Sony refuses to admit that UMD is doomed

tech.co.uk staff 29 Jan 2008 12:12 GMT - Sometimes a company just doesn't know when to give up. Take Sony's attempt at marketing films and TV on its proprietary UMD format for the PlayStation Portable (PSP).

Following a brief period of enthusiasm immediately after the handheld's launch in 2004/5, sales of UMD movies have been in sharp decline.

The story is too old to be commented.

It's ironic but UMD needs to take shape of Downloadable format.

Its only really "Doomed" as a movie format, its still a good format for portable games.

which is why im pretty sure the article only mentions movies and tv shows and doesn't mention games.....

has such a big deal with UMD. Its not as if Sony tried to make the PS3 take UMD's instead of BD's. The UMD serves its purpose and Sony isn't trying to take it to places it doesn't need to go.

I have had my PSP for a month now, i have over 50 games and over a 100 UMD movies and i didnt pay anything for them.
Its just too easy to find and download any PSP game and movie from a torrent site.

I didn't know UMD was ever an 'undoomed' format.

Wait since when do PSP games come in DVD's? Did I miss something?

UMD may be doomed for its movie application for not for games. Get over it. Sony's not leaving the party any time soon.
