It's definitely inconsistent with the mindset they seemed to have leading up to and shortly following Skyrim's release. It was all about the PC audience then.
So... Microsoft isn't using money to develop some new exclusive IPs but they are spending their money with timed DLC trying to disturb some other players? It's not something that will make me buy a x360, it's somtething that will make me hate Microsoft even more. lol
Well I guess they are in the market for money and if M$ offered them crap load then yeah, they were going to go that route. There are sooooooooo many games on PS3 (and I am sure on PC too). I mean, my backlog keeps piling up on me. Timed DLC doesn't bother me anymore. If there were too few games then yeah, I'd be frustrated but since there are so many games out there, this shouldn't be a big problem.
I just got my hands on HEAVY RAIN GOTY edition with all the DLC and everything plus 30 days PS PLUS trial from Amazon for only $19.99 and I was THAT close picking up Dead Island (also $19.99).
Yeah first they announce a 30 day exclusive DLC deal for Xbox and crap all over PS3 and PC fans and now they crap on us even more with a long Exclusive time. Well my copy of Skyrim is getting traded in tomorrow. I've waited a few months for the DLC so whats another 6 months for when they release a GOTY edition that will cost less than all the DLC packs combined..
You do realize that every bethesda GOTY edition has sold for 45 euros over here and each DLC pack will cost 15 euros if Dawnguards price is an indicator, so if they release 3 DLC packs thats the price of a GOTY edition minus the 19 euros I got earlier for my copy of Skyrim.
So yes in a way I am giving Bethesda my money twice but I'm getting 19 euros for it back, all the DLC will be on disk, there will be one more used copy for people to choose from, there might be 4 DLC packs which is saving even more money and all I had to do is wait which is something us PS3 and PC gamers have been doing already.
Waiting ain't a problem when your accustomed to it.
meh doesn't matter much to me anymore since i traded in my copy about 2-3 months ago. i did pretty much all in wanted in the game, but it was getting boring with the constant fetch quests, and once you've killed a dragon it pretty much becomes been there, done that.
Hey, if they don't want more of my money, fine. I'll just download mods.
And if Microsoft wants to spend more than DLC exclusivity is worth (eg. GTA4, spending more than the DLC made back), it's their investors' losses...Microsoft stock hasn't hardly gone anywhere in 12 years.
Of the three console manufacturers, only Nintendo a pure player has any significant gain in the last decades.
Sony for instance has a 20-year low stock and accounting for inflation it looks even worse! It's also close to it's 1-year low so things hasn't improved.
MS is stagnated in the last decade after all the anti-trust BS, but has been on a short term upswing recently and close to both it's 5-year and 1-year high so it is definitely improving.
The E&D division that houses Xbox 360 is making money hand over fist with little pricing pressure right now.
Microsoft funded the GTA IV DLC's development with a $50 million loan, of which Rockstar paid back in its entirety. That was always the agreement, and it benefitted both parties in the end.
Lol while you are angry over here, I have already played and beaten Dawnguard on my Xbox 360, and let me tell you, it makes Skyrim much more funner, and expands it more to future DLCs
Because MicroSoft doesn't care enough to make exclusives with as much time, effort, originality, and solid gameplay as even most multiplatform games despite being so rich.
Yeah, usually the idea with having things timed were so that you could say that it was exclusive for a couple of months, and have people buy your console in the belief that that's the only console getting the content. Then months later the publisher could still release the content on other platforms and cash in. Hence the exclusivity deal wouldn't have to be expensive enough to cover much in terms of lost sales on other platforms, and would still get audience to your console.
Nowadays they just tell people "Yeah, it'll be on other system in a month or so, but our fans will be bored by it by then."
...Where's the fun in that? A little more secrecy please. Or of course you could invest in studios and make your own exclusive content, but no.
"Why waste all that money to have content TIMED when it will end up elsewhere a month or so later?"
What else are they going to do with all that money? Dividends??? LOLOLOLOLOL, get real. It's half a billion dollar ad campaigns, $50 million timed content that gets a slight amount more of market share, and fattening up CEOs for Microsoft!
LMAO @ the all the hypocritical whining about timed DLC that makes it to the 360, when NO ONE said a peep when Sony announced timed DLC for both Assasin's Creed 3 and Far Cry 3 this year.
