OXM - Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance - Platinum hijacks Kojima's baby

OXM - You won't find stealth or a hint that the iconic Solid Snake will appear in it, and series creator Hideo Kojima isn't helming it. So why does Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance even sport the Metal Gear name? Well, it doesn't really matter. As soon as you take control of the tow-headed cyber-ninja assassin Raiden, and start whaling away on a ridiculously oversized watermelon, only the most stubborn, joy-free series stalwarts will start splitting hairs. (Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Xbox 360)

Weird title seeing as it wasnt Kojima's baby.

Yeah it is weird, although it says something about the efficiency of Platinum games and the shallow stories they create, to make time for actually designing the game. Konami spent 1 year on just formulating the story, Platinum games did it in 2 weeks, no fuss no muss. Quite frankly a game like this doesn't need a super involved crazy nonsense story like what happened with MGS 2 and parts of MGS 4, Konami needs to wake up when it comes to story telling. Their stories make no sense regardless, so spending a whole year on it while your company suffers financially and you have no idea exactly what you want to make is not something a publisher should put up with - else it won't be in business much longer. Of course it's going to take longer when it's Konami - they care far more about Kojima's vision for even the most insignificant parts of the story, gameplay etc.

Maybe they got it confused with peacewalker?

" You won't find stealth or a hint that the iconic Solid Snake will appear in it, and series creator Hideo Kojima isn't helming it. So why does Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance even sport the Metal Gear name?"

Because konami is willing to exploit the metal gear name to sell a hack and slash metal gear themed game.

A metal gear ninja game without stealth, it isn't ninja gaiden or shinobi those aren't known for being stealthy, metal gear is.

Sounds like dumbing a game down for the cod/twitch shooter crowd masses they did it to splinter cell.

You can tell the author didn't watch the ms e3 press conference where it was announced, kojima looked like he was very embarrassed to even be associated with the game.

@know "Quite frankly a game like this doesn't need a super involved crazy nonsense story like what happened with MGS 2 and parts of MGS 4, Konami needs to wake up when it comes to story telling."

Actually it is kojima's story not konami's. I would rather a "super non-sense story" than most of garbage generic storylines that pass for most games quality storys.

2 weeks on boring forgetable story or a yr on a vivid and interesting story that will discussed long after you beat the game.

"Of course it's going to take longer when it's Konami - they care far more about Kojima's vision for even the most insignificant parts of the story, gameplay etc."

No konami doesn't give a rats ass, who do you think is pushing this crappy spin off. Kojima's own perfectionism and the dedication of his team is why many of his games to this day are considered benchmark setting games for their era.

Hell not that many games current are on same level as mgs4 a 2008 game to me.

You sound exactly like the perfect target audience for this and many other dumbed down games, this gen. Don't make them think to beat the game, don't give them a story more complicated than what a child can understand.

For having knowyourstuff as your user, is ironic because when it comes to kojima and konami and who is responsible for the quality of the game.

Because you have it so ass backwards it's sad.

Is it just me or do we have a new generation of gamers that either don't care the slightest bit about quality or can't be bothered with learning the details. Ie why would i read the book, when i can just watch the movie.

is it just me or are you basing everything on what you think makes a good game and your opinion on what everything related to Metal Gear should be?

Metal Gear Rising has the perfect gameplay considering the 2008 game which you praise so much called Metal Gear Solid 4 had Raiden hacking and slashing everthing to bits.

Logically, if you are going to make a new game based on the Raiden which people saw on Metal Gear Solid 4, then you wouldn't expect it to be about stealth, you would expect a kick ass, fast paced hack and slash game. This is one area where PG and the team are known to be able to deliver in spades.

As for dumbing the story down, all I have to say is there are many ways of telling a story. Although Kojima is brilliant at telling stories, I think it was a good decision to get someone else to do the story.

Solid Snakes story fits with his gameplay - slow and stealthy.

Is it just me or do we have type of gamers who do not wish to play anything but a particular style of games and anything else which may be different they criticise.

Why raiden, make it grey fox.

Depends does the game look interesting to me if yes play if not skip, you know kinda how every gamer has his or her own opinion on whats fun or not.

I ain't referring to just gameplay when i talk about how good mgs4 is.

"it just me or are you basing everything on what you think makes a good game and your opinion on what everything related to Metal Gear should be? " Like i am the only who does that with games get real.

Right like people won't judge halo 4, based on what they have come to expect from the halo series.

If this was a new ip not related to metal gear, people wouldn't be as critical, especially when kojima himself has been reluctant to take control of it.<-- This is what gives alot of mgs fans a massive red flag.

It could wind up being a good game, but it won't be a metal gear solid game, you like something more akin to fast faced h/s i do to, but mg isn't fast action to me.

I am not telling you, that you can't have that opinion, which kinda seems what your trying to tell me.

Don't use a established brand name and not expect some backlash from fans if the game is a radical departure from the series.

The title gives off a very negative vibe but the article itself is actually praising the game LOL

aawww man, don't tell me that! The only reason I clicked was to read the complaints but if it's a positive article then, meh.... (no sarcasm)
