WC writes: Naughty Dog’s latest work on the much loved Uncharted franchise was one of the most critically successful games of 2011, not to mention the immense for a console exclusive. While Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception blew us away with its characters, story telling, graphics, sound and pretty much every technical aspect, it did let a lot of fans, myself included, down in a few major ways.
Be warned, this article contains spoilers.
It has the best graphics on consoles and most pc games
It has the best animations on consoles
It has amazing gameplay
Uncharted 2 looks better
Uncharted 2 has better animations and gameplay
The only reason Uncharted 3 is a let down is because of how high Uncharted 2 set the standard
uncharted2 set the bar too high and in order for uncharted3 to surpass uncharted2, uncharted3 had to be release on ps4....
if you ask me uncharted 3 should had been released this year. I think uncharted 3 was released too early especially after the uncharted2 taking home soo many awards.
N....no. As gorgeous as Uncharted 2 was, Uncharted 3 did surpass it slightly.
The delusion is stronger than I thought.
crappy let downs
Here are 2 others:
*Added more boosters (as far as I can remember compared to UC2) - They are lame and anti-competitive, especially those bonus ones with like 800 grenades and stupid crap like that; shouldn't be in Competitive gameplay. Put it as optional in custom matches if you want.
*"Objectives" mode has rounds of Team Deathmatch. Wtf is that? You play objectives for the objective and to escape mindless killing. It also has 'Capture the Zones' rounds which is again just localized TDM.
Plunder is an objective. If they want a 'zones' match, you should actually have to do something to capture it besides standing in a box. Something like Resistance Fall of Man's Meltdown where you have to shoot out the rod in the node to capture that 'zone'.
Game is great overall either way though, the things I listed just made me lose interest in the multiplayer pretty quickly. Still good MP-wise, just not that competitive and I prefer competitive, not BS powerups and similar nonsense.
Graphically, UC2 does look better. UC3's graphics got a downgrade after E3 due to the implementation of 3D. An example: Chloe talking to Drake on the bus.
Proof: http://gamingbolt.com/uncha...
I even took comparison pics from UC2 and 3 of Chloe.
As for the animations, they're the same, but UC2's gameplay is better. They even had to patch the controls in UC3 because it didn't feel right.
UC2>UC3. Still, UC3 is an awesome game.
WTF are you smoking? The desert in UC3 is one of the most photorealistic and spectacular environment created in a console game.
Just platted it the other day, but I doubt I'll ever play the single player again.
U3>U2>>>>U IMO And not to mention the first one was AMAZING!
Leave it to Naughty Dog to create 2 almost perfect games that it literally splits the fanbase in half Lol.
Poor writing.
However, I agree with point 2 - the man and chloe just disappear mid-way through the game. I enjoyed the dynamic they both brought to the group.
Uncharted 2 was like Dark Knight, Amazing, epic, and a Genre defining experience.
Uncharted 3 is like The Dark Knight Rises, Flipping Awesome, Epic, but couldn't quite meet the awesomeness of the previous title.
Last week was the first time I saw a Christopher Nolan batman movie actually and it was unreal! I had no expectations tbh because I always thought those super hero movies were bullshit. I don't think that anymore.
Well as long as they're well produced that is ;D
If ND was a PC dev, they would work wonders... but they are a console dev, and the are making the best of it despite the limitations
So jog off with the PC games look better because we know... and no one said it was the best looking game of all time... but a testament of what a great dev can do with old hardware
Edit: Sorry, I though you were replying to DCboy, not morigan , but what i said still stands
If Uncharted were at the standard 1080p 60fps, then it would look better than most PC games if not all. The animation is already top notch for the industry.
I'm a PC gamer and can easily see this. credit where credit is due..
Why you guys are always over exaggerating things so much?
A large portion of 3rd party games on the PC look better than most 1ST party games on the PS3 or Xbox360.
Small Indie games on the PC do not look as good as Uncharted 3. That's a given.
Major titles however on the PC look better and some like Crysis 2 and BF3 and Metro 2033 for example use all real time effects that the PS3 and the Xbox360 in most cases are incapable of rendering running at stable frame rates.
You seperated 3 reasons, onto 3 seperate pages? I have had enough of this site, and its nonsense
Also, haven't these plot holes been addressed?
Sure I agree that they underused characters and the marketing spoiled a lot of the game... but why do people keep writing these articles, months after the game came out
Sure U3 was not as good as U2 in my opinion, but its still an excellent game... are people just upset it couldn't live up to U2?
Its like Zelda all over again, with people complaining the game won't live up to ocarina
lol...seriously,.....pc games from 2005 look better than uncharted 3, and then 2007, crysis, c'mon kid, i know you love the game, but crysis, dx10, 1080p, lol.....you'll be lucky if ps4 looks that good, uncharted 3 is a great game and looks good for something running on 8 year old hardware, but any AAA pc game maxed out in high resolution with Anti aliasing makes uncharted 3 look last gen.\\
also, uncharted 2 did look better, uncharted 3 took a big hit in image quality with ND wasting time on 3d, uc3 has way, WAY too many jaggies, uncharted 2 looked much better, more polished, better animations and, most importantly, told a much better story, part 3 was too drama-ish, playing as young drake was the most BORING time i've ever had in an uncharted game!
