GR: "Journey is still my game of the year. It had some challengers, to be sure. Max Payne 3, Dragon's Dogma, and even Ghost Recon: Future Soldier were contenders. Mass Effect 3 has come and gone, and yet I still think more fondly of Journey, though that might not because of the game so much as the "fans".
But why? What makes thatgamecompany so special? What makes the little red-hooded figure so memorable?"
Journey, from start to finish, was a unique and artistic interactive experience. It wasn't governed by corporate politics and it showed that ingenuity is still alive and well in the gaming industry and gamers helped make it one of the best selling games on the PS3 because of that. Definitely the best of 2012.
Come on man.

Substance within style.
You should at least give it a chance, if you see more to a game than the basic functions of its gameplay, you'll love, imo it's one the best/most unique games this year.
@Drekken
Sometimes there is more of an experience to be had in games than blowing up buildings and shooting people in the face repeatedly.
Journey plays on stuff like isolation, how you can connect and feel a tight bond with someone who you don't even know their name and only met minutes previously.
People who brand games that are artistic and thought provoking "boring" should just not talk about the game to others at all since it's neither enjoyed by, or aimed at your market.
This game isn't boring. It is an artistic, thought-provoking experience, and if you can't see the beauty in Journey, then you need to take a look at what you value in a gaming experience.
But don't let me get you THINKING. Go shoot some guns for awhile... brainlessly.
Also the music is awesome.
People can keep saying how it's so beautiful and artistic but I don't find looking at pretty images to be fun. If I did, I'd go to the local art museum. It may be visually appealing but it's not why I play video games. If visually appealing was all that mattered in games, we'd all be graphics whores.
To each their own, I guess.
Action is overused to the extent it doesn't actually feel dangerous anymore, where as Journey uses it sparingly, so that when it does, it actually has more effect and adds to the experience.
It's just one of those games that's really difficult to describe or even understand by watching a let's play.
Just have to chance your hand and actually play it to understand it really, it's not everone's cup of tea.
but then I played Gravity Rush.
but then I played Malicious.