They BOTH use exclusive DLC to promote games..get over it..it won't be the first or last time it happens for EITHER console..not the end of the world..
Been too busy trying to play other games than Elder Scolls and Mass Effect 3..but definately getting the 'Dawn' DLC this weekend.
I know and look at your disagree to agree ratio! That's a fact!
When the exclusive DLC was announced for PS3, it was practically celebrated here. I think it's just because the DLC is for a damn good game, so some people are upset i.e. they care!
Maybe Bethesda just feels that the Xbox gamers are the only ones who are willing to pay to be beta testers. Now they have time to fix the many problems with this addon before releasing it on the PC and PS3.
for such an optimistic outlook to even works , pc and ps3 version would need to release with less bugs , and yet late patchs and dlc version of any Bethesda of this gen have proven the exact opposite .
Were fallout dlcs less buggy following the exclusivity ? Nope in the slightless way
Not so fast... Please, I'm really asking for the source official announcement link for the PC and PS3 versions. Not being smart here.
Was it real news? or speculation news made up be some desperate fanboys. Anyways thanks in advance.
I can't find any real announcement, only speculation
" PS3 owners, don't despair. Skyrim's Dawnguard will be coming to the PlayStation Network eventually too. The release date for the PlayStation 3 version of Dawnguard hasn't been announced yet, but I'd guess it will be around a month after the 360 version"
Untrue. They just love $$$$$ alot more. I bought it for Xbox because of this and the lack of memory issues. I don't feel bad for pc players though because of the quality and mods available.
Judging buy the amount of comments I'd say this was pretty big news to both PC and ps3 gamers.
If my memory served correctly when the new tombraider was announced to get exclusive dlc for 360, almost nobody gave a sh!t. now there's over a hundred and something comments on this?
Clearly you wouldn't bother to click comment on anything if you frankly just didn't care.
I have to admit from the stuff i've seen on Dawnguard it looks pretty cool.
THIS GAME IS STILL NOT FIXED ON PS3! Timed DLC exclusive whatever BUT TO NOT FIX YOUR GAME???? cmon this is complete bullshit. this game needed to be recalled
it works fine on my ps3 (fingers crossed it stays that way lol), but if its not working on yours then get a refund! i got a refund with assasins creed 1 and fallout 3 due to heavy amount of bugs ect then the shop will (should) report it to the distributor ect so that the publisher shoud hear about it and they probaby listen to losing money lol
no just like activision they like the blank checks MS send them after every COD and Obvilion.
we gamers are so lame ducks guess what bathesda's next game we will again buy day one, we been told by everyone they the only way these publishers listen is if we speak with our wallets. Why is that when ps3 and pc gamers are paying the same money at launch and ps3 version in particular was and is so broken.
just like capcom i don't buy bathesda games new i rather someone on ebay or gamestop make money than these greedy bastards. People hate on EA so much yet everyone else gets a free pass.
Meh. I wasn't going to buy Dawnguard anyway. It didn't get particularly great reviews, and the people I know who played it already agreed that it was so-so.
Personally I don't really mind waiting. I still have plenty to do in Skyrim before I even look at the DLC. Thats without even talking about the quality of this particular DLC itself.. it looks cheap and novel just choosing to overpower enemies with a vampire or a crossbow.. seriously its better off staying on the Xbox. I'm keen to see what's after this one. Anyway, I still haven't finished Morrowind and am more interested in that right now.
They said 360 owners would get the DLC one month early, Dawnguard came out on the 26th of June and it is now the 26th of July...it should be coming out this week.
You know what they kept saying before launch, oh the PS3 version is the same as the 360 version and the PS3 version has nothing but problems since launch. It's like giving a fanbase the middle finger. This is the studio people selected for studio of the year at the VGA's...bet PC/PS3 owners feel pretty stupid now that they voted for them. Well done.
The PC isn't so bad since they have mods to play around with so it isn't as bad but still isn't fair when they used to be the main audience for the Elder Scrolls franchise.
After dumping several hundred hours into Fallout 3 on PS3, I would never recommend buying a Bethesda game on the platform. Not only are they guaranteed to screw you with timed-exclusive deals with Microsoft, but when it finally does arrive on the PS3 it will be largely broken.
