Please shut up. You don't see anyone complaining about violence in movies or TV, yet they cry about games. Even though games have a rating system and consoles can lock kids out from playing the mature rated games that their idiotic, illiterate parents weren't supposed to buy them.
I agree completely, I dont understand why videogames get all the bad press, when movies have the same, if not more intense violence than games do, which if we go by the arguement that photorealism makes violent games even worse would mean that movies can be far worse, simply due to the fact that most of them are live action. You cannot get closer to photorealistic than actual people.
Not just that the violence in movies is more believable due to the fact, you're talking living breathing human being as opposed to cartoon or cgi animated characters! The media in general would have people believe that the masses can not differentiate the difference of real and make believe!
And for those that are influence by video games, movies and or music, there was something wrong with them to begin with! For everything that goes wrong in this world, there will always be a scapegoat to lay the blame on.
And oh how convenient for him leave star wars out of the generalisations! You are shooting people aren't you? /s
Violence is violence, there is no middle ground or degree! How would it sound to you if someone said I was a little violent today?
Oh yeah sure this guy has NOOOOO problems letting people into a two hour long film knowing Jar Jar fucking Binks is floating around in it but a star wars game featuring bounty hunters isn't allowed to be gory? Didn't George Lucas pretty much make all his money off films that are huge tributes to pulp fiction and genre pieces, which in turn often used nudity and gore as a pulling point?
Ultra-violence is awesome. I would rather watch clockwork orange on a come down than see Hayden Christensen "act" out George Lucas' "dialogue".
Yeah but if the user is an adult, on an adult rated game, then so what? Welcome to the free world, my friend. The same free world that countless men had to fight in wars (wars filled with gore, blood, murder, and chaos), so that you can CONTINUE to live in a world of free will. I'll never let any government tell me what content is or isnt okay in my games. I'll make that decision myself, and if the game goes too far, then I'll debate it, speak out against it and not buy it, BUT I'll NEVER advocate for it to be banned, because we live in a free world-,and just because I don't like it, doesn't mean we should open up the path to more censorship. The only thing that I'd draw the line on is anything depicting the rape (of any age or gender) or murder of children (especially if depicted as a "positive thing"). but that's not hypocritical of me to be biased against that because most forms of entertainment refuse to cross that line as well--It's like an unspoken rule that that is where the line should be drawn.
Well if you think people's games are too violent, feel free to set an example and stick a few Jar Jars in your games and go see how well that works for you.
Why is it that when directors make brutally violent movies it's considered an artistic vision but when games do it, it's just gratuitous violence?
Come back to me when you actually make an egaging game series with a character who isnt the biggest phaggot in the galaxy, with actual depth to the gameplay, actual interactions with characters and the environment etc etc.
Until then you have unimpressed me with your theatrical George Lucas showcase graphic whore masturbation material, 1313 looks far to much like a game trying very very hard to be a film.
Get some credibility before you start bashing other studios.
“I've learned that people will forget what you said and people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” - Maya Angelou
I think people forget this in the gaming industry. Don't bite the hand that feeds, man. These people see something like this and they switch off. Once they associate a game with something they don't like, they may never buy it.
It's like everyone is piggy backing of Warren Specter comment, before he made his comment no one really cared about ultra violence but all of a sudden now it's a problem.
What a pile of crap seriously, how can u tell a story that involves life or death combat, big scale warfare & survival w/o showing any violence, gore & a few deaths here & there? & even if some1 do something like that how realistic & immersive it will be?
Lucas Arts better decide now if they want to make a game for adults or for little kids, or try to appeal to all ages & in the end loose both, there is no other option the same way there is no way to make a game like TLOU w/o the use of extremely violent scenes.
Their comments (both him and Kim) will be blasted on sites like N4G as you can see. No discussion really about what was said just Jar-Jar jokes and justifications that are irrelevant to the point. Not to mention The Last of Us was mentioned and you can't say anytying bad about that, especially on N4G.
The Star Wars 1313 trailer was far more interesting and impressive than all the examples they talked about imo. I have my eye on that but I too found myself thinking, "man this is a really visceral E3" and not in a good way. Take that and compare it to the average comment/attitude/mentality of todays gamer and I'd have to agree. There is a place for violence in games, that is true. But, the willingness to dismiss any criticism of said violence and launch into emotional gibberish that has no real baring is all too typical and a bit sad.
So apparently a big chunk of the people holding the industry from crumbling are psychopaths? Star Wars 1313 could be a glorified tech demo for all we know. Look at their recent work they're nothing short of being visually pretty but end up being flawed, so Lucas Arts, when you make your mark in the gaming industry then you can talk.

Heck we dont even know if the game is any good

If it was just mature and no gore, screw this star wars game. Dont want my most powerful weapon in the game to knock enemies out for 24 hours.
Not so much a " creative director," are you?

I only watched because I was a Star wars fan...You didn't really get any new fans from Illiterate Vader and Jar Jar Binks....
Just saying
