Top 10 Shooters Worth Playing... Again

"I find some decent cover and take inventory. An Ammo check and special weapons check is in order and I need to wait for my Specials to recharge. This was intense, but I survived. I’m ready to keep going. I don’t know who or what’s coming next, but my adrenaline and senses are heightened..."

The above scenario is repeated thousands of times a day in online games or campaigns.

Compiled are the Top Ten Shooters Worth Playing Again. These may not be the so called “cream of the crop”. They’re not the Battlefield 3’s or the Call of Duty’s, but to some, these games hold a special place in our gaming library. And while the whole world may not be playing them, we are, and some of our friends are. And that’s all we care about. So slip that game in, and let’s go soldier! (BioShock 2, Bulletstorm, Crysis 2, iD Software, PC, PS3, Tag Invalid, Xbox 360)

Singularity, Vanquish and Rage. Awesome yet overlooked. If you haven't played them do yourself a favor and check them out.

I thought Singularity was pretty well done as well. I have Vanquish, but haven't played it yet. It's one of the next ones on my list. I also thought Dark Sector was not too bad of a shooter either. It was kind of like Gears of War's not-so-talented sibling, but still well worth the $7.99 I paid for it.

Out of the three you mentioned i only played RAGE and its fun and all and the actual gameplay is pretty fun and the guns are awesome but the actual story falls flat. I thought it was quite boring overall even though it was super pretty and the MUTANT BASH TV guy was awesome. I think the fact that your character is a MUTE kills the experience, it feels like i'm just doing everyone's busy work.

man vanquish is so damn underrated
ChickenOfTheCaveMan  +   1096d ago
Singularity is weird, you don't understand why it was overlooked but at the same time you kinda do, even more so if you played Bioshock.

Same kind of game, but Bioshock is great, Singularity felt short.

Vanquish > Singularity > Rage. With Rage being decent enough.

Killzone 2 is top on my list..

Where is Halo?
This looks more like the top 10 shooters to avoid.
BiggCMan  +   1096d ago
Why? Because critics didn't praise them like the second coming of Jesus? I've played 4 or 5 of the games here, and they were each good in many different ways. A lot of times, the games that don't get as much attention can be very good, even surpassing the big blockbuster titles. Thought Left 4 Dead 2 and Crysis 2 were actually big blockbuster titles according to the press and most people.

These sites sometimes try to appear "cool" by leaving out the big names.
X-Factor  +   1095d ago
The site has significant content on the big names.

Halo 4
Borderlands 2
Battlefield 3
Medal of Honor Warfighter
Max Payne 3
Assasin's Creed 3
Black Ops 2

I dunno, does it get any bigger than that?

Killzone 2 and Bioshock, the best.
M_Prime  +   1096d ago
Definitely BIOSHOCK!.. that is such a good game.

kz2 was sick too.

Some shooters I love still to play:
BF2 modern combat (can't get online, is this finished? Any can tell me?)
Lost planet 2 (just brought this again, forgot how good this is.)
Killzone 2,3 (great games underrated)
Alien v predator (underated, good shooter)
Black (great sound)
Doom 3 (scares the shit out of me)
BF 1943 (great fun)
Resistance 1, 2, 3 (just got all these and love them.)
Ghost recon (xbox1)
Halo (any)
Not to everyones taste but good shooters never the less.

BF2 Modern Combat servers were indeed shutdown. personally i think a server should be up as long as the current gen lasts for that console. anything else should be illegal. if no one is playing it then have 1 server. it should be manditory as that is what we are paying for initially.

Compiling this list was no easy task. There are so many great shooters that don't get the kind of recognition they should.

Partly because they don't have big budget advertisement.

The multiplayer aspect of some shooters really makes them stand out, but it's really nice sometimes to find a shooter that focuses on single player campaign with a good story.

The article attempts to highlight which of these games is a good mutiplayer option and which is more single player focused.

With the coming release of the upcoming Black Ops 2, Borderlands 2, Halo 4, and MOH Battlefield, the games on this list should be pretty cheap to pick up.

This is not a bad group of shooters to have in your arsenal.

Of the 10 games listed, i've played and completed 5 of them. I still need to get 2 more achievements in Bulletstorm, so that kinda makes 6 games.

Singularity's multiplayer was pretty good, but it'll never reach the blockbuster crowd.

* I'm not a fan of Left 4 dead.
* Fear 3 went too far away from its roots.
* Crysis 2 probably had some of the most poor support i've seen, and it was overall a worse game than the first.
* No opinion on Section 8, but it did look interesting.

No shooter list is complete without a Gears of War title. Especially an Xbox 360 shooter list, like this article presents.

The article never once mentions what system this list is for. And while that image at the top IS Xbox-based, I wouldn't call the Fable games shooters. And only Left 4 Dead is console exclusive, so that angle doesn't fit, either.

The article also makes it very clear that it's not about the top shooters out, but rather those that don't get the same sort of publicity or fanfare as those at the top. And guess what: the two games YOU want to see (Halo and Gears) don't exactly fly under the radar, so they're naturally not on the list.

Being able to read isn't enough; you also have to UNDERSTAND what you're reading.

You sure it's not just a bad list?

Bioshock 2, Crysis 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 didn't go under the radar.

I also figured this was Xbox only which is why i only mentioned Halo and left off TimeSplitters, Killzone 2 and Resistance:FOM.

I hope Rage gets a sequel with traditional MP. The gunplay in that game is amazing. Rage has the potentially to be a AAA franchise with the proper care
Stansolo  +   1094d ago
You know what, your dead right!
I loved this game when I first started playing it but then all of a sudden it was all over. It seems to me this game that there was so much in it but little to do, needed more missions and a better story line.
The ending of the game was so rushed, I did not even know what was going on or what it was all about...lol. RAGE 2 needed please.
glennco  +   1095d ago
the modern shooter i have replayed most would be bad company 1. don't know why, just whenever i was bored i would play through it again, maybe it was the freedom and the fact that it was basically MP training unlike the linear crap these days

Just bought crysis 2 for 15 bucks. Gonna give that a go. Personal reviews were all over so I waited till its dirt cheap case it sux.