Problem is, MikeCosgrove, is that just gives Microsoft even more power to keep the Bethesda IPs on their console. The fact PS3 users don't like the game only gives Bethesda more fuel to partner with Microsoft.
There should be an organization that ranks/rates developers and publishers based on their actions and how they affect the community. If a developer puts out a product on multiple platforms but it is showing signs of support on only one of them, they should be rated poorly for it. If they take forever to fix bugs on one platform over another, the same.
Right now, there's a "who cares?" philosophy considering as long as their largest market share platform is okay the rest is fine as well (especially if they're getting money in addition to game sales). The consumer has no option but to stop buying or to buy on the platform that works. That doesn't do any good but for the platform owner, not the end user or the idea of competition in the market.
I realise this info is a little late/potentially pointless but you can 'install' F3 on the PS3, when you first exit vault 101 pause the game and you'll notice your yellow HD light on your PS3 will be flashing like crazy.
Leave it paused for ten minutes or so (until the yellow light stops flashing constantly) and it will be 'installed'.
If you leave it to do that it becomes almost as stable as the 360 version. If you're running around doing stuff while that 'install' is happening it becomes much more glitchy.
like ive said above, completley agree about fallout and cgoodno thats a brilliant idea, companies only care about there money so my approach when i get a bugged game, fallout, AC1, is to not wait for patches ect i just take it back for a refund because i refuse to pay for a broken product. You wouldnt accept a broken console! I think in general us gamers have become lazy consumers not fighting for improvments, i bet most people who compaing on here about bugs dont even complain striaght to the company or perhaps just dont know there rights..but if we all actually took a stand and took that 5 mins to write an eamail complaining to a publisher or even better getting a refund on broken games then things would change!!!! just look how complaining got us slightly better ME3 ending, we can stop companies treating us like sh*t by simply not letting them get away with it, it hardly happend in previous gens its just the addition of networking has lead devs to be lazy and take the pc approach of patch patch patch...we have done it to ourselves, end rant lol
May as well have been a 360 exclusive game if they planned on treating the other platforms like second-rate consumers.
The PC folks had to mod the game themselves in order to fix the issues in their half-ass port and the PS3 guys had to deal with a buggier version of an already buggy game.
If they wanted to play favorites then they may as well have gone all-in instead of pretending that they were going to treat everyone equally.
@master whatever Well I dont see where all the exclusive DLC or exclusive games are for PS3 right now. I see exclusive DLC for 360 and some exclusive games coming up like Forza or Halo 4 and except for that SSBB I dont see loads of exclusive content coming up on the PS3 this fall.
- All-Stars Battle Royale. Looks like its going to be a blast, and we still haven't seen many of the characters in the roster. - LittleBigPlanet Karting. The largely fun and endless creativity should be obvious. The beta versions for both these games are already out and will be expanding across more territories soon, so the fun is already beginning. - Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and Ratchet & Clank: QForce. Both great looking 3D platformers, which the industry had been sorely missing in recent years. - DUST 514. Deep, pervasive, free-to-play online shooter, with scale that is unmatched on consoles.
@SuperLupe....Here's a short list of games with extra PS3 content.....Notice that it's all free. 2011 - 2012
--DEAD SPACE 2: free Extraction game on the BluRay --MASS EFFECT 2: Free DLC's on the BluRay --PORTAL 2: Free STEAM and free PC and Mac versions --MORTAL KOMBAT: Free Kratos --LA NOIRE: Free Extra Missions on BluRay --BATTLEFIELD 3: Free 1943 download --ASSASSIN'S CREED REVELATION: Free ASSASSIN'S CREED 1 on BluRay --STREET FIGHTER VS. TEKKEN: Free characters on BluRay, and free extra online modes not avail on XBOX 360
**Bioshock Infinite is scheduled for Move support as well as BIOSHOCK 1 on BluRay disk.
@dbut72
Digital Raptor mentioned a fighting game, a racing game, a platformer/action game, and a FPS. What kind of genre interests you?
(Being straight to the point with the genres i mentioned for each game. yeah i'd call sly action too, just cause theres no guns doesnt mean its not action right?)
