Counterpoint: The End of Mass Effect

GamerNode Editor-in-Chief Eddie Inzauto writes: "Welcome to Counterpoint, the new GamerNode column in which members of the GN staff flex their muscles, brains, and fingers in discussion about the most debatable issues in gaming.

Mass Effect 3 - its ending, specifically – has incited more community backlash surrounding a game than one would have ever imagined coming into the final chapter of such a beloved franchise. But mere days after its release, the internet was ablaze with complaints ranging from simple discontent to outright rage and newfound hatred for developer BioWare.

After such public outcry, BioWare saw fit to release an “Extended Cut” DLC add-on for the game, to hopefully right its “wrongs” in the eyes of a once-loyal fanbase. Was that enough? It was for some, but not for others. Now, without cutting the gloves off, let’s find out what the ‘Node staff thinks. We’ll get to the glue and broken glass another time." (BioWare, EA, Mass Effect 3, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

I am seriously late to this party. I don't even know how Mass Effect 3 STARTS, let alone finishes. :-\ Up until now, though, I'm a franchise fan, and excited for the third installment.

Well, treasure that not-knowing as long as you can. The reality of ME3 is unbearable bad. Sure, the ending got a lot of flak, but the whole game--literally every single aspect--was awful.

don't listen to the guy above me. I just finished ME 3 yesterday and I loved it. I loved the ending (had downloaded the extended cut) I thought it was interesting and worthy of the Mass Effect trilogy.

I don't really understand all the hate, I thought ME 3 was the most enjoyable game of the three with the gameplay beeing a mix between the RPG in ME 1 and action in ME 2.

The Indoctrination Theory is just a lame excuse made by hardcore fans in order to make sense of the makes-no-sense Mass Effect 3 horrible ending, in my opinion.

I've played both ME2 and 3 .. one of the best games I've ever played. The story alone is one of the best stories I've ever seen. I've enjoyed the first 39 hours of ME3 a lot .. I find it hard to believe that they managed to screw all of this in less than an hour.

At first I thought the fans were exaggerating, I had to see for my self that they weren't. But the truth is: It's just some guy from EA who didn't like the original ending and decided he'd write a new one one week before the release. And we're trying to make the fool into a genius.

You call the EC fixed? "oh suddenly the normandy just flies down to the beacon.... Harbinger just lets the ship sit there....
It was a bad attempt. At least we have the marauder Shields comic.
