US 3DS sales double Vita's total in July - analysts
CVG writes: Game industry analysts have weighed in with US hardware and software sales predictions for the month of July, ahead of the NPD Group's release of official market data later this week.
(3DS, Nintendo DS, PS Vita, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, Xbox 360)
The sales for the Nintendo 3DS entertainment system have been extremely positive as of late. Completely shattering records, and expectations from our fellow Elite gamers and bloggers worldwide. It comes as no surprise that these types of hopes and expectation are beginning to trend through the community.
Nintendo continues to evolve the Nintendo 3DS entertainment system. While at the same time simultaneously releasing wave after wave of AAA quality Nintendo caliber exclusive titles at strategic times for the consumers gaming pleasure.
I am very much looking forward for the predicted USA results on the sales charts when released for the Elite supporter.
They think that the Vita sold - 60,000 (n/a) / 61,000 (n/a) last month. Wonder what's causing the bump? I know a big title for the 3DS just came out.
They also think that the 360 will sell 200K units (That would be down by as much as 28%). The PS3 would get a 3% bump if it sells 150K as expected. The Ps3 has really been selling pretty close to the 360 in the US this year (Only 40-50k difference which the PS3 makes up in Japan alone). A price cut on Sony's new slim would make things interesting.
Edit: Wow, 2 disagrees instantly for just reporting back what the journalists predicted.
I love both Vita and 3DS, i friggin love the 3DS but its kinda sad people are forgetting the Vita being so powerful, you can say anything about Vita and 3DS but you have to admit Vitas capabilities far exceed 3DS and people arent taking advantage of that to much...MH4 looks cool but would be awesome and probably better on Vita, mainly because i dont think the 3D part of MH will intrest me. Do you want MOAR hard core games on 3DS then say =DDDDDDD because most of the hardcore games are on Vita...although Super mario 3D land is a friggin blast and RE: revelations
its weird people call you a troll though...
you never bash or say negative things about any other console
and you dont go to other topics unrelated to nintendo and start bashing
He actually did quite a fair bit of Sony bashing before he took on the Nintendo persona (To counter those WW charts where the PS3 would lead. He started concentrating on the 3DS vs Vita beef to get people off that subject. He even admitted to not owning a 3DS or Wii not to long ago as well).
He did a little bit today infact (Check out the failed articles agree/disagree report comments in the fail section). Sent me a angry PM about our reports too. XD
hopefully this means a vita price drop will be coming soon. they've probably scooped up the majority of the early adopters already. time to get the next tier of consumers.
I spoke with a Sony rep (I know this doesn't mean it's entirely credible since they are just a rep) at a store I work at the other day. I asked him about the possibility of a price drop. He said that he doesn't see one happening because they are selling the Vita at cost, but instead we should start to see more bundles (similar to the ACIII one coming out later this year).
So if he knows what he's talking about, we might not see a price drop on the system for a while.
i thought they were selling it at a slight profit. maybe i am confused with the 3ds, but i thought i read that around the time it came out. does anyone have the numbers on this?
also, let's say they were selling it a cost when they first released it; as production cycles advance, usually they come up with cheaper ways to make the product, thus lowering their costs. i'd think they'd be getting close to that point by now.
good for 3ds I can't put it down.between trying to code my own game with petit computer and playing hero's of ruin, and watching dinosaur office and the great 3d 3net short clips I'm always on this thing.
not to mention all the great virtual console gameboy and gamegear Games it keeps me to busy!
Only a fool would say, the "Vita is in big trouble." Then end it off as, "Great tech though."
Don't you have anything better say? You don't work for Sony and you can't see the future, cut down on the acid man, when did you suddenly grow a third ball?
She's a beauty. You can tell she's going to grow up being a serious contender to the world with a bright future. How is this going to happen? It's called time.
You can give the Vita all the time in the world but if Sony don't give it the focus it deserves (and i don't expect them to) then it's a lost cause.
Sony need to do more than just offer Vita versions of upcoming PS3 games. They need to convince devs that the Vita is the handheld they should be making games for.
Marketing wise, they need to shove it down peoples throats (not literally) and there will need to be price cuts- whether they like it or not.
The Vita has so much potential, but Sony seem to be wasting it.
Sony should learn from their mistakes. History shows that powerful handhelds do not sell well.
Sony keeps releasing expensive and powerful handhelds but dont make any profit.
Sony should know by now that handhelds are not for Hardcore gaming. Great graphics and powerful processing power are unnecessary. Handheld gaming is for simple gameplay and for enjoyment.
Great Graphics and technology should be reserved for Consoles only. It is clear fact by now .
I hate to say it but Sony should look at how Nintendo operate
Last i heard the PSP had sold over 60 Million, so it wasnt as much of a failure as you are making out.
Where it failed Sony was being so easily hacked, something the DS also suffered from.
Where Sony failed the PSP was the propritry memory cards being way too expensive, lack of marketing and advertising, and as NoGunz said above, lack of selling it as a platform of choice for developers.