@Dragon - Go on youtube and look up old multiplatform last gen games and tell which game company you see at the end of the commercial.
If you going to point fingers them also be fair and stop defending Sony for killing the dream cast with making all the 3rd party developers where on the PS2.
I hate 3rd part exclusive but when GTA and FF where announced as mutiplatform I LMFAO!
Was referring to Sony throwing money to get Sega's IP's and timed exclusives. Are you guys really that dense, or are you just desperate to avoid the truth?
"Oh yeah, all that timed-exclusive DLC on PS2 made me so angry." that was desperation because you have nothing, and you know what I said was true. Nice try tough.
That is what MS is doing to Sony with timed DLC and getting once Sony exclusives to go multiplat.
What you're being revisionist in a dangerous way here . Sega screwed themselves up on Dreamcast on several occasion on their own or thanks to EA .
1. Sega 32x failure, and the failure of Sega Saturn in North America. These left a bitter taste in consumers virtual mouths, and many except the hardcore, decided to look elsewhere
2. PS2 hype - Built in DVD player, and the Hype that the PS2 would be the second coming, led people to their welcoming arms. Never mind the fact that in 2000, Dreamcast had a much better lineup.
3. No EA support. Without EA support, this caused some to consider the legitamacy of Sega to be a serious player.
4. No online play until PS2 was almost available. This was Sega's killer app for the dreamcast, and it wasn't handled correctly. THey needed to have the Network available at launch.
5. Lack of funds. Sega was drowning in debt at the time, and didn't have the financial resources to sustain having a presence in the marketplace
6. incoming new consoles.
The dreamcast was actually initially a success , it was mismanaged by Sega japan and sega us that's all .
With 3rd party seeing people go crazy over a dvd player , their choice was enough enough without having to buy most ips .
How do you even know the DLC would even exist without MSFT's money?(sounds like you're almost suggesting MSFT payed for timed exclusive DLC, maybe they purchased the content to begin with and the other versions were a myth)
Kind of the way Sony payed for Co-op in farcry 3 and payed for extra game types in assassin's creed 3. The twitter doesn't sound like much other than they said they have announced nothing and they don't have a date yet and they would tell you if they did. Maybe they wanted console versions of the DLC out first and PC last but PS3 hardware is causing trouble.
Would you rather them to sell out to the PlayStation Babies?? Like many other companies have. There are a few developers that have given the Ps3 crowd Exclusive DLC in the past that has never hit on the 360. But has anyone complained..........NOPE!
It is not about exclusivity, it is about blatantly turning the eye and ignoring your costumers. is it exclusive to Sony / Apple / Ms / etc ... Fine! but let us know and don't just ignore us! it is exactly what valve did with orange box. It ended up biting them in their ars. Bethesda should learn too!
Nope, I intentionally go for the "other" version if there's one with timed exclusive content. It is by far the worst thing in the gaming industry to do in my opinion and needs to be stopped.
Some of the "Dwemer Quest mods" have really opened my eyes to modding as a whole. Most of them alone surpass Dawnguard when it comes to a sense of involvement. Truly impressed and the're all free!! :D
I'm not going to lie.. The add on is dull, mediocre at best, the quests are involving and you feel a sense of emotional attachment but it ends too quickly for my liking. You can get through the vampire quests is less than 8 hours at a push.
Tbh you PS3 players are not missing much, I've been lucky enough to jump into PC gaming and play the "best version" of Skyrim. The mods alone have made it into a whole new game, or at-least it feels that way.
Well, this is the last time I buy a Bethesda game, key word "Buy". Their games aren't worth my money if they have consistent problems and or make their content a timed exclusive. Bethesda is just a money hungry company that doesn't care about the consumer, releasing a bug infested game and waiting for Microsoft to pay a shit ton of money just for a few months of exclusiveness. F**k you, Bethesda!
you pretty much nail it, microsoft's business practices have set some VERY bad precendents in the industry and now the rot is getting so smelly that gamers en masse are complaining about it.
considering the current state of Skyrim on the PS3 it seems almost insulting to release further content.I wouldn't buy it and I doubt I'm alone on that A broken dull chunk of Bethesda's finest Skyrimmery receives an additional broken dull chunk of vampiric monotony to stumble through..... sigh. The technology to produce a spear or medium armor continues to elude us.This series needs an overhaul, never mind timed dlc. Bethesda has lost it's touch and is out of touch
i noticed the blatant shortcut taking in oblivion with the repetitive quests and monotonous caves. This time around they spiffed up the scenery a bit, varied a few more locations but it's still the same boring crap after awhile.
