Halo 4 Boot Camp: the quest for a respectable K/D ratio

OXM ETboy's quest to not be utterly terrible at Halo multiplayer continues... "I tried using Active Camo for a while and just confused myself, hiding in plain sight till the gauge ran down and I popped into view, sheepishly waiting for somebody to do the decent thing. Armor Lock? That's just teabagging with more whizbang, isn't it? And as for holograms - half the time I panic and shoot them myself. Got to focus on the numbers. Suffering is transient, like a woman's charms. Only the numbers endure." (Culture, Halo 4, Halo: Reach, Xbox 360)

I have friends that have a k/d ratio of 5 to 1. I would rather not say what mine is.

Just keep your distance, play smart and learn to know when to commit to a kill and when to back down.

That's a nice way of saying just don't be a dumba** people.

.... and get labelled a camper

Still, a camper with a good KD.

this is not a dig at you or anything by the way, I just hate the way anyone who does anything other then run around like a headless chicken and spray everything in site gets labelled a camper and if you want a good KD in Halo, that is not the way to go about getting one.

I thought we grew up and learned the K/D means absolutely nothing....seems some people didin't get the message
Mainsqueeze  +   300d ago
What? since when did K/D mean nothing? In slayer game types K/D is everything and in objective its not nearly as important but it still means that you are staying alive longer and keeping pressure on the enemy team.
Summons75  +   300d ago
last I checked the only thing that mattered when playing online is winning, nobody gives a crap about who you are or what you do as long as you help your team win
Mainsqueeze  +   300d ago
Well you don't win games by only having 3 kills and like 20 deaths and spending most of the game dead. In a slayer/deathmatch gametype if you don't have a good K/D you aren't helping your team win, bottom line. In objective gametypes a bad K/D is acceptable as long as you have been returning/capturing flags or have been assaulting bases or whatever the objective is, but having a good K/D is still helping your team because you are staying alive longer and impacting the game more than you would be if you were constantly dead and not killing other players. The more players on the other team you kill, the harder it is for them to get organized and make strong pushes for objectives. The only time having a good K/D means nothing is when a player is camping in a corner or something thatss not near any bases/objectives and just sits there waiting for people to walk by and gets meaningless kills that have no impact on the game at hand.

Team Slayer is basically Team Average K/D, where the team with the higher average wins, so obviously, having a higher K/D matters. Now your Overall K/D doesn't matter as much because it factors your objective based game's K/D into it.

K/D doesn't always mean everything, sometimes dieing is a good thing even if you dont get the kill. In game modes like big team battle say the other team is in possession of both of the power vehicles in the map, if you can kill yourself but take out entirely or take out most of the power vehicle's hp, you may not get the kill or you may get a net of zero but you are preventing more deaths for other people. You may personally have a lower kd for the game but the team benefits overall. Now this example still helps your team's kd you could say but im trying to make the point that someone who has a low or bad kd didnt necessarily not contribute, i kill myself all the time if i think its the best way or fastest way to take a power weapon out of the hands of the enemy (without sacrificing our own power weapons)

Worrying about K/D takes the fun out of MP and generally results in a worse K/D. If you can't have fun irrespective of K/D then you're probably trying to have fun more than actually having it. In BF3 I had an very strong K/D but every match felt like work, in Gears 3 I didn't care about K/D and had a blast and won a lot more matches.

Anyways, it's should be all about wins right? You're on a TEAM. A team that loses but has a player with an amazing record still won't win the Superbowl/World Series/Stanley Cup. Unless you're only playing TMD K/D is secondary to objectives and team support/sacrifice.

People should really care about their W/L ratio more, but you know, it's soooooo much easier blaming others for the loss, the fact that everyone only cares about themselves....and their exalted K/D ratio has nothing to do with it. As long as you do well, who cares right?

I like to win, but I also like to know by how much I have won..

when it comes to deathmatch my KD means a lot to me.
fluian  +   299d ago
I havnt checked my actual kd in a while im most certain it is above 1.0 in reach, i was really good at it til they started "fixing it" now im demoted to just pretty good at it, but halo 1 i was wondering if my skills would transfer from the computer to the xbox because when I first started playing halo it was pc combat evolved... when anniversary came out fot the xbox 360 i was very excited and went out to get it right away because not only did I enjoy multiplayer the most in the first one I was also the best at it out of all of the games. So I played for a bit my first game went decent around 15 kills, an ok game for me, as the day went on I decided to stop because I considered it unfair for me to even play as I had one game where I had 41 kills and 6 deaths, granted I don't believe I could hit that every time, but I felt content to stop there lol

I really don't give a crap about my K/D as much as some people. Sure I'd like to get more kills than deaths in order to win the match, but I'm not gonna focus my attention on my K/D or start focusing on kills during objective gametypes to boost my K/D.
