Why Vanquish is One of the Best Shooters I’ve Ever Played

Leviathyn's Cassidee Moser was suffering from major third-person shooter fatigue...until she played Vanquish. Read on to find out what changed her mind. (PS3, Vanquish, Xbox 360)

Bought it used for 14 bux and returned it the day after. Action was good. It's like a next-gen version of Einhander. But the story was garbage, which ruined my motivation to continue playing. I understand why people like it though.

The gameplY in this was awesome. Although I highly recommend playing it in Japanese with English subtitles. The English voice over acting does not transition well. This is a Japanese game. Play it like you would watch a Japanese film.

The game plays very well once you understand it's mechanics. Story is fine really i think and the main characters at least are believable enough. Some slightly odd moments of conversation that you can put down to the crossover from Japanese not working so well

Sometimes this game play so incredibly well that i think it's the perfect example of the genre - certainly Vanquish's version of Firefight is - and other times it's an 8/10. It depends on how much you learn to embrace it's differences rather than play it just like a shooter

Glance over it or play this just the once however is to miss the point much like a percentage of people would have done for Bayonetta

I don't know why Platinum Games does this. There games have SOOOO much potential for good stories. In Vanquish, I would have liked to see how Sam went from star football player to a one man wrecking crew. I like characters that have DEPTH. The more connected I am with them, the more meaning the action will have.

Couldn't agree more. Although with Vanquish, I felt like it made up for its mediocre story with awesome gameplay. A good story would have made it fantastic.

^^Yeah, its a good game, but it had potential to be fantastic.

this game is another reason why Gears series is overrated

Overrated by whom? Gears is a fantastic shooter with tons of replay value.

I don't know why a game with a much better of TPS feel get overshadowed by games which only targeted for bro gamers who only buy yearly release of COD,Gears, previously Halo or any kind generic shooters.I had just realised that a large marketing campaign could win over casual gamers anyway.people don't care if the games have anything new over previous series as long as they are popular and provide good online experience.
Great game, surely one of the best this gen, but I preferred Binary Domain ;)

Anyway I strongly recommend both if you still have to play them!

Vanquish'd was amazing to me
I was reminded of Bubble gum crisis or one of the very over the top Mech suit animes like "S-Cry Ed" he game plays well! and i didn't mind its story Coming from Shinji makami I expected Action so tense it was almost damning and light story!

Platinum Games did an exceptional Job! And Yes I played this in Japanese with English subtitles! It was an amazing 5 hours, heard it could be completed in 3! Fantastic game. i hope Platinum does an Vanquish'd 2 and really takes the story just as serious as the Gameplay!

Vanquish was one of the few games this generation that really made me throw caution to the wind. I mean the game had cover and you could play it like a traditional shooter but no other titles encouraged me to play so recklessly.

If I saw soldiers, I'm thrusting over with my shotgun. Enemy sends in a transport, I'm already over their heads with a rocket launcher. However if I see a tank or anything bigger, I am running on foot and taking that mother lover out with my bare hands!!!!

It's very hard to hate on Kenshiro's favourite game.