Although I do agree that that uncharted 2 did look more polished then 3 mainly in the multiplayer's animations, likely because first-party devs were not being forced to implement 3d support at that time.
"It has the best graphics on consoles and most pc games"
No, just simply NO, i dont game on pc and prefer consoles, but i will admit the answer is NO. BIG FAT NO.
And in case you want to argue about it, it wont change anything it's still NO.
I don't want another UC game till ps4 just give it rest and make the best UC game possible.
Last of us in fall 2013 most likely means no UC game till 2014 and we know ND have 2 teams so the other team has to be working on something, I am not against the fact that 2 ND games cane come out in same year but I don't think it will happen
no sp-bonuses
still a good game...but a little dissapointing in comparison to UC2 (one of the best games this gen!!!)
It was still a great game, but not on the level of the previous ones.
The secound point I do not agree with as it isn't a Nate and co story but more of a story about Nate's selfishness and down right recklessness and despite this his mentor and friend, sully, sticks with him. It was never a story about the rest of the cast which I thought worked very well.
The Third is interesting because you have no idea what the story is so the trailer isn't spoiler filled until you have finished the game
I liked uncharted 3. I thought is was a decent, enjoyable single player. The multiplayer felt a bit odd and not right.
Too put it into perspective, I love all Halo games. but they havn't made one better than Halo 1 IMO.
And resistance, I thought the first was the best for the same reason I think the first Gears is the best (More dark and gritty).
This article was not really necessary, it was only here so a flame war could start. If UC3 didn't get an above 90 meta score, then maybe. But as It stands, it is still one of the elite titles this gen, the only game I can think of that has an awesome SP and MP.
"Unforgivable plot holes" =/= multiple dues ex machinas that you believe were out of place. The routine escapes Drake (and co) pulled in 3 have been used quite often in stories.
That part basically ruined the amazing desert scene for me.
As I said, what bothered me about this particular moment is that Nate walked across the Rub' al Khali desert, a desert where the average temperature is 117 °F, for days with absolutely no food, no water and hardly any shade, except for whenever he would find the occasional rock.
The game made you well aware that Nate was on the verge of death by the time he reached that abandoned village. Having to play those moments of Nate walking showed how much abuse the desert gave him, from mirages, to walking in circles, to Nate giving up hope.
After such a powerful and mentally draining moment in the game, the game immediately makes you have to fight dozens of mercenaries, all while Nate is still dehydrated and drained of all of his energy. THAT is what killed the moment for me.
And it's all only just a video game, so it should get a pass on that :)
Well... Sony did actually advertise Uncharted 3 alot and it's sitting at 4.6 million copies sold world wide. It sold alot faster than Uncharted 2 did.
But then it's his opinion :) I also liked Uncharted 2 better, but 3 is still awesome.
The biggest setpieces
The chateau
The Plane
The Desert
The Ship
They were all spoiled due to marketing
uncharted 3 multiplayer is a joke.
uncharted 3 coop is real good
the campaign was easily the worst of the 3
dont get me wrong,
the action and gameplay is probably the best in the series, but everything else about the campaign especially the story fell flat for me
also, in multiplayer, especially coop, IT IS DAMN NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ALL THE TREASURES FOR THE SKINS!!!
it felt like an absolute chore after replayin the same coop missions for the 100th time. Drop rates need to increase astronomically
the action and gameplay is probably the best in the series, but everything else about the campaign especially the story fell flat for me"
couldn't have said it better!!!
Uncharted 2 just set the bar so high, Uncharted 3 felt inferior. Uncharted 3 is a great game, but people seem to only look at its flaws because of UC2.
The 2 reasons Uncharted 3 had less detailed models was the inclusion of 3d, if Naughty Dog didn't have to worry about 3d then Uncharted 3 may as well look like a pc game rather than what it looks like now.
The other reason is after Uncharted 2 was developed. Naughty Dog split into two teams one developed the last of us and the other developed uncharted 3. If they had their unified development team uncharted 3 would be a lot better.
In my opinion Uncharted 2 was highly superior in terms of story and graphics to 3, I was extremely turned off when I saw Chloe and Elena in Uncharted 3 expecting them to look like they do in the trailer, but actually having them look worse than Uncharted 2.
#My2cents
*slowly walks away from Knuckles disagrees.....
Uncharted 3 is one of the greatest games i have ever played.
Personal opinions are not withstanding, both are excellent games and you'd be a fool to miss out on any of them.
Uncharted 3 was shallow and predictable. Uncharted 2 felt a lot more fresh than 1 but 3 felt more of the same to be honest.
uncharted 2 - the empire strikes back. uncharted 3 - the return of the jedi. the empire strikes back was the best film of the star wars trilogy. the empire strikes back had a better story line than the return of the jedi.
Uncharted 3 as a game was still as good as Uncharted 2, just not as much better as some people expected.
