Metal Gear Creator Hideo Kojima on 25 Years of Hiding in Boxes, Eating Rations, Snakes and Foxes

I can’t remember the last time I shared an article here on Technabob, but for Hideo Kojima, I’m willing to making an exception. This month marks the 25th year of the Metal Gear series of videogames, and the PlayStation blog was able to interview Kojima for a surprisingly honest retrospective.

Such an overrated franchise that just won't die.

How so? its an amazing complex story line. The parallels it makes with history, the world that's created, and its innovation with how the games is played as well. Its doesn't get enough praise. Well maybe praise isn't the greatest word, but its definitely and amazing series of games, even the handheld versions are kick ass.
not sure if you've played it, or which ones you've played, I guess it may not be your kinda genre of games, but its not overrated. granted it does flood the internet when something new about it, its almost like Apple in that sense. But the series is without a doubt amazing. its quite ground breaking. plus the experience of playing MGS4 was just phenomenal because it tops everything off.

I only ever played MGS2 and MGS4.
Oh and before everyone starts shouting 'OMG OMG YOU NEVER EVEN PLAYED THE BEST ONE IN THE FRANCHISE OMG OMG YOU'RE SUCH A TROLL'
I watched the entire MGS3 game on youtube, and I don't think the games are bad, they're good at best but the amount of praise they get is just way far beyond what they deserve.
The story may be complex but that doesn't make it good, it's just a mindf*ck that is more annoying than anything.
Also this is coming from a guy that understood inception by watching it once and still hated it.

I understand that you may not like it, a lot of people don't, but that doesn't mean it's overrated.

How a game is rated is about quality, not popularity.

Also to consider is that different genres may be rated differently. So maybe you really don't like some aspect in MGS and believe they decrease the quality (would be overrated), but those may not be part of the main aspects a reviewer evaluates when rating a stealth action game.

More importantly, we all have our tastes and different concepts of what is good or bad, hence quality can be considered subjective to some extent... So I'm not disagreeing with you even I think you are out of your mind! :P

I tend to agree that its an overrated series, I actually like the first and third game in the series. I think its funny when people call others stupid if they don't "get" or "enjoy" the story aspects of Metal Gear games. I don't think they are too complicated, just a bit too drawn out and at times boring.

Still, I see and respect that the series has its fans and it has been a pretty big part of gaming's past.

That made me LOL hard too, I mean, I'm not the sharpest tool of the set, but the only movie I ever had to watch twice to get the story was the first Matrix, in 1999, I was 12 years old and not much tech savy, so I got lost trying to get what matrix was and what the hell each character was doing there... And I'm not proud of it now I realize how simple it is, I wouldn't brag about understanding it the first time.

I also think it is overrated, but the series is above average. I love the effort they put into the games. That alone is worth buying.
