4 Reasons Why Wii U Will Fail

GameXplain: "The Wii may have dominated, in terms of sheer sales, this past generation, and the DS – along with its successor, the 3DS, to a lesser extent – may be the most popular handheld in gaming’s (still short) history, but Nintendo has anything but smooth sailing in front of itself when it launches the maiden voyage of the next generation later this year."

I hope it doesn't fail, but I don't think it'll do as well as the Wii

-Superman-1909d ago

Well, if company fails, then next console will be better.
Company never cant learn from mistake, if it wont fail.
I want Nintendo fail next gen, Sony needs more money, beucase they make so many games and care about their fans, while Nintendo cares about money and dosent care about fan!!!

dark-hollow1909d ago

Delusion at it finest.

Sony aren't the holy saints of gaming, all three companies can be greedy mofos.

ChickeyCantor1909d ago

" beucase they make so many games and care about their fans"

I would care for my consumers as well. Let's not forget that they are THE income of my production line.

@Eternalb

I hope it doesn't fail, but I doubt it'll do as well as the Wii. It's going to sell simply because it's Nintendo, but they have so much going against them from the competition as well as within Nintendo I'm having a hard time understanding the need or wanting to buy a Wii U.

I can buy a PS3 or 360 for $199 if not less this holiday vs. a $250 (likely $299) Wii-U. Both consoles have a huge library of games, and offer some advantages over the Wii-U such as established online networks, great 3rd party support, as well as comparable HD experiences, bouns points for PS3 Blu Ray (although the Wii-U is better at HD gaming). Add in PSVita and Smart Glass, and Wii-U isn't looking so new.

Then you have Ouya at $99, which is offering a F2P gaming experience. For casual gamers the Ouya is more than enough for them. The Ouya is also getting so pretty good 3rd party support and with the announcement of Onlive it already has better 3rd party support than the Wii-U, and again it's capable of offering a decent HD gaming experience, with a touch screen controller.

Finally the PS4, Nextbox, or hopefully Playbox 360 is likely launching late 2013, bringing in true Next gen gaming, and when that happens most 3rd party developers are going to move on from the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii-U camp over to the new console(s).

All the console manufacturers are in a tight spot, but Nintendo and the Wii-U are in an odd place right now. They need to explain why people need a Wii-U for the holidays, and beyond, because currently there's nothing exciting about the Wii-U besides potential HD versions of some Nintendo franchises and Zombie-U. There's very little Wii-U information and the console is launching in less than 4 months.

@dragonairfight

It's ignorant people like you that ruin this site. Let respond to your ignorance in 2 post starting with Ouya.

"the ouya has pretty good third party support? Better than the wii u with onlive?"

If you could read I wrote the Ouya already has better 3rd party support than the Wii-U, thanks to the addition of Onlive which will be there Day 1 for the Ouya.

https://www.onlive.com/game...

To save you from having to check the link, thus wasting even more of your few remaining brain cells, I'll make a list for you.

Ouya with Onlive support means the following games will be there day 1:

Alpha Protocol
Assassin's Creed 2
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
Assassin's Creed Revelations
Batman Arkham Asylum
Batman Armored Edition
Bioshock
Borderlands
The Darkness 2
Darksiders
Dead Island
Deus Ex: Human Revolution Augmented Edition
Dirt 3
EA Sports
Fear 2
Fear 3
Hitman 2
Hitman Blood Money
Homefront
Just Cause
Just Cause 2
Kane & Lynch 2
L.A. Noire: Complete Edition
Limbo
Mafia 2
Metro 2033
Ninja Blade
Prince of Persia
Red Faction Armageddon
Red Faction Guerilla
Saints Row 2
Saints Row 3
Splinter Cell Conviction
Split Second
Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition
Unreal Tournament 3
Warhammer 40,000
The Witcher Enhanced Edition

And hundreds more. Best of all you can play Unlimited games on Onlive for $9.99 a month.

Now add the games from Android Marketplace. Even excluding all the bad clones of games, and you still have hundreds of games. And even if they only use Android HD games there are still some great games there, as this link shows.

