Sony Computer Entertainment released their Q1 earnings report on Thursday morning, giving people an updated look at the sales of PlayStation Vita.
Q1 sales of PS3+PS2 can be found in the link, also.
Amazing hardware, beautiful games, but stupid decisions. Every Vita should come with a memory stick and bundled game wouldn't hurt, I remember being a child and my father bought me a PS2 bundled with Gran Turismo 3, it was epic.
I agree but I also think sony need to get there in house developers to work on the online side of there games too. MNR, UCGA are 2 of the best games on the PSV but don't have online MP. I think if sony drop the PSV price before xmas and get games like LBP LBP Karting ect right and push them like Nintendo push there games the sales of the PSV will pickup.
From neogaf 1.9m PS3 - 600k PS2 last Q. Overall rose 300k this Q so 700k PS2 and 2.1m PS3 seems like a good range. Ps3- 2.1 million units Ps2-700k units They didn't break down the Vita/PSP numbers yet. Edit: For comparison's sake, the 360 sold 1.1 million for their quarter and had a lost of $229 million in their gaming division. Source: http://www.edge-online.com/... Ps3 sold 2.1 million (according to neogaf) for the quarter and had a lost of $45 million in their gaming division. Seems the Vita might've caused the lost.
I never spoke about the PS3 sales I was talking about PSV and everyone knows its not selling very well. But Like I said im sure Sony can turn it around.
I do agree with you about each Vita should come with a memory card. I remember coming home, opening the Vita, and trying to play a game but then found out you need to buy a memory card so yea.
I would have been pissed but come on dude. You really didn't know you you needed memory and you're on a gaming website?
Same thing happened to me. I kind of new but I was hoping that Golden Abyss would let me play without saving. I was wrong...
@InTheLab, I didn't read up on any PS Vita articles cause i wasn't really interested at the time.
No good games that say BUY ME for the PS vita yet. Fanboys were gonna buy the handheld regardless, so they don't count. I'm waiting for the slim/price drop.
So sales from fanboys who bought a Vita don't count? XperiaRay
There is one: Gravity Daze. But that is the only one at the moment. Since I never had a PSP, I have a ton of games to catch up on. :)
Ok Sony, do your spin saying these numbers are within expectations. Honestly, they need to start marketing the Vita properly, drop the price and include a memory card. Sure Vita owners will say rubbish but if nothing changes the Vita is simply going to die a slow death.
You are beating a dead Horse, this is Sony's way of doing it. Look at the PS3 and the PSP, steady sales all the way. If you're hoping for something amazing just around the corner, you are gonna be hugely disappointed.
Why are you in this thread twice?
"You are beating a dead Horse, this is Sony's way of doing it. Look at the PS3 and the PSP, steady sales all the way. If you're hoping for something amazing just around the corner, you are gonna be hugely disappointed." 100% agreement, With Sony having to distribut, support and manage 5 gaming platforms for their playstation Biz, they Have alot to do, its never about front loading the sales, there is no way they really can do that, when you have 5 platforms you only have so much developer support to go at anyone time. How to Be Patient http://www.wikihow.com/Be-P...
Sony UK have at least been honest about it... "We would love it to be selling more and we intend to make it sell more." - http://psp2roundup.blogspot...
365 million USD loss for the company 40 million USD loss for SCE.
They are projecting sales for PSP and VITA 4 million less than their initial forecast. At least now people won't say Vita is selling well or at least not as well as SONY expected if SONY themselves have to decrease projected sales by that much for the fiscal year. Also it seems the Games department (playstation) made a 3.4 billion yen loss. Not a major loss by any stretch of the imagination but not the profit everybody keeps saying is the only bright spot in SONY's books. Turns out that honour belongs to Sony Music, Imagining Products, Devices (no playstations don't count as devices) and very largely Financial Services. Proof http://www.sony.net/SonyInf...
It would be nice to know how much of that gaming loss is due to Vita. This quarter is also the worst when it comes to games released and that doesn't help at all. The currency exchange rates are killing Sony. They would've made 22 billion more profit without exchange rates f*cking them up good if I'm reading this correctly. What is up with mobile services and such? Their revenue has more than doubled but even if we were to count out the currency exchange eff up it would still have made loss. It's a catastrophe in and of itself. Now the currency rates sink that division a whopping 26.8 billion downwards so they have two owwies as ralph Wiggum would say it.
"This quarter is also the worst when it comes to games released and that doesn't help at all." That doesn't have much to do with Sony lowering their forecast by 25% because that is based on the entire year. Sony knows it's not doing as well as expected so why can't people like you just come to grips with it? You act like negative news means you can't enjoy their products as much unless you desperately try and downplay it.
I never said anything about not getting to grips with it. WTH? Revenue was down since there were no big games released at all unlike last year's q1 iirc. Just pointing out the obvious. you are too quick to judge.
