Guide to Hardcore PlayStation 3 Accessories

Softpedia writes:

"The PlayStation 3 had a rough start and even now it's not really standing on its own. If the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the Wii console from Nintendo are slowly and surely building a consolidated market base, the PS3 has yet to prove itself. All the other big boys on the market already have a bunch of accessories ready to enhance the experience, and we thought it's time to see what are the latest gadgets for Sony's latest PlayStation. Unlike Microsoft and Nintendo that have a consistent stock of their own accessories, the PS3 is lacking in this department, leaving the job to third-party manufacturers. This is the main reason why 90% of the stuff you're about to see is not from Sony. I'll let you decide if that's a good thing or not. On the other hand, there are a lot of cables and other boring stuff (like slightly different controllers) that hold no interest, so we're only going to list the coolest stuff."

Hardcore? pointless more like.

blacsheep3608d ago

stupid article,'even now ps3's not standing on its own?'

i hate articles written by people who have no interest in gaming, the ps3 is more than standing its ground now and is taking on all competition after a rough start

mighty_douche3608d ago (Edited 3608d ago )

whaa? you realise i was taking about the accessories and not the console itself right?

blacsheep3608d ago (Edited 3608d ago )

na wasnt replyin to your comment i agree with you i was just stating that they start off the article by claimin the ps3 isnt really standing its own even now which is propaganda the ps3 is gathering steam,,and of corse i got disagrees from fanboys patrolling the site but not man enough to back up their disagrees by explainin why they disagree.

Where is the Logitech G25 Steering Wheel? PS Eye even! The Newer Black Logitech Bluetooth keyboard? (And the up coming De Novo Mini. Hows about Dual Shock 3.... This should read "Most Useless Peripherals for PS3"

some are pretty cool like the Nyko controller and the charging dock

but the intercooler is completely pointless as is the thumb-pad doohickey

@DuB

yeah man that Nyko is looking better than the dualshock 3, i think i might pick it up (although its not as sexy as the DS3)

INehalemEXI3608d ago (Edited 3608d ago )

I would take that cordless keyboard and Nyko's Zero controller since its sleek, wexy and has rumble+sixaxis.

@ heyheyhey DS3 will have the advantage of remote start for PS3. Every 3rd party controller ive got yet does not remote start the ps3.

xsteinbachx3608d ago

the nyko frontman guitar isn't even released yet either... how can you be hardcore if you can't even get it yet...

Ri0tSquad3608d ago

Looks like it'll be better with FPS. I'll definitely pick up the charging base (must have for any wireless controller). I have no interest in the rest of the accessories.

Absolutely terrible article, and I'll tell you why.

Unlike Microsoft especially, Sony doesn't rape your wallet for a new hard drive, or a wireless headset, or a WiFi adapter, etc. Microsoft forces you to buy overpriced proprietery accessories.

Sony, conversely, lets you pick what you like out of whatever is out on the market, ie, bluetooth headsets, keyboards, mice, USB web cams, laptop hard drives, and it has built-in WiFi.

So what if Sony doesn't put their own stuff out there? They give you the option of using what items you deem to be the best, made by the manufactures you trust. They don't force you to spend a fortune for proprietary stuff.

Sony puts their own wireless controllers out there, along with their own Blu-ray remote, and that's all that's really needed. You have so many options to choose from for everything else. You're not limited by what Sony says, like you are with Microsoft.

Owning both consoles, I love Sony's off hands approach to accessories because it allows me to pick what I want, for the price I want, from what company I want. This is a luxury I love with my PS3, and wish I had on my 360, especially with the hard drives and headsets.

This is a luxury that anybody should be happy to have. That's what *choice* is all about.

i totally agree i got a blue tooth headset for like 15bucks on ebay and it works great also got a wireless keybord for around 20 didnt have to buy the sony only brands for like 59.99 so 35 compared to 120 ill take the 35 dollers over 120 any day and you can pick and choose any 2.5 inch hard drive too havent upgraded my 80gig yet but i will one day

I just wanted to add that what I thought made it a terrible article was the needless bashing of Sony, saying how the PS3 hasn't proven itself, or that it's "time for them to do something".

I just don't see why it was necessary to keep bashing Sony so they could list some accessories. Seemed like a cheap shot that didn't need to be there. If you want to list accessories, fine, but why take cheap shots?

they always seem cheap.

And for the bashing, they deserve it. The PS3 shouldve had a lot more going on with it then it did when it first hit the market and should have added more to it not take things away.

For one, I would have rather had rumble in my controller then WiFi, second, there was no headset added and sure you could buy a cheap one but shown from this article http://x2theg.blogspot.com/... people aren't buying them, third, no XMB and fourth, why in the world would they take out backward compatibility you got me.

PoeBoy3608d ago

"I would have rather had rumble in my controller then WiFi"

The reason there was not "rumble" in the controller was not for WiFi but because of the SIXAXIS motion technology. They had a hard time having the sensors "ignore" the rumbling.

As for the accessories, The intercooler is needed if you use your sysem for a long time. Both the PS3 & 360 get hot and both can benefit from the coolers.

BISHOP-BRASIL3608d ago

Not to say that Article's going wrong assuming:

#1: PS3 isn't standing on it's own.

#2: PS3 is only now receiving accessories.

Madcatz thumbpad has come way earlier than 360's little keyboard (sorry, forgot the name), not to say you can use by default any USB or Bluetooth keyboard, the same for headset.

The same goes on Wheel, PS3 was made to be compatible with most accessories out there, so you can just hook that hot G25 Logitech's Wheel since launch, how many the 360 owners have waited? And there is Wheel on Wii besides that crap plastic ring to fit Wiimote?

Controllers? We have many options since launch, but this is a point, since none of then are not worth the money, don't have motion sensors.

Dock Station, Console Base, Remote Control... All we have for a good time. Frag FX is something you don't have on other consoles. PS3 has also a specific Joystick, that indeed works with Blazing Angels, Warhawk and most Ace Combat from PS2 (I have tested it on a friends house).

Stacker and WiFi USB Key don't have anything to do with PS3 after all. Guitar and Microphone controllers was not here before because there was no games using it before... Just like Dance Pads (even if the PS2 and PC ones works right with PS2 compatible software).

I probably forget something... Lightgun... And after all, most accessories are crap stuff that you'll most never use.... Just look at most of the Wii "accessories", they are just piece of crap plastic to fit Wiimote in and do exactly what you already do without then. Accessories are, most time, just lie this, dispensable.

eLiNeS3608d ago (Edited 3608d ago )

I was not saying WiFi was the reason rumble was not in the controller, I was just saying I would rather not have WiFi built in since I don't use it on my 360. For The reason there was not "rumble" in the controller because of the SIXAXIS motion technology, is FALSE!!! Everyone knows that vibration and motion-sensing can co-exist in one controller (Wii remote anyone). The only reason Sony doesn't have feedback in their controllers is because of a lawsuit with Immersion, the company that provides the rumble technology, NOT because of hardware limits, hence, the lawsuit was handled and the Dual Shock 3 is on the way, a little 's late if you ask me, so the consumer pays.

-EvoAnubis-3608d ago

That's why I picked the PS3 over the 360 (well, one of the main reasons). Everyone I've talked to around the time I was going to buy a new console told me that the the 360 gave you more choices, but the more I looked into it, the more I discovered that they simply gave you the illusion of choice, whereas the PS3 actually provided options. They didn't force me to have to buy Sony products in order to further my PS3 experience.