Top 20 Android HD Games

Tegra 3 gaming (The force behind Ouya)
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Dead Trigger (Probably the best game running on Tegra 3)
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Now add F2P and browser based games which are also coming to Ouya.

And it's an open source console.

LMAO, you people who "Pretend to know what you're talking about" are a waste of space / profile on this site. THe only thing going against Ouya is brand recognition.

ABizzel11909d ago

As far as new console launches.

The Wii-U is launching with a bunch of "core games" that are already on the PS3 and 360, or will be before the console even hit stores. Example, Batman, Assassin's Creed 3, Ninja Gaiden, Darksiders, Tekken, Trine...

The purpose of the Wii-U was to continue the Wii's success, and fulfill the core. I'm a fair believer in giving a product a chance as I said,

"@Eternalb, I hope it doesn't fail, but I doubt it'll do as well as the Wii."

Look at the 3DS during it's launch. Struggled.

Look at PS Vita. Struggling.

People aren't jumping up to buy new consoles anymore. For the simple fact people don't have the money to blow, and they realize consoles are bad investments at launch because you generally have very little to play after you beat the games you want. And if you already have a PS3 or 360, then there's even less incentive to pick up a Wii-U at launch. And even if you don't you can still get many of the Wii-U launch titles on PS3 and 360 for $50 - $150 less and have more to play than a few games if you're looking into buying a new console.

Your name suggest you're a Nintendo Fanboy desperately trying to protect them from all sources they aren't aware of, but you're coming off as an ignorant fanboy. Nintendo is in a tough spot with the Wii-U. Nintendo has done a horrible job demonstrating the console (online?, fuure?, potential?), and there's some stiff competition from Current gen consoles, the Ouya, and soon the next gen consoles from MS and Sony.

And as I said,

"All the console manufacturers are in a tight spot"

Stop being a blind fanboy and come back to reality. And that goes to the 7 others who cowardly disagreed. Next gen is going to be problematic for everyone.

Puddlejumper751909d ago

Wow that is a big list of really old games. Hmm buy a Wii U for new games or some other device for the games I was playing 6 years ago...

Seems like an easy choice to me. Sad that your post is filled with ignorance and hate and you feel the need to personally attack people for not just bending to your will.

Sony already stated numerous times the PS4 WILL NOT BE A HUGE LEAP over PS3 yet you claim the exact opposite in your post. Now if that is not complete ignorance I really dont have a clue what is.

ABizzel11909d ago

@puddlejumper

Just like a portion of the Wii-U's launch line-up will be games the are over a year old.

It doesn't matter, because if you were a Wii only owner then you didn't get to play any of those games.

The casual gamer doesn't need more than one console and the Ouya is $99, is nearly comparable to current gen consoles (thanks to Onlive), will have an online service (something Nintendo said they aren't trying to compete with Sony and MS in, so what are they doing?), a touch screen controller (even if it's just for swipe and pinch commands), and hundreds of games Day 1, that they didn't get to play on their Wii.

The Ouya is a convient consoles for the casual and there's really no reason for them to even consider a Wii-U, PS4, or Nextbox, when the Ouya is a viable $99 option FOR CASUAL GAMERS.

And Onlive gets new games every week, not to mention you can move your account onto any computer, laptop, tablet, or even your cell phone and still play (what Sony has been attempting, but still hasn't achieved).

FinalomegaS1908d ago

@ABizzel1 (list of games)

Mighty long list, but you clearly think the brand name of Ouya with Onlive support will do anything against Nintendo and their advertisement?

If you can play core games in HD on a nintendo system and the Nintendo franchises.

They do not need to explain anything, the system is still months away, all development teams can't really say jack. Nothing exciting? I think we should take a hard look at past console launch lineups...

here's the final list of launch games for PlayStation 2:

