I always thought that Mafia II got a rough deal from a lot of people. Once you'd accepted that it wasn't really the sort of open world game we've come to expect, there were moments of real beauty in there. More so than any other open world game I've come across.
They might only have been semi-scripted events (things like struggling to walk in the snow), but the people in Mafia II were real, more than just a set of spoken lines played randomly as you drive around. You might not have been able to go bowling or to the gym, but I finished totally pulled in by that world.
problem was is that for game be touted as a gta competitor it was lackluster. its too short and little to no replay-ability at all. characters were very cliche to say the least. i expected more and im sorry but there is more to gta then going to the gym and going bowling. its pretty sad when last gen games like GTA III, VC, & SA have more content than a current gen game.
@TheMasterShake- " its pretty sad when last gen games like GTA III, VC, & SA have more content than a current gen game."
Its sad that the hardware the game released on was gimped ie 360's DVD9.
Games like GTAIII, VC and SA has tons of space to make there games on. GTA's took like 5.2gigs last gen (the max) this gen GTAIV was 6.8gigs. Now tell me, with such a small increase and plus going into HD how can one make a open world game with the amount of content that a GTA III, VC or SA had with THE SAME SPACE GTA III, VC or SA had?
This is my point. I truly think 2K did a good job on Mafia II and there team worked really hard JUST like Rockstar's teams work hard for theres, but any gripes based on "lack of content" shouldn't be heard by Rockstar or 2K, they don't have the hardware space to do such a thing because of MS DVD9, they are trying to make money and just can't make a PC/PS3 exclusive just to use PC's installs and Bluray.
Next gen I believe MS will be adapting Bluray (its not like they have really any other choice)
I'm a HUGE GTA fan and i feel you 100% on this one. Your not the only one thats noticed that about not only this game, but almost every open world game this gen. You have that feeling of wanting more and your right to. This gen should had NEVER been 6.8 gig or 7.8 gigs, last gen was that, it should had been 25, 50, 100gigs etc.
Just to note too, LA Noire, Max Payne 3 and a handfull of other games on Steam take up 35GB's or more. Imagine what space is needed for a full blown GTASA type sequel with not only more content but the same that was in GTASA. Thats the type of space needed for a true sequel.
Maybe Nintendo? Are you in coma? Just to keep you updated: -Nintendo is gonna release a next gen console this year. -Sony and Microsoft will probably release a next gen console next year. -Nintendo's new console will use a tablet like controller called WiiU Gamepad, and it will also have a standard controller called Pro Controller. -They announced Pikmin 3 and New Super Mario Bros U for the console. There is also a game called "ZombiU" which looks good and has some good elements for the survival horror genre.
I hope I can help you with those info, but I think you need to read some sites because you probably missed a lot of good stuff about Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. Must be a pain to be in coma.
But hes right to say such a thing. Wii U at this point is only Next Gen by name only.
Its clear its not getting those main ips from 3rd party developer. ie Assassins Creed, Mass Effect, GTA, Red Dead, Mafia II, etc. The list goes on and on and on.
One would have to be stupid as hell to really think that the Wii U would get this game. The Wii U IS A CURRENT GEN SYSTEM in terms of tech anyway.
Wii came out this gen.....might i also add IT DIDN'T GET THE SAME IPS THAT PC, PS3 AND 360 GOT!
???? Why would Next Gen be any different? LMFAO! So the jokes of Wii U being current gen have to do with the fact that the Wii didn't get ANY of the same games the PS3 and 360 got, 3rd parties pretty much kept there main ips on PC, PS3 and 360. This is where the joke is coming from.
Again...Wii is current gen.....didn't get the same games PC, PS3 and 360 got so i really don't know why it being called Next gen to you really matters LOL! It won't get Mafia III so.....
You clearly has inside info, leaked specs for all the 3 consoles or at least a crystal ball/time machine. Good for you. I don't have inside info o leaked specs, so I won't be stupid enough/ignorant to say the WiiU isn't a "true next gen".
Hopefully theyll add grass to Playstation version this time, i cant believe we had so many cutbacks on the PS3 version of Mafia 2, the game was alright aswel, loved the music, i liked the part early on where your walking to your house with you suitcase, in the snow
i thought itll be a little more violent, again, cut from the PS3 version, no blood holes when you shoot people for example
Despite what anyone may say, Mafia 2 was one of my favorite games of the last few years. Without a doubt one of the best stories Ive come across as well.
I think the important thing to remember was that the game was marketed as an open world game, which it really wasnt. Once I was able to accept Mafia for what it was rather than what I wanted it to be I found it be an amazing experience.
As far as Im concerned, Mafia 3 will be a day one purchase for me.
I enjoyed Mafia 2 What I can't wait for is the graphics comparisons lol, LENSOFTRUTH-"the PS4 has 1 more pixel in the grass model while the 720 has a better ear wax model

Mafia 2 was a good game, but the first one was so much better when it came to gameplay.
bubbles for now making me day dream!
I've always been thinking about a GTA based in that time after i played the first Mafia lol.
