Could the Ouya Beat the XBOX360 and PS3?

"It will have a successful launch with over 40,000 consoles shipped, but does the Ouya have what it takes to remain a top contender?" | Explosion.com (Dev, Industry, Ouya, PS3, Xbox 360)

If you want to beat the man you have to first catch up with the man.
PoSTedUP  +   998d ago
no, you first have to BE a man. this thing is like a child compared to consoles. but @ $99 i might be able to do my first ever youtube "console smash" video : D

Could It beat the xbox360 and ps3. I would have to say no. The console is not even going to be nearly as powerful as the Ps3 and Xbox.
The only good thing I see about this console is that It cost $99 which is the same as the Onlive console. Since ouya has onlive in it the ouya is the clear better value. "IF" you're considering the onlive microconsole.

I'm sorry to say for $99 dollars even they shouldn't be expecting much! I just can't see $99 being enough to fund the necessary tech required to be on par with 6 and 7 year technology plus net them a profitable return.

Even though this is a kickstarter funded project at some point I would expect that funding to end.

Does it strike anybody as odd that Nintendo, Microsoft or, Sony haven't reacted to the news of Ouya? Me thinks it's because they don't consider it a threat!

Ironic, that just a few hours ago an article titled "Top 5 things Fanboys can Agree on" was approved. Lol Coincidence.

HammadTheBeast  +   998d ago
lol its likesaying Kinect and Motion games are replacing next gen consoles lol.
hilmart  +   998d ago
It really depends on the user.
They have announced that it's a console designed to be modified in anyway the user sees fit. Therefor, you can swap out any hardware you want if you want to upgrade. You can install any OS/Software you want.
Personally, I can't wait to start tinkering with this thing.
PoSTedUP  +   998d ago
so in other words it can be upgraded like a pc and i'll be able to play free-to-play-games such as cryteks new F2P game Warface : D?
hilmart  +   998d ago
Actually, when you think about it. The Ouya is just a weird mobile PC, but somehow I am really looking forward to seeing it's interiors with my own eyes and start swapping stuff out.
Infact, I think it wont take me long to actually fashion my own case for it (or not use a case at all) and just have a mess of a computer...
t0mmyb0y  +   998d ago
On the kickstarter page it makes it sound like you can try any game, but you probably have a time limit or something and you have to buy it.
KingOfArcadia  +   998d ago
Um, no. That is all.
Trenta27  +   998d ago
I was just about to post that exact same thing. Good job. XD
nolifeking  +   998d ago
This is all reminding me of the phantom. A console with so much promise, yet zero actual relevance. I think I'll just sit back and watch the fallout when all of this goes tits up.
ChunkyLover53  +   998d ago
Well the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are heading into the last year of this cycle, so if anything the Ouya is getting an early start on the next generation. I don't see it performing well at all, OnLive has been around for years and I don't know a single person who has it. I am interested in it because its open source and I can put emulators and things on it, but I definitely don't take it seriously in the console war.
Vortex3D  +   998d ago
More like Ouya is getting early start against Wii U because once PS4/next Xbox comes out, Ouya hardware will be so far behind.

Maybe Ouya will be fun trying to get some old emulators to run PS1/PS2 games on it.
ChunkyLover53  +   998d ago
Well the Wii U comes out before Ouya, so I guess Wii U gets the earliest start. We don't know the specs of the Wii U, but some say its 3x as powerful as current hardware, which wouldn't put it at as much of a disadvantage as people think. When you consider the Xbox 720 and PS4 might only be 6x as powerful as their current versions.

Also, specs isn't what defines what a console generation is, its simply the next console in a line being released, which makes Wii U next gen no matter what anyone says.
KMCROC54  +   998d ago
It won't & am not helping them.
mushroomwig  +   998d ago
No, the fanbase of both the 360 and PS3 are far too great for the Ouya to "beat". The price point is nice but the other consoles won't stay at their current price forever. No well established franchises and no well known brand name to back it up.

I'm sure Ouya will do quite well, but it's not in the same league as the other consoles.

Nah, I'll be over here with the campfire watching it rot away. Anyone can join me if they feel like it. (It's going to be a long one xD)

10 years from now, the Ouyuuyu or whatever it's called will be on that list of failed consoles right along with the 3DO and Jaguar...

Amazing how anyone would even consider this thing challenging two of the most successful consoles in history...
DebateMaster  +   998d ago
most successful consoles in history? lol
InTheLab  +   998d ago
PS2- 153m
PS1- 103m
Wii- 96m
360- 68m
PS3- 66m
NES- 61m

Most units sold. Like I said...most successful consoles in history...
DebateMaster  +   995d ago
They only consider it challenging the PS3 and 360(not two of the most successful in history)
yami930  +   998d ago
I feel that OUYA will not be very great especially if a new PS3 slim is going to be released for around $100 - $150 with 16 gb of memory, a blu-ray player, and all other features of the PS3, not to forget the exclusive games, and it can have Gaikai (cloud gaming) and Playstation Mobile (phone app games) release along with the new PS3 model, which will really make OUYA look unappealing next to the PS3 at least.
goldwyncq  +   998d ago
This console is being overhyped a little too much methinks.
aviator189  +   998d ago
I honestly think ouya will be a bust. I don't doubt it'll capture a small audience, but it's highly unlikely it'll transcend let alone be on an equal level as the ps3/xbox 360.
The_Infected  +   998d ago
It's funny listening to everyone argue. Anyways look at mobile games they done outsell most AAA games. Most mobile games wil already be on OUYA I'm sure plus lots more.

Mobile game sells:

Console games sells:

Now imagine being able to access these games on a $99 console. There will be better games due to free SDK and developers can soley focus on gameplay/graphics and not just one or the other. Their resources can all go toward game development now and not paying huge amountsto M$ and Sony for SDKs and and all that. Yes they use Tegra 3 which will be pushed to the limits unlike Tegra 3 on Moblie which is turned down and a core dedicated to battery life. It will be better than you think. Also for AAA games who have good Internet now have OnLive, No Xbox Live fee, much cheaper games, more developers due to free SDK, much cheaper entry price. The list goes on. Times change. The big players fall and the new arise.

Are you really comparing the sales of $3 mobile games to console games?

Of course mobile sales will be higher, cheaper cost and development along with the fact that mobile phones are more of an necessity than consoles.

'Most mobile games will already be on OUYA'

I fail to see how that's a good thing, since the majority of those mobile games are on console anyway.

Also I don't really see people arguing, the majority of users agree that it's a pretty silly idea for a console that has no well known brand recognition, no killer exclusives and no known franchisees to compete with consoles that have been out for 5-6 years and have over a 100 million plus fanbase.

Please tell me something, what is the advantage of having access to mobile games on a home console? Do you really believe this kind of console will have release AAA titles that could ever compete with Uncharted, Gears or Halo?
The_Infected  +   998d ago
Ok let's take a quick look.

OUYA: pros
Cheap $99
Free to play
Free SDK
Extremely cheap to develop for
Completely open platform
Free to play
Free to patch games unlike Microsofts $10,000+
Free multiplayer and Apps access unlike Xbox Live
Developer friendly

OUYA: cons

Fanboys aside it looks great!
aviator189  +   998d ago
thing is, ouya won't be mobile like your average mobile smartphone device, so it likely won't rack up nearly as many sales as their true mobile counterpart.