Armored Core 2 (Agetec, Action)
DOA2: Hardcore (Tecmo, Fighting)
Dynasty Warriors 2 (Koei, Action)
ESPN International Track and Field (Konami, Sports)
ESPN X-Games Snowboarding (Konami, Sports)
Eternal Ring (Agetec, RPG)
Evergrace (Agetec, RPG)
FantaVision (SCEI, Puzzle)
Gun Griffon Blaze (Working Designs, Action)
Kessen (EA, Adventure)
Madden NFL 2001 (EA, Sports)
Midnight Club (Rockstar, Racing)
Moto GP (Namco, Racing)
NHL 2001 (EA, Sports)
Orphen (Activision, RPG)
Q-Ball Billiards Master (Take-Two Interactive, Simulation)
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2 (Midway, Sports)
Ridge Racer V (Namco, Racing)
Silent Scope (Konami, Shooter)
Smuggler's Run (Rockstar, Racing-Adventure)
SSX (EA, Sports)

X-Squad (EA, Action)

The full list, posted here alphabetically Xbox ( not 360), includes:

Amped 3 (2K Games)
Call of Duty 2 (Activision)
Condemned (Sega)
Dead Or Alive 4 (Tecmo)
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Bethesda)
Final Fantasy XI (Microsoft)
Full Auto (Sega)
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter (Ubisoft)
Gun (Activision)
Kameo: Elements of Power (Microsoft)
Madden NFL 06 (EA)
NBA 2K6 (2K Games)
NHL 2K6 (2K Games)
The Outfit (THQ)
Perfect Dark LE (Microsoft)
Project Gotham Racing 3 (Microsoft)
Quake 4 (Activision)
Ridge Racer 6 (Namco)
Saints Row (THQ)
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland (Activision)
Top Spin 2 (2K Games)

Can go and pull the rest out but you see, the launch line ups aren't anything to get excited for as the devs making their 1st gen games.

As for this article, this is non sense as we have a new "why it will fail"... only F'ing thing i can see is why only 4 reason as the other articles have a few. soon it'll be 101 reasons why nintendo will fail, wiiu is crap, nintendo stocks down to 1$...

Danja1909d ago (Edited 1909d ago )

It won't fail it won't be a big seller like the Wii but it will still do pretty well, the tablet controller won't be a big hit like the Wii mote which is what made the Wii stood out back in the day.

iamnsuperman1909d ago

Which is why I think Nintendo should avoid advertising the tablet controller as its main function. Casual are not stupid and they know this will be an expensive purchase if you want a tablet as it really isn't tablet and very limiting in those features. I think they should advertise the games as its main selling point (mixture of the core and family games) with social features.

Lyr1c1909d ago

I disagreed once I saw "Casuals are not stupid".

yabhero1909d ago

The arguments here are PITIFULLY weak... its so sad that there are so many articles like this. I guess WiiU will fail in the same way the Wii/DS/3DS did...

LOL

mike1up1909d ago (Edited 1909d ago )

Yea... it is sad, but also quite funny.

This gen, Nintendo committed a crime that "these people" will never forgive them for. Nintendo outsmarted them. The Wii and DS, with inferior hardware, kicked ass this gen. (And) None of these so-called experts ever saw it coming.

Imo too many people have equated bashing Nintendo with having knowledge about the video game industry. Just look at "analyst" Michael Patcher. In any other profession, Patcher would have been fired years ago. You can't even keep a job at McDonald's if you get orders wrong ALL of the time.

PopRocks3591909d ago

People sang the same song about the Wii, DS and 3DS. At this point I'm getting bored of the negativity. Gamers just love to hate things it seems.

Sono4211909d ago

I agree it's seriously just getting boring to read. They keep saying the same repetitive pathetic excuses for why its going to fail. No matter how many times you say it to yourself isn't going to make it true.

Ben_Grimm1909d ago

*whew* I was getting worried, we haven't had a WiiU Doom article in a while on N4G.

I hope WiiU won't fail, I am itching for Nintendo to back to the glory of the SNES days.

dafegamer1909d ago

ok first 3ds, then Vita and now the WiiU. Sorry that I have to do this but WTF is wrong with Critics nowadays

mamotte1909d ago

You forgot Ouya. It's doomed, too.

darkgod1909d ago

well that me be true XD...

Sono4211909d ago

Can you please explain the Ouya a little bit to me? I'm very curious and want one but I don't know enough. Is there a yearly fee? Do I need to have an android phone? Because it seems to good to be true. I pay $140 for a console (That's the version I would get) and then I get to play a bunch of free games?
