GP writer Jared discusses the implied effect of rape in the new trailer for Tomb Raider and how it has actually happened in an earlier game with no controversy surrounding it.
See, if they had just given it context, or saved it for the main game when it'd have in-built context, they'd maybe be okay to justify it, but nooo! Violence porn and sexual assault! That's what we have to deal with here! Dope article, dawg!
"Dope article, dawg!" Are...are you serious?
Yes, because I believe in positive feedback, but I use outdated slang because it's weird and draws attention from me actually saying something positive because I'm emotionally repressed. What's the issue?
Because news outlets love controversy. If they're going for a more realistic take on things, sexual assault would be a very threat to someone like Lara. And if this was a film or novel, no one would bat an eye. The whole controversy just perpetuates the "games are for children" stereotype.
A lot of people have become really dumb and take things at face value. Read and analyze.
She has been a sex icon for years and in early footage she's getting assaulted and moaning like she's getting off. THAT is why. Maybe it's a stupid controversy, but it's also stupid the way some think TR is suddenly progressive and can do no wrong because they cut down her bra size.
Why are games different than movies again? If it is M rated i don't see what the big deal is. As long as it is handled properly and in a mature manner I think that is the next logical step in gaming: serious story telling of things that are more adult themed. But she wasnt even raped anyway so....
It is not controversial the moaning is just annoying.