"Just pointing out the obvious." The topic is about the combination of Vita and PSP forecasts being dropped by 25% and it's not because of exchange rates. Nintendo also shares the same problems with the Yen, have they lowered their forecasts for the DS and 3DS by 25%?
"The currency exchange rates are killing Sony. They would've made 22 billion more profit without exchange rates f*cking them up good if I'm reading this correctly." No you're not reading correctly.
Okay now start making more games for us. Come on I want a gow, mgs and monster hunter for christ sakes. Also make that bioshock game happen.
I don't know why people here make out like Wii U failing would drive Nintendo out of the market when they can still afford to make other systems. Its very clear Sony is in far worse danger than Nintendo. If N sell Wii U at profit and Sony sell PS4 at a loss then it would take them far longer to be profitable. Sony might have more divisions, but their losses in other divisions will eventually effect gaming.
What PS Vita got Right: 1. the hardware design & quality 2. the controls 3. the processing & graphical power 3. the features What PS Vita got Wrong: 1. the high prices-unit & memory cards 2. the type of games 3. not catering to majority market for handhelds 4. no A/V out Its the PSP all over again. Looks like Sony did not learn its lesson. Edit: Sony CEO Kaz Hirai said they do not expect a huge chunk of Sony's revenue coming from the PS Vita. No wonder this is how they treat this platform. Don't get your hopes too high on the PS Vita peeps.
It is not PSP all over again. It is selling not even close to PSP numbers. In the first 7 months on the market the PS Vita is tracking 1 million behind the PSP in its first 7 months. And the PSP did not even launch in PAL-terretories (Europe, Australia, South Korea) in this timeframe. So the PS Vita is lacking 1 million behind with worldwide numbers than the PSP with Japan + NA numbers only. I know disagrees will come, but it is just a fact. I am not making this up.
You miss the part that none of the games is selling on the Vita. No matter how you spin it the Vita is not doing as expected and the game dare not selling and developers are still unsure especisally since the games didn't sale on the PSP. It is too late for the Vita and anyone who says it is good that for how it is selling now as a slow burner are delusional.
I gave you both an Agree and a bubble + with a bubble + so as to stroke both your ego's, so as to ballance this so overwhelming bias N4G that loves Sony so much, i ask every fan of the playstation platform to do the same, So Sony will get off their collective @ss and make the Playstation platform sale better! Because that's why these two do what they do! Playstation fans they are trying to help! so help them Help sony!
" It is selling not even close to PSP numbers." Does it always have to be sales? I am not talking about sales but the right kind of games. Get the right game/s first then everything falls into order for a system. You know what console history has proven that it only takes one right game to turn the tides of competition in favor of the underdog. So far the PS Vita does not have that right game at the right time. I know Sony is so bad ass, it doesn't give spit to what comes & goes to its platform but I feel Sony has lost touch of the gaming market & does not know what to do. Nintendo & M$ are outbidding Sony right now when it comes to 3rd Party games. Its so sad.
stupid decisions stop you from being top dog sony
Guys, we need to support Sony and the vita, they and it are very important to our gaming landscape, gaming wouldn't be what it is today without em both, I open my arms to Sony and the vita, cuddles all around
Lol they dropped their ridiculous forecast of 16 million vita/psp sales by a whopping 25% and have already admitted that this year is going to be a big loss, and it's only quarter 1..... More bad times ahead for Sony. Now watch in quarter 2 when they take another 4 million off the predictions. The vita is dead in the water and Sony look like they couldn't care less. Oh and so much for the game division being their shining light lol. As always their financial division is the only thing keeping them afloat. Also, when they've started lumping the ps3 and vita with other consoles and not disclosing individual sales figures you just know its bad.
Why do you act like you want Sony to do bad? Your username makes no sense at all unless you're referring to yourself.
It should be "Overall, Sony posted a loss of $312 million on the quarter. However, the gaming division only posted a loss of $45 million." Much bigger story.
Word. You know something, when the Xbox360 division lost $229 million this year, we hardly had any headlines speaking on that, only the 18.06B overall profit for the Microsoft company as a whole. But with Sony, we will probably have articles headlining with it's $45 million lost in the gaming division or Sony's total lost as a whole company. Here's the only one I could find. Bot doesn't MS loss include the mobile phone business?
It's not that the Ps Vita didn't have any games during that fiscal period, but there were not many must-have killer apps that can only be played on the Ps Vita. Right now the Vita mostly has ports, and while there is nothing wrong with ports, if someone already has a 360 or PS3, they won't feel the need to buy a Vita if they have other systems they already own that can play those games. I mean, I don't think we saw any big releases in the whole month of July, so the sales are pretty good considering that. When more exclusive Vita games are released like asc 3 Liberation, and call of Duty black ops declassified, the sales should spike.
Theres not alot of original AAA vita titles to get yet.. Theres some incoming though... I hope nothing gets delayed into 2013..
