Should Gaming Sites Wait Longer to Review Online Games?

MMORPGs and other online only titles are meant to be viable for months, if not years, after release. They’re subject to constant changes, have become increasingly expansive, and by default, more expensive to produce. Problem is, they’re also becoming more difficult to properly review. Shouldn't big name gaming sites wait longer to review them? (Diablo III, IGN, Industry, PC, Star Wars:The Old Republic)

Absolutely.

I think any site should just wait to review games especially if they take away points from glitches so they can give time to the devs to create patches.

Online games should also not be reviewed immediately since you can't experience the whole thing in just a couple of hours.

Once upon a time there was no such thing as patches, and publishers and developers had to ensure that they had gotten rid of all the glitches and bugs via thorough testing before the game was released.

Maybe pubs/devs should stop treating early adopters as beta testers, and then they've have better release day reviews.

Once upon a time games were FAR less complex and had a much smaller user base.

yep. at least for MP focused games. if they play the ENTIRE campaign of something like metal gear solid then sure review it. At least finish the damn thing, thats my problem. "ehhh...5 hours of skyrim...good enough."

No, reviews are ment for people who haven't really looked into a they are interested in buying. It gives them insite on the strengths and weaknesses of the gameplay, story, online. Game Reviews shouldn't be bias or compare one game to any other game they also should get rid of the whole number system entirely because now people look at a 7 as terrible. What game sites SHOULD do is revamp the review system and make sure the people they assign to review a game 1)has a slight interest in the game and 2) can be able to play a game with an open mind and not what he/she expects the game to be

I always wish gaming reviewers would at least update their review/score in case the game get patched and fixed. Most games get low scores because of bugs and problems that get fixed later with patches

No, reviews should not wait. Games just need to start launching in a complete and polished state, MMO ot not!

Yes.

BF Bad Company 2 and BF3's launch day server issues was one of the main reasons that a lot of reviews used to drop its overall score.

When it come Diablo 3, a number of sites actually waited for the patches to come out and the server problems were never considered when giving out the overall score.

BF3's server issues : a terrible thing, affects score.
Diablo 3's server issues : an unfortunate event, doesn't affect score.

so companies get to launch games in a broken state, and it's all ok?

Yes...no...maybe...I don't know. Depends on the game and the hype, I guess.

Arma and Arma 2 were released in such poor states but they are still selling today. Reviewers and non-sim gamers bitch about their flaws but their fans are already aware and ready for those imperfections. Negative reviews be damned and wait for the patches.

Reviews for MMOs or online components should be open and not be the final say of the games' true form. Of course broken games should never be released to the unsuspecting public but there are just tons of unexpected things that could go wrong.

Unless of course those mistakes are blatant signs of laziness (poor game designs). Then we could burn that game to the ground.

Yes, I feel all reviews should wait longer. The problem is it makes and has made a culture of me firsts and that leads to them rushing and not taking time to really grasp a game.

Especially for online games, how can they tell you if it is good or not if they havent played it in its optimal state.
