Although Rage offered dated – and arguably boring – gameplay it did offer stunning animation and visuals, serving better as a visual tech demo for id Software’s latest and greatest game engine: id Tech 5. That same engine is being used by the ZeniMax Media-owned developer for their next major project in Doom 4.
According to the developer, the game will be different from its other shooters and more importantly, it will please fans of the franchise. We heard this last year from id Software’s design director Matt Hooper and at QuakeCon 2012 during the keynote, John Carmack provided another little Doom 4 update

Dude you have to be retarded or blind, rage was a disaster as long as graphics are concerned regardless of which ever platform you look at it. There were low res textures every where. Particularly if you closed up on anything then even the PC version looked horribly dated poor textures everywhere (was bitten by the consolitus bug).
Lets hope ID has learnt a lesson and can up the graphics at least on the PC version.
Although I didn't like Rage (I had the ps3 version), it is still one of the best graphics games on console.......when the textures load.
The game probably would have been the best looking game hands down if they chose 30FPS, and smaller environments, but at least they tried to do something (which was, well impossible on consoles).
It also had HD resolution, which a lot of games don't have, Like COD, Halo, Resistance, Alan wake.....
So when you add up all the things they were doing, the graphics power of the engine truly shows. If they made a linear cod game, AND lowered the resolution, imagine what the graphics would look like? Even if they kept the large areas and went 30FPS, people would be bragging about it today. Fell truly sorry for PC owners who rightfully expected something to upgrade their PC's for.
doom 3 or halflife style, revolutionize gaming... maybe im asking for too much!

That's not what I saw at all. Mediocre at best gameplay, with decent but not great visuals is the Rage I played... for about 3 hours before I got too bored to continue.
Oh yeh I'm sure id is gonna screw Doom 4 up too. I'm so looking forward to a half ass console port to PC.
It should release at the beginning of a consoles life...
Rage was first shown 2007 (PS3 was released late 2006)
but Rage did not release until 2011...
Better release it on PC in pristine condition and no consolitis in sight , if it's anything like rage I'm done with ID , Doom & Quake are well known PC franchises and if they screw this up they can take a hike.
Id, go all out please!
Cant wait for this game!
Of course, I don't expect the kids hear to know this, but it's been a long time since Carmack said focusing on consoles for Rage was a bad idea. Yet here ye' all are sill complaining about a console port.
All I request is that the game feel like Doom. No CoD shit please, don't give me orders, let me do as I wish, let me go back and forth through maps without invisible walls, please, Rage had too many damn invisible walls.
