OXM: 10 best Xbox 360 games of 2012 so far

OXM UK writes: "The sun may be a distant memory, lost beneath the clouds and the blanket coverage of rictus-faced sportspeople doing things which would cause normal humans to explode into clouds of gristle and vertebrae, but you can still tell it's summer: there aren't any new games to play."

The story is too old to be commented.

1. Spelunky
2. Mass Effect 3
3. Trials Evolution
4. The Darkness 2
5. Minecraft
6. Binary Domain
7. Dragon Dogma
8. Fez
9. The Witcher 2
10. The Walking Dead

I don't normally post a sites' list but they have it spread over 10 pages. Yeah it's one of those.

Please click the site name under "Read full story" and show them what you think of their methods.

Edit: Hell, I just approved it so people could rate the site for the crap they just pulled.

dirigiblebill1841d ago (Edited 1841d ago )

Sure, because asking the reader to click "next page" a few times is a crime against humanity. Jesus Christ, what do we pay these people for? Oh wait, we don't.

Having a preference about the kind of content you prefer is fine, but anybody who actively penalises a site for taking steps to ensure it can continue to supply editorial for free is an utter, utter child.

EDIT - Lol, a disagree. OK, phantom wanderer - show me what's so utterly, utterly dreadful about paginated features. Demonstrate to me how *horribly* your rights as a reader and a consumer have been infringed by the awful, awful experience of having to flex your index finger more than once per reading experience. Tot up the damages. Show your working. Because I see people complaining about this time and time again, and at no point have I ever had reason to suspect that they're operating on the basis of anything save abject self-entitlement.

Trying to justify your methods? LOL!
Good luck convincing people that you screwing them over is a good thing. Although it does prove my point as to the unethical practices of your site.

So...Thanks I guess.

*two thumbs up*

Edit :I didn't disagree. There is the matter of this though: "EDIT - Lol, a disagree. OK, phantom wanderer - show me what's so utterly, utterly dreadful about paginated features. Seriously, did you mean to get both feet in there or was that a happy coincidence?

You're ranting about people not having the right to question you methods while admitting to screwing them (readers) over to get make more cash.

You can't pay for entertainment like that!

dirigiblebill1841d ago (Edited 1841d ago )

Except I'm not "screwing people over", am I? That's a wholly unjustified assertion on your part. What I'm doing is asking for something (an ad impression) in return for what I'm giving. Basic economics, you'd have thought. Would you prefer I asked for money?

@DarkTower805

I'm not getting "dramatic" about people disliking list features - as I wrote earlier, that's absolutely their prerogative. I'm taking issue with the claim that list features are "unethical", "screwing people over" and the like. How can any sane, grounded individual use terms and phrases of this sort to describe the experience of having to click to another page? How is this anything other than a display of self-entitlement?

DarkTower8051841d ago

@ dirigiblebill, stop being so dramatic please. I for one hate when lists are spread among pages like this article is because I'm mostly on N4G in my office at work and can only use my phone for internet. With a sub par connection on my phone here it REALLY IS a chore to go through 10 pages when 1 page is all thats needed.

And I KNOW I'm not the only one here using a phone to go on N4G.

DarkTower8051841d ago

@dirigiblebill, sorry man but you are being a bit of a drama queen. A quick explanation of why you use a multiple page format would have sufficed and ended the issue. Instead you had to go on a defensive rant when there was no need to.

Like I stated, the format for me sucks, but I do understand that you guys don't get rich off of game journalism and in fact it's quite the opposite for most. I do appreciate the work you guys put in to provide for my entertainment and keeping up to date on gaming news, and in the end, if anything this comment section was highly entertaining so thanks for that.

P.S. I did give your site a click.

Thanks!

I'd add Kingdoms of Amalur. Amazing game.

Thanks a lot! You saved me many minutes now!

dirigiblebill1841d ago (Edited 1841d ago )

@LostDjinn

"Screwing them over" is when a bank charges you whopping admin fees for routine administration. "Unethical"? That's when somebody bombs a wedding, or only lets white people sit at the front of a bus. But multiple pages per feature? I believe the phrase you're looking for is "tiny and entirely justified inconvenience".

