive combo-based gameplay remains incredibly satisfying, lending it that ‘just one more go’ mentality that’ll keep you plugging away until the early hours."

"What about me? Stranger."
Now you're probably scratching your head at why I decided to say that as my response.
Well, like it or not, all of these choices have either already been in past Mercenaries modes, or they would not work in Mercenaries what so ever.
I used to play RE5's Mercenaries practically on a competitive level daily for the first year then every bit here and there since then, but always played for the highest score and the most pro-effective way about going about it.
And I enjoyed it so much, and it was my favorite thing to do in RE 5. Same thing with RE 4 as well, but not as much.
Wesker has been in the past 3 Mercenaries modes, and he is a fantastic character. However, just like Jill unfortunately, (and I love Jill's character btw) but they have no place in this game.
Rebecca and Barry were only included in RE 5's Merc mode because:
A) they had a connection to the Chris/Jill/Wesker plotline/history
B) We all wanted to see them in Mercenaries again, since they have yet since to be in any other game, minus rail-shooters and a spin-off here or there.
I think RE 6's Mercenaries should be unique and make sense at the same time. You have to look at this mode like a fighting game fan would.
Each character has his/her own move set, and they all have their strengths and weaknesses. And I LOVED that with the past Mercenaries experiences.
It had a lot of depth and strategy to it. And with it, a necessary amount of knowledge, skill and experience.
Not only that, but you could choose between co-op and solo runs.
As for Claire, she's already been in a Mercenaries game. A shitty one at that, but still a game. And her character's move-set sucked ass. She was a poorly designed character for that game.
And that's not a bash against Claire as a a character, just the fact that she was pretty useless and her melee attacks were pathetic compared to the one hit wonders and killing machines on the rosters.
If they do happen to include Claire as DLC or some shit. Make her a proper, worthy character on that roster worth using. Not just there for fans to play and perform awfully as. Be creative and make her a fun character.
Wesker's just overpowered and we need a new character for the pros to always play as in my opinion.
