Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4 to Redefine 3D Gaming Realm?

"3D gaming emerged earlier during the PS3 and Xbox 360 generation and while much anticipation was present during its debut, many gamers have moved on and have learned to ignore 3D functionality. The main issue with 3D gaming on current video game consoles is the fact that the hardware present within both the PS3 and Xbox 360 were not designed with 3D gaming in mind. The idea of 3D gaming evolved during the lifecycle of both consoles and was forced upon hardware that could not support the load efficiently."

I'm honestly still not a fan of 3D gaming yet. Haven't been satisfied with what some have done for most games. Still a long ways to go.

i think they will further incorporate it but not focus on it solely. it's just a bonus, i think with oculus rift coming out, sony ms and ninty are going to try and dominate the VR market. i hope this happens, i hope sony were smart and decided to research VR a while back to have it ready for PS4, or bring it out during the PS4's life cycle just like they did with PSmove and 3D

VR is the next fad/ era. im so ready for it, PSvita already has the ability and games with it (little bit more than a tech demo) (so sony has the technology). so sony might be back on the map in no time, unless O.R. takes over..

I would hope not. I get people like 3D, but make it a side feature. If it's your primary marketing strategy, then it won't do well in the long run. The 3DS is proof of that.

You know what gaming platforms should redefine? Gaming.

Nintendo has already said their next gen Austen would be capable of it but it won't be pushed as a major feature. I think MS and Sony are going to do the same thing. Their are always going to be people who hate it and there always are going to be people like me who love it and others who are in between and want it as an option. It needs to be an option though.

I can't wait to see what the next generation has in store. Hopefully less peripherals, and actual features that come with the system.

I think this holiday's lineup will be a strong indicator as to whether or not any interest still remains.

if it's done well why not?

Get rid of the glasses.

I don't understand this complaint. Is it vanity?

I think wearing glasses to game is a pain in the butt. I can only stand 3-D for an hour or so at a time. As long as they keep it an option and not something forced on us, then I'm okay with it. Just not a fan up to this point.

They need the Oculus Rift:)
AO1JMM  +   292d ago
It has to be no glasses type 3D or that Oculus Rift type with head tracking. Everything else is a no go for me.

One thing and one thing only will even permit 3d gaming to become mainstream (goes for films as well) and that's when the majority of tv models include 3d viewing options as a standard option.
Scottis  +   291d ago
This is probably going to happen in the next couple of years. I won't be surprised if its hard to buy a TV that's not 3D capable next year.
vader1231231  +   292d ago
That would definitely make sense, considering all the talk of a graphical wall we're about to hit. I guess 3D, increased immersion, and/or improved virtual reality are the next things to shoot for, with moderate improvements in graphics.

LET IT GO

3D gaming is a bust, until we get glasses free as a standard, it wont pass

It was tried in the 80, 90 and now and it still doesnt catch onto the main stream

LET IT GO

3D Movies aren't really the bees knees either...

“The question of 3-D is a very straightforward one,” Christopher Nolan said in a recent interview. “I never meet anybody who actually likes the format, and it’s always a source of great concern to me when you’re charging a higher price for something that nobody seems to really say they have any great love for."

Black and white tvs, color tvs,hdtvs,3dhdtvs,ultrahdtvs,E TC. Why are people complaing about new features of a tv, you know the people who complain "JUST TO COMPLAIN" always have something negative to say just for the sake of it. Eventually when 3d gets cheaper almost everyone will have one even though some may not use the feature 3d will become a standard like COLOR TV/HDTV

People still care about 3D?
stuna1  +   292d ago
Yes they do. Although I'm in the minority, it's a nice feature to have! As far as movies go 3d has already become an alternative, so I don't see it going anywhere! Back in the 80's and 90's you saw a 3d movie they were far and in between, now you see a movie for the most part there usually is a 3d version released along side it.

Component set come equipped with 3d setups, most major television brands have their own 3d model tv's, there are 3d dvd players, there are even mobile phones capable of 3d! And least but not last you have Sony the makers of the playstation brand, who also own major motion picture studios backing 3d, so no I don't see 3d going anywhere anytime soon! They might even put it on the backburner, but it will always present waiting for the opportunity to flourish.

Still can't see 3D so I'm waiting for Holograms

2D sucks, we perceive the world in 3 dimensions yet some people want to game in flatland?
hongthay  +   291d ago
Just got a 3D tv a few weeks ago, but had been looking forward to it for the past year. Uncharted 3 is awesome in 3D, Ghost Recon not so much.

I must say, that it does make some games more immersive. I found it easier to play Virtua Tennis with the move in 3D, because it made it easier to time swings with the better understanding of where the ball was at exactly. Also, Tumble is so much easier in 3D as well.