You're living in a fantasy world, old chap, a world devoid of real injury or danger. So quite naturally, you're making up causes for complaint to keep life interesting.

Justify it how ever you want. The fact of the matter is that for something to be unethical it just has to be without ethics (and what are you doing here? Come on. You can get this one.)

All you're doing here is going to extremes to try and make what you've done look less $#!tty. Just like replying here instead of to my original post as a means of escaping a reply (to which you'd have to justify more and make yourself look worse).

Long story short: You're just trying to escape being accountable for your actions.

The story and the staggered replies simply reinforce it.

dirigiblebill1841d ago (Edited 1841d ago )

"All you're doing here is going to extremes to try and make what your doing look less $#!tty."

You're the one who introduced "extremes" to the discussion, and you have yet to offer anything approaching a reason for doing so.

"Just like replying here instead of to my original post as a means of escaping a reply (to which you'd have to justify more and make yourself look worse)."

That's right, hide behind pseudo-analytical idiocy so you don't have to actually engage me in debate. And I have replied to your original post.

"Justify it how ever you want."

I have. Your turn.

@ Phil32

I know. A commercial website, looking to boost page impressions? The nerve. You'd almost think these people need to feed themselves, or something.

OK: "That's when somebody bombs a wedding, or only lets white people sit at the front of a bus." That's your extremism not mine. I simply posted the list, what you'd done and asked people to rate your site. The rest is of your creation. I mean you've actually moved along to blaming me for things that you've done. It's insane.

I'm therefor obliged to ask. Is everything OK? You seem to have trouble differentiating fact from fiction. How long has this been happening? Your site's been running this way for a long time. So is it a chronic condition? Just making up whatever you want and attacking any who call you on it? I don't know where you are but I'm sure you could get help in your area if you just looked for it.

Please, do it for me if not for yourself.

dirigiblebill1841d ago (Edited 1841d ago )

Heh, you're a funny one. Again, no actual case to make, so you're trying to walk yourself out of a corner via playground jibes and weak attempts at character assassination.

"That's your extremism not mine."

You're the one who called my methods "crap", "unethical", "screwing people over", etc, and those terms and phrases are the basis for my analogies. Debate 101: I'm inviting you to consider your (mis)use of such terms and phrases in light of how they're otherwise applied.

Here, let me clear the waters. The gist of your position as far as I can deduce is: "asking people to click through multiple pages is unethical, because ?". And mine is: "the tiny inconvenience that is clicking through to another page is part of the price you pay for not having to actually pay at all".

I'm done here.

@DarkTower

Fair enough, I've had a bit of a meltdown - sorry for your trouble. But how would you react if somebody accused you of immoral behaviour without good reason? If LD offers a real basis for his accusations, I'll gladly bow to his wisdom. Believe it or not, I care about what I do and don't want to do it wrong.

To recap: clicking "next page" to generate an ad impression is no different, broadly, to buying a magazine, other than that consumers don't actually have to pay.

LostDjinn1840d ago

And mine is: "the tiny inconvenience that is clicking through to another page is part of the price you pay for not having to actually pay at all"." - OK. Let me sum up like this:

You inconvenience people to generate revenue. Visiting your site and giving it a single hit for a single story isn't enough. You have wring extra hits from visitors by any means necessary.
You admit to it. Then go on to say that you don't "bomb weddings" so it OK. You're not disputing your actions or that they're underhanded. You're arguing that there are worse things in the world and as such you're absolved of any wrongdoing. Sorry but not being a murderer doesn't get you off a charge of stealin' an old gilrs' purse. Though that seems to be the logic you're trying to employ.

It comes down to the fact you either ignore any wrongdoing on your part in the hopes the problem will go away, or aren't capable of telling right from wrong.

Either way, get help. You'll be better for it.

P.S. Sorry about the delay.

Agreed. Posting across ten pages is a cheap tactic to drive up hits.

BINARY DOMAIN IS IN THE LIST!!!! GOOD GOD!

The Witcher 2 port was pretty damn impressive. CD Projekt really know how to work the 360's tech. Hoping they hit their hoped one million 360 sales by the end of the year.

Been having a lot of fun with Minecraft and the Walking Dead as well. That's all I own from the list.
