Ubisoft ‘Uplay’ DRM Exposed as Rootkit, Poses Security Risk
GR: "'Uplay' installs a rootkit on Windows PC systems, allowing certain websites to gain full and unfettered access to affected computers."
(PC, Ubisoft)
Lol a disagree.. nice to see someone from Ubi's upper management checks here. Seriously though, anyone who thinks this is okay might as well just take their clothes off, bend over and let whoever walks by fuck them in the ass.
This isn't the least bit surprising. Ubisoft are fucking dicks for how they treat the PC fan base - I flat out just stopped buying any of their games past assassins creed because I'm tired of installing a game and then installing ten thousand extra programs that we all KNOW are stealing our personal information and selling them to organ harvesting cults.
And Ubisoft won't be held accountable for this, in fact I don't even think they should, they're doing what works from a business perspective and it's us and our stupid asses that let things like this work. This little trick probably earnt them a couple of million...the things I would for that money. I won't hold anything against them but I will hold it against the idiots who keep buying DRM ridden crap only to be surprised that the company selling it doesn't always have the best intentions.
Yay... let's sell our freedom to capitalists in return to stopping piracy, WHAT'S THIS!? PEOPLE WHO EARN MONEY ONLY HAVE MONEY IN THEIR BEST INTERESTS? WHERE'S MY KIDNEY AND WHY DO ADVERTS KNOW I HAVE A FOOT FETISH!? NOOOO!
No no; you see, when a big corporation does it, it's called a root-kit. They get a good finger wagging and everybody moans about it for two days, then they show us a pretty trailer and we all forget about it.
When a normal person does it, they are now a hacker, and the FBI must get involved and they have to be criminally prosecuted. The big corporations all wag their fingers and make sure he never sees day light again and even a few easily led people join in like corporate cheerleaders. They may even get laws passed so that these people get even harsher penalties and the corporations affected get whatever money they think they deserve. Everybody cheers, justice is served.
No offense but that's a typical moron response... that's always the case though isn't it? Everything is A+++ fine until someone gains access to your bank account/bank cards/credit cards and personal information and then you're left pointing your finger complaining.
And no that's not even exaggerating. From the sounds of it, this problem would make it fairly easy to exploit and steal your personal information.
@rank: Well maybe you don't mind having your rights as a consumer violated but most of us don't just roll over and say "Nothing bad has happened yet, it must be ok then". Maybe when you wake up and realize that all of this is bad it will be too late and all of this will be legal and commonplace and whatever private files, pics, vids, political opinions and whatever else are free game for anyone with power to come and sniff through. I seriously pity you and the millions like you.
Just disable the plugin on your browser and you should be okay. Still doesnt excuse this i already hated Uplay because of the very crappy cloudsaving where you can lose like 10 hours of gameplay.
Backdoor's and Rootkits oh my..Lol if your that worried about privacy, than your really need to look no further than the PC that has windows installed. Any company and every company that makes product's such as these most likely does have a backdoor into your system.

On Monday, Richard Schaeffer, the NSA's information assurance director, told the Senate's Subcommittee on Terrorism and Homeland Security that the agency had partnered with the developer during the creation of Windows 7 "to enhance Microsoft's operating system security guide."
Now you may ask there is not one shred of proof that is the case, and you are 100% right,There is no proof, that does not mean it's not there and notice i said Most likely.
I just would not put it past them to do it. you can trust Corporations and Govt' bodies just as much as you can trust them to be Corporations and Govt. bodies!

NSA key to Windows an open question
September 03, 1999
CNN Microsoft operating systems have a backdoor entrance for the National Security Agency, a cryptography expert said Friday, but the software giant denied the report and other experts differed on it.
The chief scientist at an Internet security company said Microsoft built in a key for the nations most powerful intelligence agency to the cryptographic standard used in Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT4 and Windows2000.
To use cryptographic applications in Windows, users must load its cryptography architecture in a standard called CryptoAPI.
So a report comes out just a month after this one and
"On Monday, Richard Schaeffer, the NSA's information assurance director, told the Senate's Subcommittee on Terrorism and Homeland Security that the agency had partnered with the developer during the creation of Windows 7 "to enhance Microsoft's operating system security guide."
Oh no do not worry about anything we do not build into our code any backdoor's.
yet:
TOM-SKYPE is in use and the GOVT of china can record your voice data of course this is the company compliance with the local GOVT!
LOL. Ubifail screwing over legitimate customers yet again. Thankfully, there are too many great games to play and not enough time, so I avoid the problem entirely simply by not purchasing (or pirating) any of their games.
U-Be_Sh!t being a bunch of manipulative @sshole$, as usual. No surprise there.
Seriously, what PC gamer trusts a company that deliberately delays their PC version releases, claiming some DXwhatever features being late in development, and then almost a year later, releases a bug/glitch ridden cr@p infested with a draconian DRM and still have the nerve to complain about piracy being the main reason they're not able to sell 10 million copies for each game?
well at least i can get uplay to work unlike origin silent hunter 5 had no probs i have crysis 2 and bf3 cant play either cause my modem doesnt like origin lols.

See the difference?
Not cool Ubi.
Rootkits kill the girl-wood Ubi.