So they have learned in some respects, and failed again in others.
I'm getting mine later this month hopefully and a raft of cheap gaming bargains (already bought a few off the PS Store over last few months). It hasn't even been out over an x-mas holiday period in europe yet, so i wouldn't say its failed.
I'm still playing my PSP just now and use it as my main media player on the go
Love my vita. Just went back to finishing res burning sky and im amazed at how they put that fps game that plays like a console fps in that little handheld. Burning skys got harsh reviews but idk why because the game is solid to me and looks good besides some of the repetitive looking areas and character faces.
My son deleted all of my unit 13 stats and info smh and i was almost done so now i have to restart that which i don't mind because that game is really good.
I also own mvc which is the better handheld version and a few other games i enjoy.
But hey 3ds does good they have franchises ppl still want and not only that it is cheaper by a good amount especially when you consider memory cards of course it will sell alot more. Same was the situation with Ps3 but we know how that went after price drops.
Kid say's: mommy i want a handheld video game sysytem.
Mom goes to see whats available. A 100 dollar 3ds with boatloads of games or a ps vita for 300 dollars that has only a handfull of games.
Really in this economy, what did they think would happen. They really should have released it with some system seller games you know a COD or a FF game, something with a big die hard following.
Soul Sacrifice & AC liberation is all i need to know.. Id buy a vita again even if those were the only 2 games it ever got.. Its a beautiful machine & so damn underrated by ppl.. I know sony has a price drop planned around holiday time to combat wii u as well as the super slim PS3 w a lower price.. 3DS is cool cuz of the nintendo games on it so im getting the XL as well.. I dont give a damn what sells more but i have to say that vita is in a whole other league than 3ds & with a price drop & more software, it will definitely grow in sales
Why get mad or be surprised that this is happening? The 3DS now has two models and is priced reasonably for the core and general public. The Vita is also priced good for what kind of tech it has available, but the price-tag isn't as friendly for the general public, just the diehard fans. If people think that one or two pieces of software will change this, good for them! I disagree and believe that it will take a combination of both a price drop, and more software; anything short of that will not really change the way things are going for Vita.
The 3DS may not be a major leap, in terms of graphical power, but it sure is a big leap from the original DS. I have been quite content with it and am actually considering getting an 3DSXL. I will also purchase a Vita in the future, once it has a more accessible price with the system and memory cards. It is after all a handheld, not a home console. I'm just glad that the handheld market isn't dead!
I totally agree - there was an article a few weeks ago about the risks of being an early adopter - the 3ds had the same issues as the Vita when it started (overpriced and no games worth mentioning) - I bought mine about 6 months later, was able to benefit from the price drop AND the ambassador program, and have been a happy camper ever since! I sure am getting an XL as soon as it's out.
I just hope the Vita is going to know a similar path: price drop + better games, hopefully any time soon!!! I don't own one, but I sure know how much of a technological gaming marvel it is - it's just not backed by enough games yet... And it still needs the PSOne compatibility... I can't wait tho!
I agree. People can't possibly expect that- especially in this economy- folks would be out buying $300 systems for their kids instead of one that costs less than $200.
Instead of how the 3DS did against the Vita, which is still essentially a newborn, I'd like to see how the 3DS did against itself over the same month last year.
I think Sony suffer at times from always chasing the premium market. The price of their TV's are always higher than competitors equivalent units, and the same can be said about their consoles.
But i'd rather take their products that aim sometimes way too high and don't reach their full potential, than playing it safe.
I'm buying my Vita as an all round portable media device (music and video) to replace my PSP 1000, just sorry that it doesn't have a TV out feature like the later PSP models
For the first time in I don't know how long, there have been some really great comments here. That's what N4G needs all of the time, not once in a blue moon...
Anyway, I think with enough push during conferences that are coming up AND exclusives that aren't just console games ported with maybe one or two changes, then the Vita can start to sell well, especially during the Christmas-season rush at stores...
But if Sony just lets the Vita on the path that it is following, then it might be too late to do anything. It will be a dark day if that happens...

Very positive 3DS numbers, though it is at a sweeter price point than the Vita so to be expected
So if he knows what he's talking about, we might not see a price drop on the system for a while.

It's nice hardware but still selling poorly. Obviously the thing needs more games or something.
What's so hard to understand?
She's a beauty. You can tell she's going to grow up being a serious contender to the world with a bright future. How is this going to happen? It's called time.

Time to play the waiting game.
Either more decent software comes ASAP to the VITA or another 50 dollar gift card from retailers.
VITA Potential < Current Implementations (software).
Eh it's all subjective. So numbers should do the talking for now.

so it doesn't appear that they're selling it at a loss.
