SmartGlass Could Change My Life And Here’s Why

Quote: "When Microsoft unveiled their SmartGlass technology at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, they opened the gates of imagination heaven with a concept that for all intents and purposes seemed like something that could not just benefit the Xbox 360 as a medium but introduce a whole other world of interactivity.

Meanwhile gamers the world over yawned as they eagerly awaited the cinematic reveal of the next title in that atrocious series starring that silly man in the green suit. You know, that guy.

Now I’m here today to declare this disinterest from gamers as folly, and it is my hope that by the end of this little adventure, you will be craving if not frothing through every orifice for a piece of the SmartGlass action. For the purposes of this digression, we will assume that there are no connectivity issues to be experienced of the technology and that you own a compatible device and charger. "

MS covering there ass in case of wiiU success?

ALLWRONG2325d ago

MS presented the tablet in 2002

CandyCaptain2325d ago

Which btw has nothing to do with using it as a console controller/add-on experience, that they announced in 2012. Which was after the wiiU was announced in 2011. :/

ALLWRONG2325d ago

Wii U controller is just a tablet, unless it has magic powers and can fly.

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney2325d ago (Edited 2325d ago )

for games?

I don't care who made a tablet.. In that case you admit that kinect is a rip off of sony?

The fact is nintendo is bring tablets to console and all of a sudden MS is doing it.

Seems your only way of defending them is to generalize the subject.

@ shutUpAndTakeMyMoney

You know very well that Kinect is extremely different than anything sony has presented and makes no sense to even bring it into the conversation. You were just looking for an excuse to troll.

Looking at the time line when Nintendo first presented the Wii U controller and MS presenting the "Glass" application are too close together to say MS is copying Nintendo. Also, MS clearly are stating that Glass is going to happen and they currently have no idea if the tablet like controller Nintendo is bringing out is even going to succeed or not.

Remember "glass" will work with many different devices including their new Surface tablet releasing later this year. Clearly MS's surface tablet was already planned to be released into the market before Nintendo announced the tablet controller for the Wii-U.

MS isn't copying Nintendo, they are just looking at the trends in today's gaming....just like nintendo is doing. Tablets and cell phones are becoming a major tool for gaming.

I can't wait for my surface pro to be released, pissed i have to wait an extra 90 days after surface RT is released for my Pro.

gamer78042326d ago

Right with ya, was so excited to get one in october, but now it could be as late as january 26 :(.

I'm hoping they somehow get it done in time for Christmas.

Christopher2326d ago

Just FYI, SmartGlass will run on current gen Android and iOS tablets as well at some point.

KMCROC542326d ago (Edited 2326d ago )

There's always an incentive or feature that will not be in those other devices, that's why am choosing to go with Surface PRO.

Christopher2326d ago

Understood. Just wanted to make sure that people knew it wasn't required.

I'm looking forward to the Pro tablet myself as well. May not buy at release, but if nothing better comes along by Christmas time...

RXL2326d ago (Edited 2326d ago )

look how long it took Microsoft and Sony to come out with motion controls of their own? many years AFTER nintendo had already been released and categorized as a commercial success

this kinda of stuff takes years of R&D so to say that they or Sony are copying Nintendo with this "glass" stuff would be retarded...

Eye Toy- Oct 2003

The eye toy was in development back in 99 by the same dude that invented Move 2 years later. The Eye Toy is a motion device. Also, lets not forget about Sixaxis motion (2006).

Also, Sega beat N to the punch with the VMU. It's essentially the same idea, but on a smaller scale.

Nintendo did invent Motion controls, it made it popular. You probably think the Power Glove was the first motion controller huh?

RXL2326d ago

you further proved my point about these things taking YEARS to develop..

and 28 years old and been playing games longer than you've been using the internet..

Want to use my Xbox 360 content on my future MS Surface tablet(all services and social features). Also want deeper plot info and in-game background info on characters and history of game worlds, in games like GTA5 and Watchdogs and more. Party and video chat on the go will be good. Need a Google Chrome to Phone feature for external devices and the 360, obviously being for internet explorer etc.

f7897902326d ago (Edited 2326d ago )

What's wrong with getting the "special" background info on the TV? Don't let new info features they could have added whenever make you buy a tablet.

It's just a tablet.

greenpowerz2326d ago (Edited 2326d ago )

The tablet is getting the Info from the internet in real time. I think you must be talking about on disc content. Consoles don't stream live related content from the internet in-game or during movie streaming in split screen. Smartglass connects the xbox experience to other devices and vice versa, its not just background info.

"It's just a tablet"

You mean its a barebones mobile computer sometimes more powerful than the console itself.

I'm not sure what you mean by just using the tv. Smartglass is software that allows connections of mobile computers and other hardware like PC and MSFT console(s)

720 could allow in-game web searching with picture in picture lol

Lvl_up_gamer2325d ago (Edited 2325d ago )

@ f789790

I think you are confusing MS's "Surface" tablet with MS's "SmartGlass" application.

Surface is the physical tablet, just like the Ipad.

SmartGlass is an application that connects devices like Ipad and Surface or Samsung Galaxy s and Iphones to access game information related to the game that you are currently playing on your TV via 360 or 720.

I personally can't wait to try out smartgalss on my new Samsung Galaxy s 3. I am curious to see how it's implemented and if it will actually help with immersing myself deeper into the game i am playing or the Lore
