Eurogamer: Could PEGI combat the inevitable next-gen "the violence is so real!" media outcry?

Next generation graphics will be even more believable; violence and gore even more real. If Parliament debates Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 today, then what can we expect tomorrow?

Understanding?

That's what UKIE - the UK interactive entertainment trade body of publishers and developers - hopes. (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Culture, Industry, Next-Gen, PEGI, UKIE)

Its education about games thats needed for parents.

Its something that will probably get better as time moves on, the average age of a gamer is now above 30 and has been for a while, within a generation most parents will probably have had experience with games and so will understand how to manage the way their children play.

This will hopefully aid in the issue of parents letting kids barely into their teens play COD games, and then blaming the developers when they hear their kids swearing and shouting into their mics through the door...

If a game says its for 50/18+ then take it seriously, and at least research the game before buying it. Its laziness thats the core of the problem.
