Are Gamers Insane?

ZI writes: Those of you who are familiar with the upcoming Far Cry 3 would recall one of the gameplay trailers released to promote the game’s themes, earlier this year. Granted, Far Cry 3 is a game that is not coming to a Nintendo platform, so this might not feel at all relevant to you. Never mind that though, this article has nothing to do with Far Cry, really. Just bear with me here, guys - I’m trying to build to a discussion point.

I came across a rather interesting written piece regarding the subcultures of gamers and the industry, and to say that the article exclaimed my own inner thoughts regarding the current state of these groups would be an understatement. To claim that all gamers are insane is obviously a huge generalisation and over-exaggeration, but the article still managed to speak what I consider to be a largely unspoken truth.

Allow me to quote for you Far Cry 3 - and be wary of particularly strong language.

Think of the following games and keep hearing the dialogue in your head.

1. MOBA-Dota 1/2, LoL, HoN etc- repeat the same level over and over again and do the same thing

2. MMO- Wow, Swtor,etc -grind over and over again

3. MP Shooters- BF,COD etc -shoot again and again and again

Theres always a minority of people who arn't stable in the head who enjoy hobbies and I would say that gamers probably don't have a majority of insane gamers so therefore your answer is NO gamers are not.

I reckon gamers are less likely to be insane, I use gaming to relax and same with my friends we work hard and train hard and gaming is used as our down time.

I would argue less than 2% because they'll always be bad apples, in wherever or whatever you do. The only reason why it seems common is because those people get more media attention than 'sane' gamers.