People always say timed exclusives don't matter to them, but when stuff like this happen, people flip out. So obviously most the people saying timed exclusive doesn't matter or doesn't have an effect, are lying.
On a side note, the DLC is quite fun, and I do think enough time has passed. Let the PS3 and PC players have a go already!
Or you could just avoid the DLC and spend that money on a developer that won't be screwing you over again.
Since you'd essentially be spending money on the DLC that will be funding the next Xbox360 timed-exclusive piece of DLC that will get a sloppy port over to the PS3.
I gladly sold this game after I spent 125 hours getting the platinum, and I never looked back. This simply enunciates my decision. Well done, Bethesda, for justifying my resale. Enjoy your Game of the Year.
When Microsoft buys a timed exclusive, part of the deal seems to be that the developer can never even speak of the possibility of it going to another console.
History shows that timed exclusives always go to another console, hence the word "timed".
However, Pete Hines of Bethesda has to act like he doesn't know because that would go against the very reason Microsoft paid so much money to begin with. Other developers in his situation always speak the same way.
I couldn't even finish Skyrim due to boredom, so I couldn't care less, but PS3 and PC folks shouldn't entertain the possibility that this DLC isn't coming.
Typical BS from this Gen If you are a multiplatform developer you need to develop for each platform PERIOD no timed BS you give every platform the same treatment and content you give the others AT THE SAME TIME. This gen has been sickening when it comes to this. I miss the old days where for one you had to develop a complete game to begin with and actually fix your sh!t before you release it. This gen has pretty much been who can give the biggest screaw job and still get away with it.
Cool Story Bethesda, Why doing this on PC though? Skyrim Modding is famous because of PC, you are where your at the moment because of PC... Mods do sell a game i know people who bought Skyrim to mod and to get mods same goes for ARMA
And why the poor folks at PS3 don't get it at same time...?
Why don't we all get it at the same time regardless of the platform... It' so retarded.. if it was tech problems or issue problems on making it.. but it isn't just for $$$$$$$

The twitter doesn't sound like much other than they said they have announced nothing and they don't have a date yet and they would tell you if they did. Maybe they wanted console versions of the DLC out first and PC last but PS3 hardware is causing trouble.
but I will not buy any of the Skyrim DLC
I hate what Bethesda is doing.
if xbox is so important sell your full-games on timed exclusivity.
that way all the sales can be from Xbox...
unimportant players/sales from PS3 and PC dont matter right
I wont forget this
is it exclusive to Sony / Apple / Ms / etc ...
Fine!
but let us know and don't just ignore us!
it is exactly what valve did with orange box.
It ended up biting them in their ars.
Bethesda should learn too!
in less than a year total coversions will be out that make vanilla skyrim look like it was made by a high school kid by himself
mods are where creativity shines
Tbh you PS3 players are not missing much, I've been lucky enough to jump into PC gaming and play the "best version" of Skyrim. The mods alone have made it into a whole new game, or at-least it feels that way.
mmm mmm smell like money, a lot of money
A broken dull chunk of Bethesda's finest Skyrimmery receives an additional broken dull chunk of vampiric monotony to stumble through..... sigh.
The technology to produce a spear or medium armor continues to elude us.This series needs an overhaul, never mind timed dlc.
Bethesda has lost it's touch and is out of touch
On a side note, the DLC is quite fun, and I do think enough time has passed. Let the PS3 and PC players have a go already!
Since you'd essentially be spending money on the DLC that will be funding the next Xbox360 timed-exclusive piece of DLC that will get a sloppy port over to the PS3.
I almost guarantee in Fall.

And why the poor folks at PS3 don't get it at same time...?
Why don't we all get it at the same time regardless of the platform... It' so retarded.. if it was tech problems or issue problems on making it.. but it isn't just for $$$$$$$
I personally find bethesda to be headed by a bunch of jackasses!
